You’re definitely ready for Mayday! I didn’t see this anywhere else in the comments so forgive me if I’m repeating, Don McLean ASKED Home Free to do this in celebration of the song’s 50th anniversary. There is a documentary on the background and creation of the song on Paramount+ and Home Free has a part in that as well. Great reaction!
My understanding is that Tim had actually been in communication with Don's company for about 2 years working on this collab. You can find a BTS video about it on YT as well.
@@shercahn Yeah Tim had reached out to Don's Company a few years ago about doing it but for whatever reason it didn't happen. So when the 50th was coming up, Don essentially asked them to do it. And of all the people who have covered the song, Don invited Weird Al and Home Free to his Walk Of Fame Star dedication where Home Free got to perform part of the song. Such a cool moment!
You guys haven't heard Tim's range yet. Listen to his solo "Will You Still Love Me / Stay" if you want to be impressed. It is still acapella, and he harmonizes with himself.
Don reached out to Home Free I believe to do the release for the 50th anniversary. He also asked HF to sing this when he received his Star, which I also believe was the first time that happened.
Hi guys! Tim's range is ridiculous, take a listen to Snow Globe when you get a chance and you'll see his range there. Plus he does WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW/STAY. Since I don't have you is another one. These guys are truly amazing. Great reactions!
What a beautiful blending of Don and Home Free-what a tribute of respect to Don. This is lovely! Don is amazing still at his age! I love that the boxes that they are in the style of a "memory box"!
Love this remake of this classic song. Can't believe it came out 50 years ago. Don McLean still has a good voice for his age. And love hearing all the guys take a turn in a verse. Poor Adam had to do such a long stretch of beatboxing but he nailed it. Think the song is about 8 min. long. Don McLean received his Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame recently & Home Free was invited to sing a portion of this song there. What an honor for them. "American Pie" pays tribute to the loss of 3 legends who died so young (Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & The Big Bopper). A lot of references in the song are made to many artists from the early days of music including Elvis, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Byrds & others.
When I watched your reaction, I knew there'd be comments suggesting that you do Home Free's cover of Mayday, and sure enough, there are! So, I'll say it as well, based on a comment you made, I think you'd be interested in Mayday, and I look forward to your reaction to that. Great job, I really enjoyed watching this.
Such a fun reaction, I really enjoyed seeing the fella in the Maryland hat beebopping his head and the grey hat fella wearing a huge smile all the way through. (sorry that I can't remember names)
It's hard to believe this song could be polished up and elevated cause it was pretty epic to begin with. Leave it to Home Free to do just that. Don still sounds great and teamed up with Home Free is just awesome. Pretty cool he wanted them to reimagine his classic song with him for the 50th anniversary. Home Free has rubbed elbows with some legendary artists. Fate has smiled on all of us for these 5 crazy talented guys coming together to create the music fit for angels. It was cool seeing how much you guys enjoyed and appreciated this. Great reaction!!
For Spencer to only pause the vid twice in 10 minutes just shows how good this is and how impressed you guys where by it, pure magic, I’m so glad you found Home Free for us to watch along with you, thanks
You should react to their cover of "Elvira" with the Oakridge Boys and "Mayday" the react to Tim's solo song "Will You Still Love Me/Stay" those last 2 will show Tim's incredible range.
A few fun factoids about this: Don specifically sought the out to do the 50th anniversary version of the song He also brought them to sing a small part of it at his walk of fame induction Many other great collabs w/oak Ridge Boys, Statler Bros, etc (Beautiful Star of Bethlehem is, well, beautiful ;-)
Don came to them and asked them to help him re-introduce this song on it's 50th anniversary. I think it's a winner. I know later in the year Don was given a star on the Hollywood walk of fame and Home free was there for the ceremony.
With their own twist, but still keeping the respect and appreciation for Don McLean, Home Free has made another incredible version of it!! ❤ But even after all those years Don McLean is still so great👏
MAYDAY - It's Time! American Pie Don McLean approached Home Free and asked if they would be willing to do the project for the 50th Anniversary of the song. Well when Don ask, what do you say? The rest is history.
Don wanted to do a tribute to American Pie's 50 years so he asked Home Free to do it with him. When asked why he chose Home Free he said "Because they Know harmony!"
It’s a good one. Don sounded great for 75! When he got the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame he asked Home Free to come out and celebrate with him. How cool is that? I liked the boxes. It reminded me of shadow boxes you keep your memories in. This was during Covid so I thought it was clever. Good reaction!😃
The newer dude is Adam Chance, called Chance since there was already an Adam. He used to be the bass voice in another a cappella group called Street Corner Symphony. They came in 2nd place in season 2 (2010) of the Sing-Off. Chance has been good friends with Jenika Marion (now Foust) long before either meeting Tim Foust. I think she was the one who invited Chance and his group to be part of Home Free's video House Party. Chance is the one wearing the white bathrobe and having a glass of liquor always in hand. He's mostly the baritone of the group but can take the low position when Tim goes high. The both sound great either way. Also check out my favorite SCS video Madness.
Enjoyed your reaction. Home Free did an amazing job of Listen to the Music by Doobie Brothers. It's a fun song that again shows their remarkable talent.
“The newer dude” is Adam Chance, and his baritone/bass is smokey and so smooth. As a Home Fry, I’m kinda on the fence about it being time for Mayday just yet. I recommend you hear more of Chance’s voice first. Some of my favorites are Helplessly Hoping, Winter Song, Castle on the Hill, and The Driver. I’d also recommend doing at least one video with each of them leading. I don’t think you’ve done one with Rob featured, and I’d recommend End of the Road and Bless the Broken Road.
