Being born and raised in Louisiana, I grew up hearing so many of these stories, myths, and legends. With it's dark, thick woods, creepy swamps and bayous, and it's dark and bloody history, it's no wonder so many legends arise from this state, much less New Orleans by itself. Thank you for representing a bit of our culture.
Hi nathan.i agree.that area has a dark past.plus many myths.but i do find it facinating.where i live i back onto over 300 acres of very deep forest.so when i go walking im well equiped
New Orleans is so hauntingly mystical. I learned some things I didn't know before, from this charming video, & I thoroughly enjoyed it as well! Brilliantly done!🌹💜
50 years old. Born and raised in New Orleans I've heard every one of these stories growing up. I used to play music and named my first band Grunch Road.
Some more details about the haunted hotel: It was an orphanage at one point and the child ghost was given to them because he had severe birth defects. His father was an abusive alcoholic who beat his wife throughout her pregnancy. The matron of the orphanage allowed people to see the child for a donation to the orphanage as long as they behaved themselves. He was viewed as an example of the consequences of the evil of alcohol and domestic violence. People experience the ghost of a boy running, laughing and sometimes hiding their things. The matron is another ghost in the hotel. She was a good woman and protective of her children. After she died, any caretakers who abused the children in the orphanage reported unexplained sounds and injuries until they left. Guests at the hotel sometimes report waking up to find their sheets have been tucked into hospital corners while they slept. She is still trying to take care of her children.
OMG!! Same!! This is so cool!! Never knew about some of these legends or beasties running around. I'm gonna have fun using some of these legends for my own books. One of them will be placed in Louisiana so this will be a fun little experiment.
So many left out … The Beast Ramon and The Bloody Lady, the oldest known vampires in New Orleans legend; Bras Coupe, The Zombi King; Violette, the Zombi Child; the Devil Baby; the Swamp Golem; the Axeman… I’ve written about all of these, and am currently writing about more! Regarding the Grunch, Grunch Road and the Albino and dwarf outcasts were all located in an area called Little Woods in East New Orleans. Many people disappeared out there, but there are some who survived their encounters with the Grunch. However, there is some overlap between the Grunch and the Sigbin, a goat-like creature of Filipino legend connected with the vampiric “Tik-Tik.” The Filipinos of St. Malo, the first Asian settlement in America, located out in the “trembling marshes,” knew both well, and it has been said that they brought the creatures with them from their homelands. The Grunch is still out there today. East New Orleans was also home to a werewolf cult - and to actual werewolves - in the ‘70s. It was a genuine scare back then, and at least one child is believed to have been turned into a werewolf by the cult leader. Regarding Madame Lalaurie: Almost every detail of the stories told about her are absolute fakelore. To this day (the events occurred in 1834) she is repeatedly maligned by tour guides on the steps of her own house, 364 days a year. People will believe anything, apparently.
Most of the stories from the quarter are heavily heavily embellished, I should know, I was a tour guide there. Atun Shei films as a great video on what that's like and the truth about many of those stories , and I Definitely recommend it.
Where is East New Orleans? You mean "New Orleans East"? or "Da East"? I have never seen or heard anything about a Werewolf Cult. My family has been here since before America existed and none of the elders remembers this including my parents who were young adults at that time. The Times Picayune archives return nothing and it has records going back to the 1800s. I'm very interested though, whats your source? The Filipinos mixed their legends with the Maroons who had come out of Florida. The Grunch creature is a mangy racoon/coyote same as the "chupacabra" "A jazz record a day keeps the axeman away" A lot of people forgot about Bras Coupe. I remember the old folks laughing about the "same ol tricks" when Foti/Harry Lee were complaining (much like other LEO Leaders) about being outgunned and needing to escalate tactics back in the 90s. Glock was there to cut a multi billion dollar (and growing deal) across the nation LaLaurie makes money, same as the stories coming out of the Myrtles which are also historically incorrect, impossible and a lie /shrug
@@alyneorleans5018 yeah I’m just pokin Run into so many people saying they are “from New Orleans” but there are always those little things that give away that they aren’t really FROM New Orleans I knew you were using your non regional diction so these outsiders can follow But back to these Werewolves in the 70s cher. You got sources? Can’t find anything besides the Rougarou As a kid I always wondered how I’d know which footprint to drink water from ;)
Stay on Bourbon street after dark ... . Grew up across the River from the city proper and once led a tour of the Quarter in my French class ... including a visit to Marie Laveau's tomb to see the brick x's placed on the paler construction to ask for her help. The cemeteries are amazing.
