It begins, the first game on my request list. Is this foreshadowing for things to come?

I remember playing this on the NES and this was around 2003. I remember being so confused at the time because I had no manual but, the soundtrack was still awesome!

I got legacy of the wizard for my 8th birthday in 1990. I loved it then and love it now. the dead ends reminds one that they are on an adventure where things might not work out. the music and the minimalist graphics lend to the imagination - this was legendary, mystical- like Ridley Scott's film Legend. the game had a learning curve that with time, you could overcome it's most difficult challenges without resorting to a shared password or some cheat code. the end music was amazingly gorgeous. I love this game

The "Quintet" is actually not the same group that left Falcom and developed Actraiser. Just a coincidence that they used the same name.

Regardless of your overall feeling on the gameplay, I'm surprised that you didn't mention the music. Yuzo Koshiro's music is likely the best on the NES. And while it doesn't completely alleviate the tedium of just wandering about unsure of what to do, the different themes for each area also serve as a guide to solving the game - different theme, try a different character. Though the game hints at this even beforehand, as each area has only one character who can easily make progress there.

Oliver Surpless as a jazz pianist, Faxanadu is a solid go-to for solo gigs.

Whoa, KQ5 and LSL1 in the intro? Didn't see that coming. Loved the review though, very fast-paced and manic while still getting all your points across.

I actually took the time to explore everywhere in this game back in the day. I beat it without the use of a map. It wasn't easy though and it was time consuming. I do have an appreciation for this game, not as much as Zelda or Metroid, though. I had actually played through this and beat it several times. I do agree with you on some things. The end boss is not very challenging and the ending sequence is dumb. To contrast that, the credits roll text font was nice and the music was pretty awesome. I also find the variety of items to be interesting. I'm always interested in seeing what special abilities and game mechanics some of these different games have to offer.

Legacy of the Wizard is one of the kings of the where the f do I go games so I can understand the frustration on that aspect. Not only is the world huge you have 5 different characters who use different items to play as making it that much harder to figure out where to go. If I didn't have the game as a kid and learn how to beat it back then I know I wouldn't be able to like it nearly as much as trying to play it fresh today. That being said I think the game still has merits. The graphics are decent and the music is awesome. It's fun having different characters with different abilities to go out and explore a labyrinth with and it's something no other game has quite replicated. The final boss is pretty easy but a couple of the other bosses are tough to beat.

i dig this review, and agree that it could use a little work and maybe an update, but this is one of my favorite games in the Xanadu series. It's hard, but so what, I still love it for that.

Wow! I never knew they had a hand in the Gaia trilogy. It’s no wonder I loved this game. A Metroidvania before “Metroidvania” was even a word.

big boy was wrong here. Nihon Falcom developed this game. I don't think Quintet was around when this game was developed

I would recommend playing a game all the way through and doing research on the game, it seems very unprofessional and annoying when reviewers admit that they didn't play through the game and then call the game bad. Oh and Poochi is a tamed monster so other monsters will not attack him.

great review! this game seems promising, but your points are very valid in pointing out its weak moments. I also will say that your research was better than most, lets players dont even look into games before hand i can see that as a problem, but that is not the case here. Throwing a sub your way :)

I'm sad you didn't like the game. This was one of my favorites growing up. Something about the "I don't give a shit, not holding your hand, you'll do and like it" style that just does it for me especially with dungeon crawlers. The frustration is part of the fun for me. That said, the ending is weaksauce. No faulting you for not liking it just sad you didn't find the joy in it that I found. Still, great review and I think your show looks great! You really deserve a lot more subs! I'll throw one more your way!

your review is entertaining, I'll give you that. But I couldn't disagree with you more about your assessment of this game, to say nothing of how you skipped it's content to get to the end. There are 4 main sub-dungeons branching off from the dragon's room that are tailor made for each of the 4 character (excluding Roas) in the family. You missed all of that. I suppose I could just as easily skip to the last 5 seconds of your video and say I found it a complete waste of time and utterly worthless, by your logic.

