Lenovo Legion 5 Pro. I like this thing! But I still have more QHD gaming laptops to go through! If you missed it I compared the Surface Pro X to the HP Elite Folio which you can find here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ld95VJjaN6c.html
Hey Matthew... I am a business user and I use the menu key on the keyboard all the time, but non of these new laptops have a dedicated menu key (even the business ones like the ThinkPad). Could you let me know if I can remap a key (say the right ctrl key) to act as the menu key. I am in the market for a new ultrabook but this is issue is making it impossible for me to buy an ultrabook. Thanks! Love your short and focused reviews!
It's worth mentioning you can power this off USB-C, so while you'd want the huge power brick for any gaming, for normal use you could use a much smaller charger.
Thanks for pointing this out, quite useful point to consider. Gaming laptop is still just a laptop that can be used for other tasks without necessarily the need for full-fledged power.
Matt, you've stepped it up for the past few months - this vid, no exception. You're adding that little bit extra energy & it goes a long, long way. It's no longer just a Linus, Dave n' Lew world!! Move over, Matt's here.
Worries about sticker alignment , cant remember to tell us which HDMI version it is, ....on ANY of his reviews. He doesn't give nearly enough info to make a decision. His reviews are fluff, to try to make money from youtube. WEAK!
Don't buy it, wait longer for updates on the hinges. Lenovo Legion products are notorious for bad hinges just like the scandal with the Legion 7 and 7i from last year.
Normally if it had been released in March we would have gotten a Summer Sale. I don’t think that the first Of this year there is going to be a Summer Sale. The next sale will be probably Black Friday.
Bro I want this. I have a Lenovo Y700 with a 4gb 960M. It actually still runs great for everyday task but can barely do 1080P in modern games. If I can flip it for a few coin I may get this. Great review!
I love how Matthew is super honest in his reviews...he doesn't cover up the flaws of a "good laptop" and that I can appreciate. I would buy this laptop if I had the US$1,900. The screen is really a compelling reason to get it.
It actually boosts up to 140w :) Great review Matt, mine arrived last week and it’s outstanding. In balanced mode it’s cooler and runs almost just as fast.
@@chirag_ performance mode ups the cpu tdp to mid 70w instead of 45, youll notice this in some cpu intensive games, in anything else it wont really matter because it rarely tdp throttles anyways
@@donavanmoore247 I live in France, i bought mine for 1430€ (1741$) for the 32gb ddr4, R5800,H, RTX 3070 model. It's out off stock all across europe, we can still get the base Legion 5 with the 3060 for 1380$. I pre ordered mine and have to wait until mid august to receive it, that's a looong time...
I bought it in March and it's my first gaming laptop. I am very happy with it, totally worth the price. One downside is the 512 Go storage which is not a lot.
@@smumais I don't play warzone, I would recommend to pay more for this laptop with QHD rather than less for one with FHD if you play without a monitor. With QHD you really get a clearer picture, I can really see the difference in game on Hell let loose. But it depends also if you connect to a monitor all the time, then maybe you don't need QHD
@@HydraStar01 Hi, loud yes as any other gaming laptop, when I plug in my headset I don't hear the fan The keyboard does not feel hot even in performance mode on high graphic settings
Always a big issue when power throttle kicks in, especially if you wanna use such Notebook for VR. You need constantly the full power to get high frame rates the 3070 is capable of. Keep that in mind if you look for a notebook for VR. Tools like MSI Afterburner can help to not hit power throttle, but most importantly you need a proper cooling solution where many providers struggle today.
I would love to buy one now, but it's been "coming soon" since mid april. Lenovo is taking there sweet time bringing these to market. Good review though, I agree about the display. I would have bought something else already, but you can't get those specs and that display in any other machine to my knowledge.
