I got to play a meatball. I had just began to get into pedals, and the lead guitarist in the church I lead worship in pulled it from the depths of his collection. I was blown away by how crazy it was, and how it allowed me (an acoustic guy) to tweak all kinds of ways. I never looked back!

Fantastic Josh! Well, I got to get MY first Lovetone experience at GuitCon in 2017 and it was the Meatball. I had ZERO preconceived notion of what it did or sounded like and just jumped in, head first, with cameras rolling. It was so much fun! Incredibly tweakable. Now if only I made enough money to justify the used prices I see 🤔 Either way, Lovetone WAS game-changing. It’s too bad they haven’t had a Renaissance because I’m sure players would love to hear more of what they could have created but I suppose we have guys like Chase Bliss and Meris and others I can’t think of pushing those boundaries for us.

My current favorite band is Rival Sons. Their 7th release will hit late Jan. They started out as there take on a 60s british rock band. think kinks, yardbirds, stones, early zeppelin. They have now evolved into something unique with Scott Holiday (guitar) coming up with some interesting tones. An absolutely phenomenal live act, you really have to see them!

The rarest LoveTone pedal is the Flange With No Name, or the Question Mark (QM) Flange. I own one. I love it. It stays in the studio. It must be the first flanger to offer different wave form for flanging. It also has extreme tweakability. Plus, the tremolo is completely independent from the flanger. It comes with an solar sensor that plug in on the top of the pedal that adjusts the manual control using light. You can just use your foot to play around with it. I love my LoveTone pedal.

My Ring Stinger also has what they referred to as a Light Jack - It is awesome, but way too unpredictable, especially under the presence of stage lighting (as I discovered to my embarassment and amusement). Back in the 90s, here in Australia if you wanted to buy a pedal, you went to a music shop where you could choose from a small selection of Boss, DOD and Danelectro. The range back then was nothing like you get today! If you bought at pawn shops, the pedal effectively chose you, as you usually couldn't try them out, and the range was even more limited than the music shop!

I got it in 99-00 and loved it, but you know how fuzz can take you down a never ending road. I lean towards triangle muff style fuzz, and there were just better options. Going through my suitcases I grabbed a few others that were half forgotten to reexamine at this stage in my playing, and I’m gonna have some fun today!! The cheese source is my favourite, best sounding thick overdrive & so many ripping but totally useable fuzz sounds. On the cheese setting the gated fuzz can sound like a synth or a bee or a broken computer, it's just excellent. I don't have the flange or tremolo or separate big cheese & brown source pedals but am using the wee metal board as my main small gigging board at the moment. Bought 2 of the pedals direct from them before they closed & remember i got slagged off by Dan for having a dodgy email address. Have sent pedals to him to repair more recently, not sure of he's still offering that but a very nice guy if you have reason to chat to him.

To me, they seem to be more than a pedal and more of a studio tool. The question mark for example: a normal flanger is limited to a particular range that you associate a flanger to. The Question Mark seems to be the range that those parameters are limited to. Like you would view that as the typical range a flanger has but expanding out into the range the parameters have outside its category. Really interesting and creative

Though I'm a Fuzz/Disto/OD freak and long time worshipper of the Electric Church at the alter of Hendrix for 35 gainfully saturated, fuzzed up, overdriven years, I gotta say my favorite personal pedal pick award goes to.....?. The odd quirkiness and hours of "fun for the whole family" vibe and tones in that short clip proved to be just that, hours of wild, weird and whacky fun. Though there was some fine fuzz-tastic freak-out, fuzz/OD coming out of the Cheese Source, (which of course is runner up) the fun of exploring strange alternate universal sonic soundscapes for eons won me over. Great vids Josh, all of them, thanks! Rite on and fuzz on! Fun freaky fuzz fact: the oldest and most fuzzumental pedal I own is a Guild "FOXY LADY" from 1975. I aquired it on a trade 20+ years ago but it does need a little work.

This video brought back memories of talking to Vlad on the phone when I paid for my pedals and then getting a big phone bill for the international call. You can hear the Lovetone influence in the pedals from Chase Bliss.

my favourite band: i think they're never trying to imitate old records but California band The Mother Hips always have gorgeous guitar tones that reminds me to classic rock records.

Another lively & lovely episode. I first encountered LoveTone devices when I read a review of the Meatball in a UK music/instrument magazine (maybe Guitarist?). I was fascinated, and surprised. Pedals? Single pedals? Don’t we just want digital multiple-FX devices in racks? And therein lay there demise; LoveTone were ahead of their time, and couldn’t generate enough interest for what were very expensive devices at the time to make it successful, yet, like Firefly, LoveTone, no “boutique” pedal market. Or craft Gin.
