2:13 just what I needed to hear. A man who's tamed the piano to humiliating levels being fought back by the beast. As a student, this takes a massive burden off of me.

Same! And later he says : and of course it should be more secco. As in: he tries, but the piano won't let him achieve that.

If I were a piano, I'd be honored to be played by MAH, but also a bit intimidated!
@EmdrGreg

Why intimidated? If you're in tune, all you have to do is let go and let Marc. Nice imagery. Thanks.

But why does he play on this piano? He must have a better one at home, one would believe. The description talks about 4 x 30 min episodes - this is just 7m 21s.

What a gift, I just happen to be studying both of these preludes and to have such a genius informing us as to the imagery of these masterworks is wonderful. Thank you so much for posting this!

cuando escuchar a alguien hablar de música resulta tan interesante como escucharlo tocar, ahí está la verdadera maestría. Marc-Andre Hamelin es el pianista mas extraordinario de la actualidad, y de los últimos 60 años al menos.

Have always thought for a long time now after watching him play Lizts Sospiro that Marc has got to be the worlds greatest piano virtuoso! It’s all so completely unforced and exquisite,with him the piano speaks conveying exactly what the composer and he want it to! I know nothing about the technicalities of piano playing but I have an ear for music and I can say the piano sounds so very different when he’s playing so effortless, yet he interprets the piece in his own unique way. After listening to Un Sospiro I can’t listen to anyone else playing it,it is so perfect in every way! Would have loved to listen to him playing Beethoven’s 5th or the Emperor with the Vienna Philharmonic, but as far as I’ve seen he doesn’t play with orchestras.Also he doesn’t want to commercialise his art. He plays for the sheer love of music exploring, thinking and interpreting in his own unique way. The hallmark of a true genius caught up in his own wonderful world , not really playing to the gallery but for himself and his own stratospherically high standards, that is what satisfies him .

People who are listening to this, don't be influenced by this rubbish. There are many ways to play a piano piece and individuality and difference are encouraged. MAH's approach is actually extremely unmusical
