Dan Spivey joins Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw. Dan tells us the story of the legendary fight that started in the ring and finished in the locker room with Adrian Adonis.
I thought Dan spivey from sky scraper Days would of been a better syd than syd justice. He was more believable to me. But yes, Mercy was ahead of his time
@@carolynbuckley8733unfortunately Dan was pretty much physically spent by the time he came back to the WWE as Waylon Mercy, he had a noticeable limp and i believe he needed hip surgery at that point?
I used to listen to rowdy roddy pipers podcast and he always spoke well of Adonis (but they fought over pipers pit/flowershop). Also mentioned in pipers episode of ghost hauntings.
Gerald Brisco and Dan Spivy two men who one of em could stretch you further than Mr. Fantastic or Dan Spivey who knocked out people like Popeye after spinach.
Another big guy that could have been used better. When he came back as Waylon Mercy he was pretty old, could have done something with him earlier. Maybe not the best wrestler, but neither was Hogan or Warrior. He could have been a Stone Cold type character.
I feel like Adrian Adonis was probably a tough guy himself, and would beat the shit out of people. However, he ran up on a bigger tough guy who taught him a lesson. Adonis seemed to be liked by his peers, but also seemed to beat up on job guys over dumb stuff. Spivey is also poorly regarded by many of his peers, but seems like he was a big tough guy who wouldn't back down from a fight. Unfortunately Adonis isn't around to give his side of the story.
I saw The Undertaker telling a story about a time he and Dan were tag teaming together and had a match with the Road Warriors. Taker tells it that Dan worked real stiff with the Road Warriors, and he believed that the Road Warriors were going to come looking for a fight in the locker room. Taker said he started taping up his fists and getting ready to fight. Spivey told Taker not to worry about it. Sure enough, when the Road Warriors got backstage, they shook hands with Taker and Spivey and thanked them for the match. The point of the story was that not even the Road Warriors wanted any smoke from Spivey.
Things Tampa tough guys didn't want learn the hard way. 1. How fast the brothers from Brisco Brothers auto shop could snap your arm. 2. How hard Dick Slater hit with his right hand 3. How hard Dan Spivey hits with his left. That leg dive the guy tried is probably really effective in a fight against a puncher most of the time. Lord knows I was always afraid of getting my right side locked up in a fight. When you run into a lefty like Spivey and try that same move he'll make you pay.
Of all the times Spivey talks about beating up Adonis, this is the first time I've heard him mention seeing him later and saying "everything was ok". I can't help but be skeptical.
@ronniemacdonald2768 But why not mention it until now? Do you know how many shoot interviews Spivey has done over the years? In each interview, he talked about the fight with Adrian and not once did he mention them burying the hatchet in Japan. He never said that until recently and I suspect he wanted to come across as a better man on Dark Side of The Ring. This interview here happened after he took part in Dark Side.
I heard that he and Adonis buried the hatchet right before Adonis went to Japan. Everyone said Spivey was a good guy, so why wouldn't he make amends. Adrian learned the lesson.
Spivey mentored a couple of fellas that went on to become two of the most legendary big men in the history of the business, too bad Kevin Nash didnt get that same apprenticeship....
Before wrestling, Spivey was college football and drafted by the Jets (but didn't sign), a boxer, a bouncer, strong arm for a loan shark, a repo man, and a bounty hunter. Don't f*ck with Dan Spivey. The other wrestlers all say Dan was a gentleman, quiet, good to work with, and a nice guy. They were surprised to find out how dangerous he is. Many of the wrestlers disliked Adonis, although Piper was his friend I think. Adonis had a rep of being a bully and being a prick. Guys said he was gross.
i call B.S. on Spivey beating Adonis, more like it was 50/50 pull apart ,Adonis was a proper man's man wrestler from the golden age not some hot head first on the bill nobody jobber who was lucky to have a job
Many wrestlers were there. Brian Blair, Hillbilly Jim, JYD, Savage, Orndorf, and others. Jimmy Hart too. They all tell the same story. The interviews are on YT. Spivey beat the living hell out of Adonis. Adrian never got a shot in. He was hospitalized for a week. Greg Valentine saw Adonis after he got out of the hospital and said he didn't know a human head could swell that much. He was afraid for Adrians health. Spivey is a former bouncer, repo man, bounty hunter, boxer, and college football player who was drafted by the Jets. He's 6'7'' and had 100 pounds on Adonis.
