I absolutely agree about the shelf presence of this guys. He just looks heroic. I hope we eventually get some Animated Decepticons to go along with him and the rest of his crew.
They've done a very good job mixing the Animated and CHUG aesthetics. The look of this figure is unmistakably that of Animated Prime, even if he's on the blockier side. There's no mistaking this for any other take on the character. Legacy's come a long way with stuff like that since Prime Arcee and Bulkhead. Unlike with Bulkhead, I'm not going "This is a good Optimus, but it shouldn't have been sold as Animated Optimus." This is a genuinely nice take on Animated Prime. Funny enough Legacy Bulkhead genuinely works better as Animated Bulkhead than he does as Prime Bulkhead. A customizer on r/Transformers did an amazing job of converting it into an (admittedly rather ripped-looking) take on Animated Bulkhead.
I'm waiting for the retool for bulkhead. I saw the custom, its so good and it looks like he prototyped his custom with paper and tape so a retool for a proper animated bulkhead is too easy for hasbro not to do. Especially since they've remade that figure like 3 times already, im waiting for the inevitable 4th that has a better chest and shoulders and head paint. But it really just comes down to paint. I mean if they want to make the shield look like it isn't just made of fabric too, that would be awesome too. Hell, I might even just grab the prime version of bulkhead if there's an upgrade kit that releases with a new riot shield and alternate chest. Idk there's just too much different with bulkhead as is for me to jump at it yet, but I definitely agree that it works as a legacy animated bulkhead better than a prime version any day
I just really hope they aren't counting that original Legacy Bulkhead as the "Animated" version, because it looks more like a hypothetical G1 version of Bulkhead.
My partner and I are watching rn and she loves the "sailor moon transformation sequences". I told her everybody does, and supplied power rangers as supportive evidence in addition to TFA and TF in general. But everybody loves a good transformation sequence 💚
I don't see it as an update, but as another interpretation yes and it complies with what a current figure should, no, it is not going to replace the original version, but it is a good alternative.
Honestly, without the striking stylization of Animated, all the smooth lines and stuff, the figure loses a lot (not all) of what made Animated Prime's design work. that lower torso in particular is a huge eyesore
I'm so glad they skipped the facemask because Animated Optimus is the only version who just looks more "right" without it. I can't wait to get this guy, I'm so glad Best TF Cartoon is finally getting more love.
@@Andyjoe522 I'd be okay with that, but regular Animated Optimus just looks weird to me with the mask so I'm glad the general release doesn't have it. I wish he had the pouty lips, though.
My favorite incarnation of Optimus Prime, especially the phenomenal voice performance of David Kaye. I like him better than the G1 version. Did you know that the handle of the axe is also bloosh compatible? I also noticed how your original Animated Optimus Prime had the rare grey Autobot insignia.
One of my favorite versions of Optimus, I am so glad he and Bumblebee were among those picked for Transformers Animated representation. And where there is Optimus, Megatron is sure to follow! I can't wait!
I wouldn't be able to pick a favorite trailer, I hope 3rd part makes all the versions. His emergency lights come off so he can recreate the look of one episode when he had the classic trailor. Idk this figure is great
This probably has one of the cleanest robot mode of any of the most recent figures. The engineer did a great job tucking everything in. Only thing I'm iffy on is the axe handle. When it's retracted on mine it never stays still and I have to extend it if I want him to hold it in a certain position.
I'd love a Ratchet and a retool of Legacy Bulkhead to look more like his Animated counterpart. A customizer on r/Transformers proved the latter to be a very promising idea.
Same. I got prowl and bee, bulkhead has me tempted even tho he's the prime version. I'm waiting for a retool to be the animated version, cuz he kinda works better as an animated bulkhead than a prime version
I am almost done with a simple/small armor set for this figure. hopefully people will like it when I am done. if it does well I have it in mind to do a large armor set to make him look like a full firetruck in truck mode
I picked this guy up the other day and it brought me back to my childhood. I’ve been watching you for about 15 years now I was kid when I first started watching you and this kinda helps bring everything full circle
I just got this figure at a Walmart yesterday, and this Optimus Prime looks fantastic! As a fan of TFA, this modern update to this version of Optimus Prime is one of the best figures from the Legacy toy line.
I'm personally waiting for an Animated Soundwave with his Laserbeak guitar. I want my bots to be able to bring down the house with the power of rock. LOL
I can definitely understand why some folks are disappointed at these toys for not going more fully with the Animated (or Prime) designs. Personally I like them a lot, and I justify it as these designs not "replacing" the original, but being new forms that Optimus or Bumblebee or Arcee take when going on a universe-hopping adventure to say, the G1 continuity. I would love to see a comic or even just a digital novel with that concept!
I think that's a great way to view Legacy's aesthetic for Animated and Prime. If I wanted a 1:1 of the original figures, I would have tried harder to buy the Animated and Prime when they were releasing. Lol
I love Animated Prime, But I love more of his old toy and legacy one, the legacy reminds me of Minecraft Transformers and animated Optimus prime from McDonald’s, I had this figure once
Finally. It showed up at my local shop. I did not hesitated and regretted buying this. Optimus prime animated version has been a part of my childhood memories and the reason I love Transformers franchise. Waiting for megatron animated version.
