There's 2 songs i'm surprised weren't on here... "The sound of silence" originally by Simon and Garfunkle , and covered by Disturbed "I will always love you" originally by Dolly Parton , and covered by Whitney Houston
With regards to Bohemian Rhapsody, I do stand with the original Queen version, but Brendan Urie is honestly one of the most capable singers of our time, and he had the ability to cover the song well; his version is my second favorite. I also like the Muppets version though, that one is just plain fun while still being respectful of the original (and I believe it's something Brian May understood as well, hence why he was willing to actually let the Muppets team use the master tapes). For a Part 2, please include David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World" with, of course, Nirvana's version.
Part 2 now please: Sound of silence ( Simon and Garfunkel vs Disturbed) I will always love you (Dolly Parton vs Whitney Houston) Stay with me (Sam Smith vs T-Pain on the Masked Singer) Hurt (9 Inch Nails Vs Johnny Cash) Radioactive (Imagine Dragons vs Pentatonix)
Queen for Bohemian Rhapsody, Aretha for Respect, Beatles for Come Together, Tina Turner for Proud Mary, Elton John for Bennie and the Jets, Madonna for Borderline. With Life is a Highway I think it’s a tie.
I was thinking that too. She still right though - he did not eat compared to Freddie Mercury. To his credit though, that's like, a universal thing, it's not like Brendon Urie is the only one - I don't think anyone could REALLY do Queen justice.
@chieftanke no it is not far far far superior Dolly never had to yell at the top of her lungs just to be noticed! Both renditions are amazing in their own rights! You must be a country music hatr!
Smooth Criminal - MJ vs Smooth Criminal - Alien Ant Farm Sound of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel vs Sound of Silence - Disturbed Rolling in the Deep - Adele vs Rolling in the Deep - Linkin Park Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) - Eurythmics vs Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) - Marilyn Manson
@@jayking6360 Oh, there are many that i'm remembering just now, like that one. Taited Love, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Another Brick on the Wall, Nothig Else Matters. Many, many good covers out there!
I had to laugh when Anthony stated while listening to Queen said "don't touch Whitney Houston..." seeing as several of her big hits are covers. Yet to mention you missed "Love Hurts" Everly Brothers VS Nazareth.
I’ve seen Panic perform this multiple times and it was chills and goosebumps INCREDIBLE each time. Love that Roger Taylor and Brian May loved Panic’s tribute as well. Legends!!!
This was great, my two picks for the next episode of this, if it is planned, would be: Smooth Criminal - Alien Ant Farm Sound of Silence - Disturbed Cheers!
Suggestions for part 2: Hurt - NIN vs. Johnny Cash Sound of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel vs. Disturbed Land of Confusion - Genesis vs. Disturbed You Really Got Me - The Kinks vs. Van Halen Creep - Radiohead vs. Vintage Postmodern Jukebox ft. Haley Reinhart
I'm surprised they didn't choose to discuss Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You, which is actually a cover. The original was written and recorded by Dolly Parton.
Missing some of the best covers of all time. Hurt, Behind Blue Eyes, Careless Whisper, Sound of Silence, Thunder Rolls, I Will Always Love You, Knocking on Heavens Door
Should have had some fun with them and done some harder rock type covers. Marilyn Manson - Tainted Love In this moment - Call me Disturbed - The sound of silence Metallica - Turn the page Ice Nine Kills - Someone like you I prevail - Blank Space of coarse you could really throw them for a loop Electric Callboy - Every time we touch Dragonforce - My heart will go on
This was fun. I was waiting to see if I Will Always Love You would pop up because some people don't know that Dolly Parton did it (not to mention wrote it) before Whitney Houston. Both versions are so good and different that it would be fun to hear debates on which is better.
They included that in a video where the reactors had to guess whether what was played for them was the original or the cover. Iirc, one or two knew it was a Dolly song first, but most were surprised to hear it wasn't a Whitney original. While I did know that going into it, I think that's the same video where I was surprised to learn that Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was not a Cyndi Lauper original (and was done by an obscure male artist first).
@@andrewgilbert4659 I know it was done before, but I was just wondering which they thought was best and the talk that could ensue. Some of the other songs that were on that earlier episode could also have been included. Just a thought is all.
They mentioned not touching Whitney in the start of the video, but I bet a lot of them don't even know that Dolly wrote and recorded "I Will Always Love You" first. It would be fun to see their reaction to that in another video.
We need more covers vs originals. Sound of Silence (Simon and Garfunkel vs Disturbed), Nothing Else Matters (Metallica vs Biff Naked), It's The End of The World (R.E.M. vs Canadian Great Big Sea), Hurt (Nine Inch Nails vs Johnny Cash), I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself (Dusty Springfield vs. White Stripes), Twist and Shout (The Isley Brothers vs The Beatles), Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen vs KD Lang), Live and Let Die (Paul McCartney vs Guns 'N Roses)
Them trashing on CCR kills my soul. Anyway, they should do another one and use the Ednaswap original of "Torn." Also, Bowie versus Nirvana for "Man Who Sold the World"
Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm, Anyway You Want It by Rise Against, Careless Whisper by Seether... here's one out of left field... Heart Attack by Terabrite rather than Demi Lovato. And of course, TikTok by Woe Is Me... Hot N Cold also... and Blank Space by I Prevail. Oh, and Blame It by Of Mice And Men... and Call Me Maybe by The Animal In Me, and of course, Friday by Jonathan Young ft. Caleb Hyles. All covers I prefer. If possible, I'd love for you to get Jonathan and Caleb to react to covers vs originals, since it's what they do. Also, I'd love to see what they say about Friday lol.