I'll admit, this is my weakest review, and you're not the first person to make the points you made. However, I knew of these things when I wrote the review and I didn't want to waste my time. Should I have? Yeah, I should have, but I really didn't want to. I only really reviewed this because a friend gave it to me for review and I wanted to honor that request. If you want more of an idea of my review, I recommend the newer ones as you can see my improvements from here.

@@ZeromasterReviews Well that's fair enough. It wasn't your cup of tea, though I'd have wished you would've given it a fair shake. One thing I'll readily admit is that it is home to the trolliest dead-ends in early gaming history, located in Pochi's dungeon area (lower right); it goes on for about 3 full rooms past the part were you would normally pick up the crown. Aside from that it's a solid title. The music alone is worthy of praise for an NES era title. I'll check out some of your more recent content.

+Cian X I understand where your coming from. While I try to complete the games I review, it's not always necessary and this isn't the first time I haven't. Even the AVGN admits that completing a game for a review is not required, it helps, but if you can get the point across, then that's what matters. Not even professional reviewers complete every game they review. If they did, they'd never meet their strict deadlines. Now I'll admit, I was pretty harsh on this game. I am overacting a little in an attempt to boost up the humor. I was experimenting with adding a more jokey feel to my reviews at the time. However, this game never really made a good impression on me, and like I said in the review, had I played through the entire game to get that as an ending boss battle, I probably would have been more harsh on it. Of course these reviews as all reviews are, is a biased perspective. I'm not saying anyone should agree with me, I'm just trying to make an internet video as entertaining as I can while giving my personal thoughts. If your looking for reviews I've done where I have completed the games, Megaman 7 I have 100% completed and Ultimate Fighter I saw to the end as well. Here's the playlist to my other reviews if you wanna get another opinion on how I do things: ru-vid.com/group/PL34B4190C6334D3E6

Keep in mind there are actually 5 boss battles, and a ton of puzzles. Reality this game is all about the journey. Sure, the final boss isn't that hard, but I certainly enjoyed it as a kid. There weren't exactly a ton of games of this caliber back then for NES. Really just Zelda and Metroid I think. There was more on the PC - they were probably around Ultima 6 by then.

First time viewer...I remember liking this game a fair amount in my younger days. Usually played the dog...usually got lost...although once my NES made it a routine to crap out after 20 minutes of gameplay, I was pretty happy to play any of my games. Maybe that had something to do with it. Not my favorite game, but fair to say I liked it a good deal more than you seemed to. And that's...okay. :)

I think you should put the name of the songs in the credits or in the description. Give the composers credit.

JC I did give them credit, that what the credits are for
@browse79
@browse79 9 лет назад
ZeromasterReviews All I saw was the website not the name of the composers or name of the song. That's like giving Nintendo credit for a zelda song that Koji Kondo compose. Or giving youtube the credit for the video you wrote, produce and directed. Not cool. Thanks for replying btw
@ZeromasterReviews
@ZeromasterReviews 9 лет назад
JC I still gave credit where credit is do, a lot of these older games didn't spell out who did exactly what, a game could have 5 programmers but not distinguish who debugged level 4 or who wrote the raw code for level 6. I get what your saying but I like to keep my videos as short as possible and putting movie-style credits at the end of each video is time consuming and adds to the video length. Besides in this day and age, a quick google search can find most of it.

Youre too young to appreciate the game. I remember when it came out in the 80s for the nes and I would play it all the time at the nintendo center in the mall.

Age has nothing to do with it actually. I've played plenty of games released before my time that were fantastic (i actually still have the intellivision i had as a kid as well as started collecting for my 2600 and have enjoyed a lot of those games). I also don't have nostalgia for the game so i judged it based on it's merits and in my opinion, it simply isn't good.

Why the hell bashing the game so hard. Honestly I take your review as garbage. All you did was use a password then complain. I had this as a kid myself. No I never beat it. But I had a blast trying to figure it out. Dead ends and all. Its an exploration game. Not at all linear. If you did some research. You would have learned that the games music in areas gave you an idea of what character to play there. I found this as an honest crap review. Just played it and then made the review. No real research was done. No real attempt to enjoy the game either. Just a whiney I didn't like this game review because it was too hard for you.
