Leonard you are a Icon in aviation. You are a true inspiration to me. I have been flying for 51 years and am new to the ultralight world. I bought your plans, built the fuselage and am just about ready to covert the wings. After seeing this video I may want to build a 2nd one. Thank you for continuing your work in aircraft design. God Bless you and your family.
The Legal Eagle is the most fun aircraft I have flown. It is straight forward to build and I imagine the folding wings will be equally easy once the design and prototype is done. Thanks for the ongoing support and development of this great aircraft. Excellent vlog. Thanks Leonard.
Building the Legal Eagle is a great experience that we are thoroughly enjoying. It is simple and at the same time requires a lot of imagination and experimentation to achieve the satisfactory result. Soon we will have our Eagle certified and flying. Obviously we will follow the steps and make its wings foldable to reduce space in the hangar. Thank you Leonard, you are an example of creativity and dedication. Our thanks and appreciation from Argentina.
I was going to buy myself a full set of plans for Christmas. Having learned that you are working on folding wings, I will wait until you get the plans released for them. Great airplane. Thanks for all that you do.
Hi Leonard, thanks for working on this design update. Folding wings has been a sticking point for me. I think the LEXL is the coolest UL out there and I would love to build one. I was thinking of either adapting the kitfox method or the Airbike method to the LEXL, but if you and John are going to do it, that’s even better!
You designed a great little airplane, sir. Glad you are doing this because folding wings are a must for people who can't afford a hangar or don't live out on a farm. I do live in a little farmhouse, but it's mostly hills around us, so I will still need to build an aircraft that will fit in a trailer. As I said, you designed a great little airplane, however I don't know how to weld so I just ordered a set of plans for the Affordaplane that I can bolt together. They didn't design that with folding wings either, so I'm hoping I can use your method with the A-plane wings. I also like the VW engine because it's a four-stroke. Something else to consider with my A-plane. Pretty sure you designed it the way you did to save weight, but if you ever decide to design a bolt-together fuselage version with folding wings, I think the design would be perfect for most homebuilders like me. Thanks again for this video.
This Is great news. Folding wings will be just enough to push me over the edge of building one of these. I’ve been looking at the LE for 20 years off and on. I just didn’t have anywhere to keep it. Thanks for improving on a great design. I’m a little guy, I’m hoping the folding wings will be designed for the standard LE.
Looking forward to this - not really interested in the LE but I love seeing innovation and I am keeping eye on folding wing UL's. Best wishes to you and yours
Hi Mr Milholland, thank you for your designs and your life-long devotion to aviation! I have been interested in LEs for quite some time and will decide on the model to hopefully get the ball rolling on building one for the new year. I was curious if the folding design is for modifying the XL or the standard? Or will this be a new design all to together? Thanks again! Good luck with the design, happy holidays, and a happy new year!!!
Great job on the video. I’m clearing a few other projects and thinking hard on building LE. The folding wings is an exciting prospect. Hopefully Airventure will be able to happen in 2021 and We’ll get to see the design demo’d. I have a question on the Better Half.VW engine. Are most builders scrounging/Salvaging an old VW engine to start with as a platform and purchasing a kit to build it out? Or are they going to an engine builder for everything. I’m a tightwad! I just acquired and old 73 engine out of a super beetle. It’s rough. Am I ok to start there?
Hi Leonard I bought the plane plans a few years ago and haven't started the project yet life is busy but would I be able to buy the upgrade for the folding wings and tail? For my Legal Eagle?
I would be far more inclined to build a Legal Eagle if it had folding wings, that folded quickly and easily so I can fit it in my hangar with my other plane.