For this laptop specifically? The repaste I’ve seen for this current 5 pro have gotten identical temps to stock but quicker cool down during freq drops, I guess improved thermals in that regard but not peak temps
@Amél I haven't seen any indications of this laptop throttling too much under stock thermal paste and expected temps, it runs as hot as expected in my optinion for the performance. If not, there is that mux switch option to run on discrete graphics if you want pure productivity. From some videos I've watched, 5800H runs in comarison practically with a 3700x desktop in a mobile cpu which is insane. I haven't seen any complaints about keyboard or physical laptop getting concerningly hot, just noisy fan speeds on peak, which is expected.
@@Andy-ie3wj the pastejob on mine wasn't great. Card would only hit about 77 degrees under load. But after repaste ik would stay around 74. I used MX-5 and turned hybrid mode off.
@Amél it runs cooler than my previous 2080 laptop, so no complaints. CPU can hit the high 90s which is somewhat new to me coming off intel. Was able to those down a little more with mx-5.
3 degrees is still substantial, couldn’t see any improvements from the videos of repasting I watched but saw the caked on TP from factory which looked horrid.
Important questions to Canadian folks: For how much Legion 5 Pro will be sold in Ontario? I'm assuming $1250 CAD for RTX3060, considering that the USD price is $999? Will appreciate the response, thanks.
Just got my NON Pro Legion 5 today in UK. It's a 5800H with RTX 3070. I'm not bothered with QHD or RGB lighting as will be using an external monitor anyway . I think it is better value and looks better than the Pro. For 'content creation' I can use my MacBook Pros.
It's really good,I don't have it but I'm saving up for one I want my first laptop/Computer to feel awesome and last for a long time so I'm hoping the Legion 5 Pro will be a good one!
Thanks for thinking about developers! I mainly use my laptop for Machine Learning in Python/R, but I also want to play Apex Legends with my bros on a Friday night. I believe this laptop might be perfect for someone like me :D
Waiting desperately for the 'Stingray White' version to be released. Damn, i would even go for the 5i Pro (Intel) in order to get that stunning white. Don't know what the ... takes Lenovo so long. For whatever strange reason it's not been out yet.
4:15 - "this is probably the exact same webcam they've been using for the past *450* years" I didn't know they have webcams during the Renaissance era.
Hey Matt great video! I was just curious if you'd ever get round to reviewing the Zephyrus Duo SE, as very few have reviewed it at this point. I'd argue that, despite it being 16:9 it still offers productivity bonuses equal or more than that of the legion 5 pro thanks to the dual screen. Cheers!
Hey Mathew, Hope you are well.. I'm planning to buy legion 5 pro 2021 model will it be a perfect pick for 2022? Or should i wait for the new generation processors
It makes more sense to buy the normal legion 5 if u are not going to be doing photo/video/graphics editing work. As for me I need to empty my pockets cause I need tht screen. Sigh!
I ordered this laptop and I'm sooo excited (the version I ordered has 32 gigs of RAM, RTX 3060 and the Intel Core I7-11800H, which are good enough for content creation which is what I'm getting it for.) The laptop I'm typing this on is also a Lenovo Legion (the Y530) and it has been a trooper through me doing 2D design and motion graphics every day and then learning, modeling and rendering 3D. I just had to get another Lenovo. You get so much value for way less than Acer or Dell or HP. The two laptops I had before it were HP's and they were a nightmare. Insane heat, body wasn't very resilient and broke on me, I'd try to open them one day and the hard disk would refuse to boot and turns out it's randomly broken (I hadn't pumped it or anything and this happened multiple times.) The cheaper Lenovos are miles ahead.
