My European brothers, i know you have your share of contribution to motorsports and i, think that too often you speak out of ignorance for NASCAR and Cup racing, at least of the 1960's. A Petty Garage 426 Hemi that was built put out 850 hp and close to 1000 ft lbs of torque. Sure, the Turbo Porshce 917 and Renault and BMW put out over 1400hp but those were turbo charged. This is just one engine. Chrysler and their Hemispherical heads and combustion chamber revolutionized the automotive world. Hemi heads(which Chrysler owns the name) are much better than a wedge head combustion chamber. NASCAR engines are naturally aspirated. Despite them being big cars, which they are most especially the Dodge Chargers were very light, often with a curb weight of just 3100lbs and a uni-body construction. Cup Cars on NASCAR were setting speed records the same time the FIA was putting up armco barriers, which NASCAR just had concrete walls and no saftey until the death of Dale Earnheardt and HANS was the product of his death. Speeds of Cup Cars of the 1960's over 220mph on the super speedways. The sunroof was created in NASCAR when a driver couldn't see a head in a race because the banking on the super speedways only provided a limited field of view and he cut out a hole in his roof to see ahead. Do the physics and elements which create a need for this type of solution and you have a very wild and dangerous sport.
Russell Coleman yes your correct, torque and rpm in the same motor, unbeatable. Chrysler only trademarked the name hemi.They didn't invent the design. Chrysler's version of the hemi engine was very fast on the super speedways no doubt but the boss 429 was just as fast and the 427 cammer was faster.

Fun Fact: Petty Blue was developed by Richard Petty and Dale Inman when they were painting Richard's first race car.......they didn't have enough paint of just one color to paint the car so they mixed all of the colors so they had enough and the result was that beautiful blue that was named Petty Blue.

@@grandcouncilorvarmon4495 The very high but throaty revs sound a lot like a rotary in the way that they peak in revolutions and return to idle so rapidly. It's just odd knowing it's a v8.
rotaries have that cackle and brap(the ported ones anyway) because they are moving so much fuel and air at once, thats its actually rich in fuel mixture. the rev happiness is just them having light flywheels.
Unpopular opinion: That sounds close to impossible, but if someone turbocharged a Nascar engine, AK-47 Tuned it, and even made the turbos go stutututu afterwards, would be the best sounding engine ever

I was at a convention years ago representing the oil industry and this real techno nerd looking guy was talking about solar panels and windmills and all cars going electric and I told him it won't work, too many people like to hear that V8 rumble and he said they can do that with speakers. Took everything in me not to knock the shit out of him.

It's a shame Stock cars have been ruined now, look at all the bodies of the old ones and look at the bodies of the new ones, one is overly standardised and "Regulated" so pretty much all cars are nearly the same (just have different stickers to represent different cars) and the other is an entirely different car and is built from an actual production car :(
Well yeah, all cars are really regulated and look the same now because they’re insanely safe. Safety has been the number 1 priority in the car industry for the last few decades, as it should be.
Kyle Richardson see that’s what I like about NASCAR. They make changes to ensure the safety of the drivers and others involved. Other sports don’t care about the players nearly as much.
Kyle the problem with that they only go off with whatever the governing body thinks is safe, there are body designs out there that would probably be pretty good compared to some of these, also the fact they don't use production cars anymore and use pretty much the same engines across the board removes the competition.
