I'm not Dwyrin, but I'm 2 Dan online, and have never bothered memorising the letters or numbers. The Star points are bigger, and you can memorise joseki and fuseki based on them. In fact that is more useful, as each corner may vary from game to game.

Absolutely not! That sounds like a terrible idea unless your entire mental representation of the game in your head is in that format. Otherwise it's a very visual game (even modern AI treats the board like a 19x19 image) so you should try to use that part of your brain and think about shapes.

ShadowInSoul I’m a 20k. I try and remember the descriptions of the moves, rather than the coordinates. For example, hoshi, low approach, backs of low, knights move into the corner, takes 3-3, two space enclosure describes the common 4-4 Joseki.if you listen to Dwyrin he uses these descriptions, extend, connect, cut, push. This helps me understand more of what is going on and what the moves are doing. It also has the advantage of being independent of where the moves are being made sit doesn’t matter what corner, or where you are sitting.