The original of life is a highway holds a special place in my heart! It was the song chosen to audition for the high-school dance team and preformed many times back in my youth.
'Zombies' The Cranberries vs Bad Wolves 'House of the Rising Sun' The Animals vs Five Finger Death Punch 'We Didn't Start The Fire' Billy Joel vs Fallout Boy
As a Canadian, I have to go with Tom’s original version. I still remember being absolutely floored when it became such a massive hit in the US, at the time. I LOVED (still do) CCR back in high school. I even used it as my computer password for typing class. :) Tina owns it though. Phoebe Bridgers’ version is really good. What’s great about The Cure’s original version is that it is one of those feel good super catchy tunes, juxtaposed with some pretty depressing lyrics, that when you finally realise it, sends you to the freezer for some ice cream. lol
dont forget Urie were in live while you compering the studio version of the queen. I personly love both version, plus on the first Suicide Squad ost include the Panic version
I remember hearing Bob Dylan and Trent Reznor admitted they prefer the covers of "All Along the Watch Tower" (Jimi Hendrix) and "Hurt" (Johnny Cash). And as a Canadian, Tom Cochrane's "Life is a Highway" is the only choice.
Other options for originals vs covers: Jolene: Dolly Parton vs Miley Cyrus The Sound of Silence: Simon and Garfunkle vs Disturbed More Than A Feeling: Boston vs *Nsync I Drove All Night: Cyndi Lauper vs Celine Dion It's All Coming Back to Me Now: Meatloaf vs Celine Dion
The Cranberries and Bad Wolves - Zombie would be a good one for a round 2 vid... I would always take The Cranberries but the update Bad Wolves did was fantastic too
Brendon ATE that performance, you don’t have to be a singer or musician to acknowledge that. I get the point of this game but Brendon Urie did not try to make a cover that would be better than the original, it’s just a way of showing respect and paying homage to one of the greatest bands that have ever existed.
I am very suprised Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson and covered by Alien Ant Farm wasn't in this video. One of the most controversial OG VS Cover discussions in my personal experience
In all do respect to tin turner but i think that the original version of proud Mary from CCR is technically the better version hands down because it was meant to be more Classic rock not pop rock
All along the watchtower (Dylan/Hendrix) Nothing Comparess 2U (Prince/Sinéad) Halleluja (Cohen/Buckley) Word up (Cameo/Korn) Live and Let Die (McCartney/GunsNRoses)
The next one should include The Sound of Silence (Original being Simon & Garfunkel and cover being Disturbed) and Hurt (Original being from Nine Inch Nails and cover by Johnny Cash)
Placebo covering Running up that Hill has always been one of my fave covers. Also Johnny Cash's version of hurt. Gotta do another one of these, so many songs you never realized were covers...
Disturbed's cover of "Land of confusion" (Genesis) and/or their cover of "Sound of Silence" (Simon and Garfunkel) would've been better in there than some of those. Or even Shinedown's "Simple Man" (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Tom Cochrane is far superior to Rascall Flatts version of Life is a Highway. Plus as a Canadian I can't vote against him, especially because we're from the same province lol
How do you not do Sound of Silence Simon and Garfunkel vs Disturbed or even Simple Man Lynyrd Skynyrd vs Shinedown, Smooth Criminal Michael Jackson vs AAF, Turn the Page Bob Seger vs Metallica. there are a few others too that are really close too but man they missed a lot of good ones!!
Turn The Page, Metallica by freaking MILES. My favourite Metallica song. Went bonkers when they played it live at the last concert of theirs I went to.
I'm actually surprised that you didn't have Smooth Criminal on here. I was 20 something when my mom heard me listening to the Alien Ant Farm version of it and then looked at me and said you know this was originally sung by Micheal Jackson, right? I freaked out for a good 10 minutes because no I actually hadn't 😂
I'm a HUGE P!ATD fan (like a REAL fcking Sinner) and I'm obsessed with Brendon's version of Bohemian Rhapsody (it's the best cover I've ever seen in my entire life (Pantatonix's as well)), BUT I DO agree that the original version is UNTOUCHABLE
If I have to compare a Bohemian Rhapsody cover to the original it would be Pentatonix's version. OG is still better but the latter comes close. Also, Haley Reinhart's cover of Benny & The Jets on Idol is one of the best covers compared to what was shown here.
Sound of Silence (Simon & Garfunkel) is my all time favorite song, it just hits me right in the core every time! But Disturbed's cover is damn near the only cover of that song I like!
It's comparing apples to oranges. Cash's version is of an old man at the end of life looking back. His pain comes from having no time left to make different choices or make amends. NIN's version is of a young man at the beginning of life looking forward. His pain is from the hopelessness and dread of a future that he feels won't get better. He still has the option to live and change, he just can't bear the pain to do so.
@dream_in_digital oh, I'm very aware, I just think for a reaction video it's a better option than the Madonna/ flaming lips one. The different messages between NIN and Cash is what makes both really good
Right? The man is only 10 years older than me. He did end up quitting music so he and his wife could start a family, but still. Would she say the same about Ozzy Osbourne who's old enough to be Brendon Urie's father at 74?
