Irene Cara was about 24 years old when she sang this song. She died at age of 63 in 2022 of some kind of heart disease, if I remember correctly.

Bro when you say there was a lot of light skin on the stage, Irene was a mixture of Cuban & Puerto Rican and those dancers were the Rock Steady Crew who were poppin at the time. They were all Puerto Rican as well and were hot back then in the early 80s.

Disco kinda stops in 1980 like it was a light switch that was turned off…And 1980s synthesizer music kinda started right at 1980 as well (at first it was called the electric piano which has a slightly different sound but evolved into a straight up synthesizer)

This was the beginning of a cross over period in music, dance, culture and more. I believe they used these guys doing the break dancing to introduce it to a "white" audience. This helped to make the cross over easier to white america and more accepting. It's not right, but it worked. It had to start somewhere and this was one of many that helped make that happen.

Not sure who her free dancing is like... a what is it.... it was 60s 70s 80s even 90s... you could do it in any club or basic bar with a band... and to say infer those break-dancers were not professionals.... this was not a huge venue. THIS WAS A TV MDA TELETHON EVENT to raise money.... We are lucky to have it as a video... another video used is with scenes from the movie this song is in - Flashdance... I know you really mean no ill will... still this was 40-yrs ago... we cannot infer things like... lacked being professional in dancers even. Though break-dancing began early 70s it was early 80s it got popular so this is still early as it evolved further making it into music/dance events on TV and official videos coming out.

You totally need to do Fame. Another phenomenal movie theme by Irene. She was the SHIT in the early 80s. You could not turn on the radio, regardless of channel, without hearing something by her. Talent TV Shows then were CHEESY!