After reading the comments I agree with all! Elvira with the Oakridge Boys is awesome! Children go where I send thee with Kenny Rodgers is epic! And my favorite song that highlights Chance is Born in the USA. The list goes on. There is no bad Home Free song!
“Mr Low Note” has an amazing range. He can sing high and he can (and does) blow out microphones at concerts. I agree with the others: you need to watch Mayday.
Best reaction to this song ever! Loved it! Spencer I could hear you singing this song in your heart by your expression and Daniel your smile was priceless! Backtracking your posts as I am a new subscriber! Love from Texas!!!
Tim can sing 5 octaves from super low to super high. Chance, who is the first guy that sings after Don, can also sing bass and does the bass notes when Tim sings higher.
Loved your reaction to another great one with the boys... Did you guys ever react to their collab of "God Bless the USA" with the man himself, Lee Greenwood AND the Navy Music Band? You definitely also need to start looking at Tim's solo work, in particular "Will you still love me / Stay". Another classic, by Home Free with the OGs that you might like is "Elvira" with the Oak Ridge Boys.
Home Free has collaborations with legends, among those are Kenny Rogers, Alabama, Charlie Daniels, Don McLean, Peter Hollens and the Oak Ridge Boys. Their 'quarantine' series (done during Covid) include "Diamond Dreams", "Moonshine", Sunday Best" and "Down to the Honkytonk". Keep falling down the rabbit hole! Love from Canada.
P.S. - Tim (bass) has a 5 octave range. Check out the live video "Mayday (Live)" or his original song "Snow Globe" or "Will you still love me tomorrow/Stay".
A new Sub because of Home Free. Welcome to the "rabbit hole" known as HF. Hold on & enjoy the ride. This song was recorded in 1971. I was a Senior High School. I still have it on a 45. Tim has a 5+ ovtave range.
You need to watch some of their concerts that fans, myself included, recorded, and posted to RU-vid. They are hilarious. You should watch Between Two Tim's, where Tim interviews Chance after he joined Home Free. 🤣
This is such an awesome video! Don McLean was so very awesome. Home Free did so very awesome! Tim has a 5-octave range. You need to react to Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay. It will blow your mind! Love your reactions!
just too much. This is the song of my generation.....I was in 6th grade at Everglades Elementary here in Miami when it was released (Oct 24th, 1971)...every kid in school knew this one by heart before the year was out. And throughout the rest of my school days if we took a field trip this was the 1st song we sang. Thanks guys, and if you want to hear more of Chance, Home Free did a cover of the Boos's big hit, Born in the USA in which Chance takes the lead.....his voice just completes Home Free !!!
Go listen to Tim's rendition of Will You Still Love Me/ Stay & Home Free's version on Mayday to hear Tim's range. FYI...Chance does bass when Tim sings high.
I think you guys are ready for Home Free's Mayday. Also, you should do a reaction to Weird Al's version of American Pie. It's called The Saga Begins. It's nothing short of brilliant. Great reaction, guys. Keep them coming.
Great reaction! I would like to suggest Moonshine and Meet in the Middle, two of their pandemic songs, so each of these gentlemen recorded their parts at their respective homes and then sent it in to be put together. Meet in the Middle has a fantastic video. Of course, the vocals in both songs are amazing.
Great isn't it?! (Have you also done Kenny Rogers with HF on Children Go Where I Send Thee? Incredible!!) Don did ask HF to do this with him for the 50th and asked for it to be a bit more hepped up and sped up. There is a great Behind the Scenes of him working them and arranger extraordinaire Darren Rust. Don is asking Darren to make him sound good because he said he didn't have the voice he used to. And Darren made sure it all worked out perfectly for all of them and us!!! I was there in the 60s and 70s when the Vietnam War (he references throughout in various ways) was going on, husband there for 14.5 months! But then the young vets came home to protests against the war and them and it was one huge awful mess! Then he of course references all the assassinations of Kennedys and MLK Jr. Well, anyway, loved this classic so much as it was from "my day."! Take care guys and thanks!
Awesome!!! Now, many say go to Tim's page and check that out ----- STOP!!! The one ya need to hear 1st is "MAYDAY" ... then you can go wherever ya want from there!!!! Be Safe
Great reaction guys!! The “new “ guy is Adam Chance goes by Chance. They found him when they were on The Sing Off Season 4 he was with another group called Street Corner Symphony when he left them Home Free asked him to join when Chris Rupp left to pursue a solo career Hhere a few Home Free songs he has lead Can’t Outrun You (Trace Atkins ) Cover Me Up ( Morgan Wallen),Dive Bar Saints (HF original )Born In The USA ( Bruce Springsteen) Brother (Need To Breathe )Workin For A Living ( Huey Lewis).
@@pattywilson1534 What the heck I didn’t write that I know they were on the sing off that’s how long I’ve been following them if you look at any of my comments they all say sing off season 4 I don’t know what been happening but things like this have happening lately 🤬
Tim has his own channel that show cases his true range. however, if you want to see it with the group check out Mayday. Not only does it show how high he can go but it showcases Chances his bass abilitiies bc he takes over for Tim.
You definitely need to check out Tim's you tube channel. He has a doo wop album with songs he sings all the parts. This is his mid range vocally, I think. First off, check out Mayday!
