Nas is a very close friend of mine and we've worked together on animation shows in Toronto and he worked on this for a LONG time. Truly support him as he's honestly an incredibly talented artist who put in a TON of time into this project. Toronto is full of crazy talented artists and it's been so gratifying seeing Nas get his due :)
Do you have any tips for someone learning to draw/animate at the same time? How long have you been animating for? DId you go to school for it or self taught?
This is easily one of the best dragon ball fan films out there. I really hope they continue the story that they’ve set out here if they are making a second instalment
@@a3-radio While not necessarily a fan film, one that immediately comes to mind is Dragonball Deliverance in case if you have not seen it yet. Has three episodes out as of now
Eric's enthusiasm is so infectious, I love seeing him so jazzed up about stuff! I love this animation dearly as well, it really got me excited about these characters in a way I hadn't been since high school. Really hoping the creators make more installments in this universe.
The whole "Punching Vegeta out of SSJ" stuff made me think of D&D Half Orcs. If they drop below 0 HP, their Racial Feature brings them back up to 1 HP (once a day). Broli is hammering Vegeta so hard, he basically drops to 0 but his sheer will to fight keeps him going.
I really like that Vegeta line: "all my life I've been training for this one moment". The way the voice actors voice goes low and the delivery of that line, to me it sounded a lot like Sam Witwer's Darth Maul voice and that was so dope to me
@@itsbravo2916 because based on the fact that Goku is still on Earth his father must have still sent him there just before frieza's invasion and must have died fighting in the war and perhaps he was the first one to achieve Super Saiyan and Inspire his people ultimately allowing his people to succeed. It also might mean that his mother is still alive creating a whole new series of possibilities
@@Cwronaga216 with how old the statue of the king beating frieza is due to the moss and how weathered it looks. I am thinking they got super saiyan generations ago
@@FlyingwithFire I believe the date said 35 after Frieza. That's plenty of time for the Statue to look like that but they probably changed a lot about the timeline besides just the Saiyans winning because that wouldn't line up with Goku's time on Earth. Cuz the only reason Goku would be on earth if he was still sent away before the battle and his father would still have to die somehow for him to have not been found up into this point. Also he wouldn't have been that important to the High Council for retrieval if he wasn't the son of someone very important like a hero. But the timeline is a little weird as far as the time frames go so it's just speculation
Highly doubt but with this and "WAP" I hope they watch more internet videos, again they haven't really seen that many asides from trailers. I think the last one was dbza. Like I would love for them especially Calvin, Aaron, and Eric will watch "Cell in HFLL" by tfs its literally so good and so freaking funny
I hope so too. Seeing them watch a passion project like this makes me hyped for the chance they might react to Astartes. I knew nothing about Warhammer when I clicked on that first video, and walked away from it knowing Warhammer has one of the single greatest fan animations/polished gems of visual storytelling ever crafted by a single person.
If we're talking internet videos, I would love it if they delved into horror stuff. ARGs and the such are huge right now, and you know Blind Wave would make it interesting.
Eric talking about the color, the titles, and the animation makes me think back to how much they love Gurren Lagann, and also about Kill La Kill which I always vote for on the poll. Love that style so much
This fan project is the best fan made thing I’ve seen in years, maybe ever honestly, some serious talent went in to this, and the idea of punching the Super Saiyan out of someone for a brief moment is an amazing idea that I wish was in the main series! I’m not a fan of Super but stuff like this really brings back my love for Dragon Ball.
i know eric isn't unfamiliar with the idea of solo reactions, but I absolutely LOVE seeing him react to the Lego Monke Kid show. Beautilful animation, absolute respect for the monkey king anthology, and riddled with such a star-studded cast such as Sean Schemmel, Jack De Sena, Steve Blum, Patrick Seitz, Johnny Yong Bosch, and numerous others.
Finally! Really glad the crew got to see the fan film and its a damn shame that the footage of the deep-dive got lost, but I appreciate your commitment to go back through it for us, Eric.
Woah! When I saw this video come up in my subscriptions list I punched my thigh so hard that it is bruised now! I knew you guys would come around and react to this sooner or later!
