Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ru-vid.comUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

*I already own the Battle II combo **enjoyable.fishing** recommend and decided to try a Fierce II combo to carry out to the pier. Works great and for the money they are hard to beat.*

Lefty Kreh is to fly casting what Moe Norman is to the golf swing. Brilliant and we all can learn from him. :) Very cool.

I like the comparison because both were geniuses of motion. However, I think Mo's swing was far from classic and was unique to him, while Lefty talks about fundamentals that are non-negotiable.

For those who complained there were no instructions. For a righty. Point your rod at the water (grass). Grab the line with your left hand close to the reel. Not the part coming off of the reel but the line where you'd pull to move the fly. A split second before you bring your rod back move your left hand towards your left pants pocket. Anywhere between two inches and 18 will do, depending on the slack in your casted line. This action removes slack in the line so that when you move your rod tip to backcast, the fly moves. If, for every inch you move your rod tip the fly moves, then no energy is lost removing the slack with the sweep of your rod an all energy goes into the backcast which loads your rod. This is desireable. Before your "haul" is completed start your backcast. When you start to feel a slight tug on the line in your left hand let that hand drift back towards your reel. This is a timing thing and will require experience. Go to early or late and you will ruin the momentum of your backcast . Same will happen if you go to quickly or slowly. Best I can say is that you want to match the backward momentum of the backcast loop of your fly line. The drift immediately follows the haul but not rushed; it is graceful. Do NOT wait until the backcast has unfurled. When your drift is completed hold that position and wait for the line to finish unfurling/straightening behind you. When to begin the forward cast is another timing issue. I can't tell you how others do it but I can feel the rod load, meaning, I've thrown a good backcast loop that's had enough momentum to A) straighten my line behind me, and B) still have enough momentum to load my rod some for the forward cast. I suspect other casters just have a feeling for the timing. Important: Before your extended backcast dips even one inch (optimally, maybe not realistically) begin your second haul to about the middle of your chest. This action will, once again, remove any slack in your backcast. It might not remove it all but any removal is better than none. Immediately after you begin that second haul begin your forward cast. If you've done everything correctly you should have a narrow loop shooting forward with lots of momentum and the strength to bore into the wind. When to let go with your left hand is another timing issue. While that freight train loop is boring forward, early, don't wait until you can see it, let the line go and watch all of the slack at your feet shoot through the guides. If you let go too early your forward cast will not have much momentum. If you release too late your cast will lose momentum and fall in a tangle some tens of yards in front of you. The balance and shape of your fly line will have an impact upon the timing as well. So, Lefty cannot tell you how to do this exactly. The feedback you get from the behavior of your loops, their momentum, and the resultant distance of your cast will tell you all you need to know beyond this explanation. Think economy of movement and graceful motion and you are on your way. I dedicate this to Lefty Kreh. He would have written this himself if he knew just one person was confused.

If you don't understand what Lefty is on about here...then come back in 3 years. Seen this guy live casting consisting over 80 feet. The half-rod teaching tip is something I use when instructing new swoffers.

I went to a fly fishing expo in Connecticut in 2001 and I met him in person while he was doing meet and greets and talking about tying his deceiver fly at a booth. Cool guy and it was an honor. One of the best fly casters ever.

*I wasn't sure what to expect with these rods **allabout.wiki/d6jl** I took one out for a spin on Sunday, and was casting 35-45 feet across open water. The first fish I hooked into had just breached a second or two before, and the rod had the accuracy to drop the fly right where the fish was. I've not yet fished with a really expensive fly rod, but this rod feels nice, it's well balanced, and it casts way better than the starter kits I've used in the past.*

Yes, I believe Lefty has thrown the whole fly line, that's about 90 feet. I heard he used to win bets by doing so. His timing and technique are superior tho, plus, the line he shoots is lying on mown grass so it picks up and shoots easily. If your shooting line is in the water, even at your feet (and not swept down current), the water surface tension will impede your cast length noticeably.

if you are teaching, just teach the right way, no point telling thousand of don;t. is fast and simple. funny is that most fly casting teach you all the don't.
@cachi-7878
@cachi-7878 6 лет назад
Actually, you do increase line speed by further bending the rod; that’s the whole purpose!. Sorry, Lefty.
@K3Flyguy
@K3Flyguy 3 года назад
Rewatch the video, he said," it does increase linespeed a little, but the reason for the haul is to get more bend at the right time to store more energy in the rod". Which then delivers the energy through the rod bend at precisely the perfect time to get maximum line distance. The man has forgotten more about casting than most will ever know. RIP LEFTY
@cachi-7878
@cachi-7878 3 года назад
He was a legend for sure. All I’m saying is, the purpose of bending the rod and storing that energy is to propel the line with higher speed, cut through the wind and shoot farther. That’s exactly what bending the rod does for you.

Another "watch ME how I do it". Then try to do same. Fly-Casting is a whole intellectual reflection. Before double haul one should learn perfect SINGLE traction.

You learn more from this video if you have a good basic understanding of the double haul. Lefty has seen a lot of bad casting over the years and mainly is showing mistakes people make often. I’m guilty of several of these. This video taught me how to correct those.