I'd love a full episode of ghosts of New Orleans (or anything else you'd like to cont about this city. It's so interesting)! I just found your channel and am loving it. Thanks for these videos.
I'm also a life long Louisiana resident and I have experienced many weird things in New Orleans. I worked in New Orleans as a Louisiana State Special Officer during and after Hurricane Katrina and I saw many things that should not exist but do.
Hi david.wow sounds interesting.i bet you have seen alot .your state is facinating. Alot of history.im sure il get back there this year.i fly alover .so il visit soon
Yes I know I would love an episode on the Ghosts of New Orleans and even a deeper dive into the other legends talked about here, the Grunches in particular as I'd never heard of them before.
I always wanted to visit New Orleans it's one of my favorite cities in the States. The bayou scares me even more by hearing about those creatures, also i am so glad you brought up Marie Leavou she is indieed a famous person in the city.
If you haven't been there how can it be your favorite? I've heard nothing but evil about it. It's on the same latitude of St. Augustine where I lived for 30 years.
@@andyokus5735 true, I may not have been there But I have seen plenty of videos and photos and I like it. It's appealing to my eye nothing wrong with that right.
Hi rj. New orleans is so beautiful.and has a fabulous past.and creepy stoies also.i always say if u go walking into deep places make sure your well equipped.i love places that have stories and culture
@@andyokus5735 because it’s 2023 not 1903 and information about things is available in things called books and movies T-Rex is the favorite dinosaur of a lot of kids. Guess how many they have seen/touched? You should heed those warning and stay away 🤭
I have always found the ambience of foreboding and mysterious settings like New Orleans as being quite alluring. Not to mention the myths and legends that surround this crescent city of the bayou.
I’m surprised this video didn’t include the Casket girls from the Ursuline convent. Where people say at night Vampires would come out at dusk. What creepy is that locals in the daytime say the windows are closed and shut off but at dusk someone opens them. As if to let someone or something out. 😨😨
Such good work. I know you did the rougarou in it’s own article, which I learned from my mothers people who are German immigrants, that you can turn into a werewolf if you don’t go to confession for 7 years time. Just tryin to help. That one was a beauty. You’ve a subscriber for good an all, keep it up. I really look forward to these. My two boys an my little girl love them.
Oooo this is so FASCINATING! Ooo! I wonder yall!? About Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles! I wonder if Rice got inspiration from Jacques! 🥹😭! Germain reminds me so MUCH of the fabulous Louis! LOVE this! And always been been drawn to this beautiful an mysterious city! 🥹! And my father said my ancestors lived here! Always natural been a spiritual person! 😆Im definitely going to visit soon! 😃
I traveled to New Orleans several years ago. I went the first time when there wasn't a celebration or holiday but when snow fell I was prepared because I'm from Indiana where it has some ice and snow by the time I had to leave I was genuinely upset and tears in my eyes like I was leaving home and traveling somewhere else very weird sorry rambling but yes a definite yes on ghost's and I would see about fairies of the swamp? Bless your gingerbread hearts 🌻🎃🌻✨🧹💥🍄🌷🧹
The love and beauty of New Orleans, Louisiana wholes such great legends and mysteries from top to bottom within its culture. Especially the 504's own legends of 🧛♂️🧛♀️ 1:32 and 🐺🐺 3:23

What a way to catch my attention straight away Vamps! I'm glad you said Lestat was influenced by Jacque St Germain as he immediately made me think of him.....or at least Interview with the Vampire popped into my head Lol No this was cool!
I'm not from the USA, so i don't know much about New Orleans, but i have heard about the Rougarou, and about the Cajun folklore. I do want to visit New Orleans some day.
