Paul Tuchmann, a former federal prosecutor and current partner at Wiggin and Dana, and crypto-focused attorney Zack Shapiro, managing partner at Rains Law Firm, provide legal insight into Sam Bankman-Fried's 25-year prison sentence.
25 years seems appropriate. Fraud at this scale can certainly cause real consequences similar to murder. Just consider the knock on effects of defaulting on loans, rent, medical bills, even leading people to suicide. Certainly not a victimless crime.
25 years was exactly what seemed reasonable to me. How does what he did compare to what Elizabeth Holmes did? They seem ethically similar to me. She only got 11 years. I suspect that most people aren't up for putting a young woman with children in prison for 25 years and Holmes got the benefit of that. As an aside I'm 74. I probably won't be around to see SBF get out of jail, but my dad lived to 105 so I have some hope I'll make it.
He should've been sentenced to at least 120 years in prison; the pain and damage and suffering he and his group of scamming criminals did to millions of innocent people around the world, There is no Justice in United States of America, Just because he is [ member of the Chosen one ] doesn't mean he is above the law [ or maybe, only in United States of America, [Chosen one] get free pass. JUSTICE NOT SERVED.
He lost 16 $ Billion! How is it possible, $16 Billion is not a needle to be lost! That money finished somewhere. How come that nobody ask that simple question! Where is 16 Billion Dollars?
His money was invested in his own cryptocurrency pumping up the value of that cryptocurrency in a fake way when everybody figured out what he was doing was a fraud his cryptocurrency which was worth billions and billions and billions of dollars became worthless
This is BS. He at minimum should have been given a 100-year sentence. I just read today that a man in Ocala, Fl (Dusty Ritrovato, 40) was given a 4-year sentence for stealing a dishwasher from a construction site. How much money was slipped into the judge's pocket?
Meh. SBF will probably have his sentence reduced to 20 years on appeal and come out for being such a good boy in 13 after chilling in one of them light federal prison camps like that Elizabeth Holmes chick.
You know nothing about Federal sentencing laws and are simpply making up stuff that sounds plausible to you, but not to anybody who knows anything, as you blow along. You need to grow up before you hurt yourself or others with your stupidity.
the 'legal experts' opinion about remorse affecting the sentence is plain stupid. The crime is the crime regardless of the APPEARANCE of remorse. It is not a significant factor. The legal expert is a joke!
probably... They said 7.x Billion was missing... then they said they found most of it... then it was 8 Billion rounded up which was normal.... then some news outlets are reporting 9billion and 10billion... I just watched Bloomberg and now they're saying 11 Billion... It all seems fake to have a story for a need for crypto regulation etc and to scare people to invest into crypto because a lot of people don't hear anything besides the words Crypto and SBF 25 years LOL but Nepotism would definitely be important if they wanted to fake this whole story... even his EX girlfriends dad worked with Gary G... Defiantly seems SUS... lol
In similar case with Full Tilt Poker in 2011 nobody got any jail time. It was a systematic theft of depositors money. "Full Tilt Poker owed players around the world $390 million, including $150 million in the U.S., but had only $60 million in its bank accounts."
Putting rich people in prison is robbing society of unlimited talent which we need desperately. Prison is for working class and poor people, not these extraordinary individuals. The do too much good to be locked away.
@@MsCardio1 The fraud, money laundering, misappropriation of funds, perjury and such are going to mean far more than 1-2 years. But once the bankruptcy trustee starts paying out the depositor and investor money the total years should come way down from 25 years.
Yes he will only really do 6-8 years with good behavior…some of victims will take a life time to make the money they lost ..sad white collar crime does pay
This is a huge sentence by U.K. standards, here he would get max 10 years (typically 4-5 years) and out after 1/2 😬 If he serves his full sentence he loses the best years of his life!
And of course, CNBC crypto desk says justice has been served, that won't happen again, so start buying crypto again, suckers! Er, I mean, Future Millionaires
At least three of FTX's customers committed suicide due to Sam's actions. Too bad Sam can't be convicted of manslaughter. He ruined many lives and does not seem to care. He is likely to spend 20 years in prison and be out by the age of 52. I cannot imagine anyone wanting to give him a job so he is likely to pursue fraud again as it's a career he knows well.

Thanks for continuing updates I'd rather trade the stock market as it's more profitable. I make an average of $34,500 per week even though I barely trade myself.
YES!!! That's exactly her name (Charlotte Goldyn Allan) so many people have recommended highly about her and am just starting with her 😊 from Brisbane Australia🇦🇺
agreed. this kid was barely 30 and its a nonviolent crime. also, had no prior record... Theres people that shoot people with a long history of violence and court, and they dont even get 25 years lol
UC Davis has meals for every country in the eastern countrys so he is covered for health recovery today military rehab and housing of the uited states government no we only service men
this man dad once coming to union pacific srevice to invest in cripto bit but these coin connected to silver cercitificate and he will need a devirce and when even move to mephis tenn. to live out a bad family matter of the real budjet of corrperate office asap
This guy steals money and goes to jail… simple. Kyle Rittenhouse violates gun laws and causes people to die and get hurt with no accountability for his wrongdoing. Money seems to be more important than a human life