One thing I like about you guys is that you also support the people who make the stuff you guys react to. Haven't seen anyone else ask their own viewers to go support other creators. I'd say this makes you guys a cut above 99% reaction channels
I never knew much about Dragonball and never watched much except my friends play xenoverse 2. But i found this fan film from a video MoistCritikal made talking about it. And even knowing nothing about Dragonball i thought this fan film was so dope that it fueled my interest in Dragonball and for the months since this has been out ive been binge watching the series, finished OG Dragonball and im currently in the Cell saga of Z, just started the Cell games, loving every minute of it.
One of my favorite scenes in this is when Vegeta flies in to deliver an early volley of crunchy body shots to Broly. Typically Dragon Ball fights kinda gloss over "normal" punch and kick combos (often adapted onscreen as a few looping frames of smear lines and matching blows/parries) but in that particular sequence we get to see Vegeta unload a brief but very deliberate combo of individual punches, each one selling its own impact with the heavy sound effects and animated followthrough. *chef's kiss* I've rewatched this short probably about 30 times, and I still get goosebumps whenever Vegeta issues the challenge: "Today a god falls. Bones to dust! Ashes to the wind!" as Limit Break kicks in…! There's just so much densely packed spectacle here to appreciate over and over!
This is better then most anime fight scenes I've watched recently, good god the flow, the impact, so much good in this, can't wait to see more from this studio.
I'm genuinely surprised you guys haven't seen this yet. Glad you guys did. This was a huge surprise at how good this was. Especially as someone like me who's not a Dragonball fan. Definitely familiar with it but never got into it.
Finally! I genuinely gave up and thought you guys will not be reacting to this even though Rick/ Eric teased you would a months ago. Thank you for this! I only follow Blindwave for these type of in depth reactions. Stay safe!
I like how Goku’s transformation reflected his roots and ties to what inspired the character in the first place, which was Sun Wukong. It taps into the raw and primal power of his saiyan ape side like SSJ4, but it keeps the appeal and hype of the first time he ever went super saiyan, making a golden monkey-like transformation. It really ties everything together nicely. It would be so neat if Vegeta trained him to use his Ki to form a weapon like how he created a Ki sword against Broly. It would be awesome if Goku’s choice of Ki weapon is a staff, as it would give a nod to the monkey king/Sun Wukong. It would be so perfect!
The redhead in the Bulma cloak shot is David Liu's OC called Space Maria he has great original and fan artwork in that 80s 90s anime style that is amazing!
24:39 the elder Vegeta is King Vegeta III and Prince Vegeta (the new king) is Vegeta IV. The medallion is homage as that was the symbol of the current ruler of Planet Vegeta in the original series
Thank you guys for giving this it's due! This is in my opinion the best Fan Film for Dragonball i have ever seen. Second would be the what If Sprite Animations from Hyourinjutsu, but that is a completely different style. In terms of lore, Animation, Hommages, respect to the past and present - this is very top Tier and hard to beat. If we ever get a second Part, i would pay actual money for that.
Naseer Pasha said in an interview that Vegeta was from another timeline and had learned the kamehameha from Goku in that time. This is why he seemed to know Goku already, but not the other way around. edit: you are correct that the pink beam is a galick gun from Vegeta, but Naseer said that he couldn't work it in there properly
I've seen this animation countless times, I get just as hyped everytime. Vegeta making a ki sword still blows my mind. The whole video blows my mind in the best way possible.
I love seeing Vegeta getting knocked out of Super Saiyan and then through sheer force of will going back in. Also I would love to know what this universes version of Bardock and Gine are like Edit: You know I would love to see Aaron and Calvin's reaction to Dragon Ball Super Broly. Broly in the Super movie is such a different character to the one from the original or abridged version
Love that fans are so passionate as to make something so great like this this was better than the last DBZ movie to me. And the voice actors did a great job like the guy doing Goku did a good job gave off goku’s mannerisms
I share Erics excitement of something new and refreshing from Dragon Ball. I would love for this team to be able to work on Dragon Ball in an official capacity and help evolve the series, or at the very least spark some change in Dragon Ball.
I agree with Erik, it also really took me out that Yamcha is in the crowd twice, once next to Krillen in his original desert bandit outfit, then again next to Bulma once Vegeta appears and Bulma catches his cape, although he's wearing his Orange Turtle Hermit Gi.