Me and my wife at the time. I took her to New Orleans. First time for her. We took a ghost tour. Seen where the vampires was. Three of them. One that you said and three more. The one in the church and the two brothers. We went into a voodoo shop. She went one way and I went the other. I was looking at the voodoo dolls. I heard someone calling my name. I thought it was my wife. I went to her and she didn't call me. There was only three people there. Me my wife and the lady working there. I asked the lady. Was she on the phone with someone. Thinking it was her talking to someone. She said no. I looked at the woman kinda supposed. I told her what happened. She gave me a smile. The doll was talking to you. She said it happens sometimes. I asked her how did it know my name. The doll felt you and knows things about you after you picked it up. I believe in all types of religion. Never thought something like that would ever happen to me
When I was a teenager in the early 1970's a group of us would ride around in a Chevy blazer and drive down old shell roads and trails in eastern New Orleans along the edges of the swamp. One night we were driving along laughing and joking drinking beer and smoking along what was widely known to be Grunch Road there was a small canal on one side and people used to do illegal dumping there . one night we were driving along slowly around brush and trash piles and something hit the side of the truck with a fierce bang. we all screamed and didn't know whether to laugh or cry we spun around and got the hell out of there back onto the paved road that ran along the lake Haynes Blvd. When we finally stopped there was a huge dent in the side of the truck.
YES! YES YES YES YES YES! WHO DAT?! Finally! A video on my home town of the Big Easy! Thank you my man! Let good times roll! *Ahem* Yes. Thank you for this. Though I have to ask, why didn't you mention Voodoo or Marie Leavau?
The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland in Anaheim, California must’ve been inspired by Louisiana’s ghost stories and myths, besides the ride is in New Orleans Square in Disneyland. Zombies were originally from the Caribbean and Louisiana, way before horror movies, I’ve watched Scooby Doo on Zombie Island when I was a kid. It took place in Louisiana and it has zombies, ghosts, a haunted house, voodoo, and immortality-seeking werecats. Louisiana sure has lots of horrifying myths and ghost stories that have been told for many years. Pretty creepy and terrifying.
I just wanted to ask if you can do myths and legends of Colorado? I've been hearing and seeing so many other states have myths and legends, but not from here, so I'd like to see if there's any here.
Could you do a video on St Germain? Not the St Germain in this video, but of the supposed immortal/time traveller St Germain, I find him rather fascinating.
@@cayreet5992 Maybe... but given the description of St Germain/Vampire Jack in this video, I'm kinda doubtful they're the same person, but who knows? Maybe the Count of St Germain is a vampire who settled in New Orleans and started the story of Vampire Jack?
I may not be Catholic, but I'm observing Lent as a means of challenging myself. Because coffee makes me hyper and more prone to anxiety, I've decided to give up drinking coffee in observation of Lent. If I want to get my caffeine kick during this time, I'll drink black tea instead.
I wonder if people of New Orleans consider the flooding made by Hurricane Katrina was an influence of its respected legends. Like perhaps a great flood in its own right.
The area from the gulf to Baton Rouge is amazing. It's easy to see why superstitions & lore are so embedded in that area. It's been that way since before Europeans were there
I live in South East Louisiana and one night I heard the most vicious growl come from a wooded area behind some apartments it sounded like a Hollywood movie sound effect. I heard the growl but didn't see it's source. Very creepy very creepy
My favorite movies in New Orleans are the princess and the frog, all dogs go to heaven and Scooby Doo on zombie island and my favorite TV series in New Orleans is NCIS New Orleans ❤
I'm surprised you didn't mention how the Rougarou are supposed to all get together and have dances out on Bayou Goula every now and then. I was also hoping we'd get something here about a creature called the Peremalfait, who was apparently some sort of Cajun boogeyman. But that's just me being greedy. It's a great piece of work.
I want to meet Jacques St. Germain, and have him turn me into a vampire. That way I can continue living as I do, staying awake all night playing video games! 🧛
Born and raised in NOLA, learned some new stuff. Like why subconsciously I'd never ever go to the bayous lol. Your channel popped up on my feed today, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