I'm not sure what it is, but there is something I REEEEEEALLY like about this mold. Not sure about the older one, the axe that comes with the older one in particular is...questionable, I think. This one looks like a fairly unique transformation and I appreciate that as well. Might pick it up at some point, cool review man. :o)
it's actually reused engineering, the torso is almost 1-1 the delux animated prime toy transformation, the only difference is the wheels didn't fold down on the original delux
Yes! Yes! Yes! It has been far too long since.... We RISE!! This Optimus looks great, and I can't wait to add him to my collection. Animated was an all-time great series.
Alright, genuinely, this is the second best Prime figure we've gotten since WFC. It's right up there with Armada Prime in Legacy. Just an absolutely solid, almost flawless figure. There is literally nothing I dislike about it.
I've had some luck finding legacy united figures recently! I got all the core class and Tigerhawk now, hoping to find the deluxes and voyagers soon. I pray Animated Prime isnt rare 😭🙏
I feel like they set the front wheels too far back myself (the ones you can see anyways) personally I would have liked the third front wheel to be uncovered by the bumper and have it looked like a real 18 wheeled fire truck, but i can kinda let it slide because hey, future fire truck and all that... it just makes the proportions a bit off. but it does match the original's bumper a bit more.
They definitely put a lot of effort into this voyager class David Kaye. Wonder if they’ll do a leader class variation with the battle mask and the wing set
I was going to avoid picking up Animated Prime, just so I didn't have a 2nd Prime in my budding collection, but this figure looks too good not to get. Plus Animated Prime just holds a special place in my heart.
Man, looks like Robot Kingdom is a little ahead of the curve! I just got an email from BBTS saying that my preorder will be in soon, but it hasn't even shipped yet. Is Robot Kingdom generally a good company to work with?
Man, this is a deluxe. I swear all the class sizes nowadays have shrunk down a class. What's a voyager now would've been considered a deluxe back in the good days. 6:25 case in point. THAT'S a voyager.
Perhaps we could get a trailer or armor pack… i remember seeing a pic on the net about Prime’s alt mode having an extended section to make it look like a full fire truck similar to Cybertron Prime
Who knows. Something like that may be in the cards down the road. I wouldn't be surprised if they put out a leader class figure later that is slightly reworked to incorperate that. Hence the trailer hook port. Although I wouldn't bee shocked to see a 3rd party company do that for them either. In the mean time we can transform and buff out with this beefy Prime.
In the show he often had a full fire engine he hauled around. Allegedly if season 4 had happened we would have finally gotten a toy with that fire engine trailer transforming into Power Master armor for him.
@@Andyjoe522 Huh, I didn't know that. Grant it I barely caught any of the series, or get more than a few of the figures.. I'm still kicking myself for never picking up the animated safeguard back then. That would be an amazing updated figure If they made it with current engineering. I just wonder if both halves would be deluxes that would combine into a voyager, or would they upscale them since they're 2 jet robots that become 1 larger robot.
Honestly don’t get the hate for this guy. He’s just Animated Prime, I don’t see much different between the heavily exaggerated animation model and this. I’d say HasTak did a good job with him
It could use a bit more paint in some spots, but they genuinely did a great job mixing the Animated and CHUG looks with the Animated toys so far, with this guy and Bee being even better than Prowl who I already liked. They've certainly been taking the feedback they've gotten since Prime Arcee and Bulkhead to heart.
my only nitpick of it is the hidden third wheels by the bumper up front I know he only had two sets in the show but the way they did the second set that far back throws the proportions off for me... i would have liked the front ones to be uncovered but i understand why they did it to keep it somewhat show accurate.
now theirs two animated series in a legacy line Transformers Legacy Armada Optimus Prime now this one from the 2007 animated series i like Armada Prime and 2007 animated series as a Legacy United line Optimus Prime i like it question for you which Legacy line of both Primes do you like more 2007 Legacy United Prime or Legacy Armada Prime?
For the bloosh of animated prime OK REINHARDT (Ps if you dont jnow who reinhardt is he is a character from a video game known as overwatch and the character has a jet piwered hammer that makes his attack for more damgerous)
Between this, the upcoming SS86 commander, and any other surprise Optimus toys, we might be in for another year where half of everyone's top 10 Transformers of the year are Optimus Primes. Especially if we get some good Optimus and/or Orion Pax toys for Transformers One.
Such a great figure. Hmmm, about those feet having the ports…. *Gasp* If DNA Designs or another third party company makes an upgrade kit based off of the Project: Powermaster concept for Season Four that NEVER became a thing, OH MY GOD, I’d be so down to get both this figure and the upgrade kit!
Once the Titans Return it'll be our Legacy of the Power of the Primes to Siege the Earthrise Kingdom & win the Combiner Wars with the Evolution of the United Autobots!
Maybe a bit more colour on the grey bits and the legs. Just look a bit too plain on these parts. The holes at the leg maybe something for motormaster maybe....