I love the idea of the Super Saiyan form dropping and getting re-fueled with rage. I think this was made before it was teased in the manga, but it reminds me of the idea of Ultra Ego. Taking hits might give you a pause for a second, but then they'll piss you off.
One thing I will say is that Broly’s original backstory is a bit deeper then people think. Just to keep it short, Broly most likely suffers from PTSD on top of being more blood-thirsty than the average Saiyan. Instead of getting the help he needed, his father, Paragus, sought to control and use Broly as a secret weapon. So it’s not JUST Goku crying next to Broly, even though that is somewhat of a factor to it. Edit: 29:47 really quick edit, but this frame right here is also showcasing how strong Chi-Chi is as well. In this iteration, Chi-Chi is actually able to stop a punch from Broly until he laces his fist with Ki. Just shows how strong she actually could be
"I love those titles", oh, looking forward to Kill La Kill even more then. It's nice to see you starting to react to other stuff than shows and movies and trailers again.
Hey Eric, firstly I really hope you put out a reaction to the DBS: Superhero movie when it comes out on digital; not sure if you could get Rick to watch with you, but regardless it would be a good time. Regarding the animation, I know you are a purist when it comes to hand-drawn vs CG animation, but please try to put your bias aside for the movie. You can tell that this was an experimental stylistic choice not to be cheap, but bring something new, just like DBS: Broly's Shintani style. I really doubt the return of the anime or even future movies will reflect this style, but I think the movie turned out wonderfully and most avid fans of Dragon Ball seem to be on board even the purists. You can feel the love these creators put into the movie, in the writing, the fights and choreography, the story, the humor, the music and especially the English Dubbing. The movie feels classic Toryiama, because these artists did their best, and the CG is leagues better than the CG fight portions of the last 3 movies. Anywho, I just hope you allow yourself you remove your biases and enjoy the product for what it is, I'm sure you will have a blast! Love all of y'all's content, Liam
Man. The Legendary Super Saiyan is such a good movie. Broly, the heavy metal soundtrack, Vic's screams. I recently bought a 4 movie collection. Broly, Cooler 2, Bojack, and Super 13. So good Edit: i love faulconer's (or at least the music attributed to him) music but mark menza's ssj theme is just so good. I have it on repeat sometimes
I you guys are willing to do another fan film ( or series since it’s 3 episodes) dragon ball deliverance, it’s FANTASTIC. Some of the coolest animations you’ll ever see
Lots of people ask "How did Vegeta become a super saiyan at this point in time?" To which the answer is quite clear: "I WANNA BE A SUPER SAIYAN! I WANNA! I WANNA! I WANNA!"
vegeta using the sword is a refference to vegito's spirit sword attack that he used on buuhan indicating he's the one who vegito got the technique from so cool
34:18 Next to the girls is Space Maria, a original character by David Liu (Dsloogie) who is a pretty populair guy among indie animators who love to emulate retro 80-90's anime.
Off topic but Eric's Saiyan talk made me really curious to know what he'd think of Klingons ... if we ever get over that Star Wars only internets fandom someday
I get the feeling Star Trek (or at least, Paramount) is pretty litigious about their stuff getting used for reactions from the smaller channels I've seen. Blind Wave watches Star Trek would be one heck of a series, though.
from a podcast interview, vegetas planet is set in the future in a world where the saiyans defeated frieza and goku is dead. Broly goes back in time to beat goku when hes weak since he was never able to beat him and vegeta follows him back in time to stop him and retrieve goku. this is also why vegeta knows the kamehameha. ALso said the saiyan power is more like a light they have to control and if they cant it will burn them from the inside out.
In the scene showing Bulma catching vegeta's cloak a character looking very familiar in yellow with a white cape is on the far right. It's a fun nod to him.
I frickin love how they honor the original Chinese myth of Sun Wukong....rooting the mythology of Dragon ball and subsequently Dragon ball Z in the real world, in our world of myth and legend....they really are a part of our mythical history.
I adore this idea of a _primal light_ that Saiyans can manifest in their own unique ways. Vegeta's is refined and precise, but can be knocked out of him. Broly's is very powerful, but has driven him mad over time. Goku's is driven by pure instinct and is almost feral. This would be way more interesting in context than characters evolving almost the exact same way over time.