Hey man Need some advice here. How does the legion hold up these days for you? Any hinge issues of any kind, or any other problem you faced? I'm at the very edge of making a purchase desicion, and with the budget that I've got, I'm looking at either the legion 5 pro variant mentioned in this video, which is now 2 years old, and the 2022 Zephyrus G15 which is the last years model. I'm a casual user. Not going too hard on the content creation aspect. I wanna game on something reliable and something that'll satisy without any issues whatsoever, and I fear the Zephyrus might end up under performing cuz its a thin laptop. They do have dynamic boost for the zephyrus but users have said that the CPU gets only like 10W of power and that can cause stutter in that regard. What would you advice me to go for mate? I'm gonna end up paranoid if it goes on like this💀
Hey man been watching you're reviews ، i have a ga502 it's an ok laptop and haven't had any problems with it،but only because the laptop feels warm and is not pleasant to use on lap even kinda burning at times،i want to return it،i really wanted tp buy legion but at the end the thing you said about keyboard temp really killed it for me، also fan noise drives me crazy at times which is also the problem i have with my current laptop،so what laptop do you recommend even if it is at cost of compromising some power. I've heard good reviews from Omen but heard has loud noise،what do you think?
Any idea what the pricing will be on these, or when we will know? I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on an Omen, but I'm very attracted to the idea of a 16x10 screen. Will there be a version in the $1500 range?
Did you play 1440p all the game? Is there any much difference between 1080 p and 1440p? I bought the 1080p version as I couldn't find this one With 3070 of course
Hi Matthew, do you think the Lenovo Legion 5 pro Ryzen 7 5800h 3060gpu still a good buy at $1800, laptop prices here are crazy in our country. Or should i go for nitro 5 ryzen 9 5900hx 3070 which is $200 cheaper?
Which is better Legion 5 pro or Rog Strix G15 2021 Ryzen 9 variant. Your answer will be a great help for my decision, I'll use it for architectural works
"Coming Soon" AMD is going to lose a lot of sales - because the Ryzen chips availability will make people just go for the Intel based laptops now. Pity. But cannot wait any longer.
@@directlinkrexx4409 Got a Tongfang branded as "Wootware" in South Africa. Ryzen 5800H and RTX 3070 laptop. Reasonably priced compared to the big brand names.
@@glenmosier8644 From the name I'd assume he's from India & in India we don't have any 1660Ti options from Legion, or even any other brands. & a 3060 is a bit too costly, so the 3050 is the budget option while being decently good compared to the older 1650. Indian PC market is a bit effed up fyi...XD
This definitely is one of the very best gaming laptops you can get, all things considered. But I will say that as long-time Lenovo Thinkpad user, the keys on the Legion feel mushier and cheaper than the T-series laptops. This actually wouldn't be a big deal on a work laptop, but on a gaming laptop, I'm afraid the cheaper-feeling keys are going to break much sooner. I had a Legion 5 5800h/3060 that I returned because the 6GB video memory was not enough for some games using ultra settings, even at 1080p, and the heat build-up Matthew mentions below the P key was actually distracting. My favourite game doesn't just use the 'WASD' keys, it also uses the up-down-left-right cursor and Enter keys, and because of that heat build-up, I found my fingertips were getting a little toasty, to the point that I started using the number pad Enter key instead of the main Enter key, to avoid that heat. Now, I have to find something else with a great refresh rate screen, great keyboard/keys, MUX switch, reasonable temps AND the quietest possible cooling with a Ryzen 5000-series CPU and either a 3070 or 6600m/6700m/6800m 8+ GB GPU. I might just go with a 17" laptop to find less heat/noise, too.
I don't know if it's because of the component shortage but I feel like this is happening all the time now. A lot of the Samsung laptops aren't available. And of course a ton of phones: xioami, realme, OPPO, Lenovo, redmi, etc...

I ordered this laptop tonight in the US. for $1950 (before tax). The only different spec I noticed from this review was that it has 2 TB of SSD storage which I was super happy to see!
I want to buy this Laptop used the next days. I'm a casual gamer and like to play some games on high settings to see the beauty of the games. Is it still a good gaming Laptop? It is going to be my first gaming experience on PC/ Laptop. I also have a steam deck but i doesn't count in my opinion. Thanks for your help
I bought the Legion 5p ( 2020) and after two weeks the right side of the plastic bezel is starting to pop out... So disappointing. Though I haven't given up on lenovo and wish to buy this model when I get refunded, just 1 question, is the hinge made out of plastic or metal?
