ROG Ally vs. Legion Go: Which Gaming Handheld is Better?
In this video, we compare the ROG Ally and Legion Go, two of the most popular gaming handhelds on the market. We take a look at their specs, features, and performance, and run a series of game benchmarks to see which one comes out on top.
I just compare a handful of games in this video those being Borderlands 3, Mortal Kombat 1, Cyberpunk 2077, Tomb Raider.
Hope you enjoy!

I am getting a pop up from RU-vid that this video is taking longer then expected to process. It is a 4K video so if the resolution is low just watch it and enjoy or wait for it to process fully 😂 THANK YOU FOR EVEN CONSIDERING WATCHING MY VIDEO 🎉

There is something wrong with Cyberpunk benchmark as I'm getting 49 FPS at 1080p on DF optimised settings (higher than medium) on rog ally.

Because the ally is stronger the go have a problem with ultra 4k settings when the ally can run ultra at at mid setting maybe even high ally can put perform Xbox and ps5 when dock on a xg Mobile graphics card or even a desktop graphics card

That really is a beautiful size screen on the Go, and I love the 16:10 aspect ratio, I didn't expect the Go to be up to 50% higher FPS, but that's awsome to see, it should have enough juice to run pretty much any game @ 120hz & FPS, and those which need it, you can use exactly 2x 800p for a nice line doubled 1600p, I would much rather have smooth 120hz via 2x 800p than 60hz 1600p, and on a screen under 10" it's very hard to tell the difference, if at all. With 120hz, BFI also becomes an option, which RetroArch already has a really well optimized BFI algorithm built in, 120hz allows for nice smooth 60hz/FPS games with much nicer motion clarity, and you only need to run games @ 60 FPS with 120hz BFI, with BFI and line-double mode you can really squeeze a whole lot more performance out of the APU, I would really like Lenovo to release a firmware level BFI update and incorporate it into their overlay software, as well as a simple line-double option. One thing is for sure, the Lenovo Go, thanks to the 16:10 screen being so 4:3 friendly and having 120hz making 60hz BFI available, is hands down the best emulation handheld we have ever had to date, that screen will look amazing with BFI and scanlines, making the most authentic retro experience on a handheld we have ever had available before now, the 1600p RGB-IPS display is really nice for using CRT shaders, I can't wait to set up Batorcera on a Legion Go with a nice Sony Trinitron shader and 60hz BFI, everything from 8/16-Bit systems, up to the OG Xbox will look amazing, the only improvement would be a 240hz Super AMOLED (RGB-Stripe), the higher the PPI the better, thanks to line multiplication higher resolution/PPI displays are really beneficial for IQ, though a 120hz 1600p Super AMOLED would be enough, even better than 16:10 would be 3:2, I'd love to see a 3:2 Super AMOLED handheld one day.

@AlyxAugust
@AlyxAugust 10 месяцев назад
honestly I think a huge difference for me is the thumb-sticks if you’re going to play with them the Ally hands down, it has way smoother more accurate sticks out of the box. Performance wise you can tweak the Ally to run better by bringing the wattage up if you’re on a charger or something and if you go even lower on resolution to like 720p. I would pick based off how you plan to play like is the FPS mode on the Go a big deal to you?

I don't think this comparison is fair because Ally was at 900p but with Legion Go at 800p.. That will be the reason for higher FPS with Legion Go... It would be correct to compare Ally at 720p (16:9) and Legion Go at 800p (16:10)... :)
@Wobble2007
@Wobble2007 10 месяцев назад
But the Go has to render more vertical resolution vs the Ally, so setting the 16:9 a little higher balances it out for a closer line count, so 900p 16:9 vs 800p 16:10 is about right. Maybe 1366x768 vs 1280x800 would be more balanced thinking about it, but it shouldn't make a huge difference in showing performance difference between the two, if one is a better performer by a good margin it will show.

@@Wobble2007No, you are wrong in my opinion. It would be 720p vs 800p, and 1080p vs 1200p. No sane person and I’m shocked reviewer is agreeing with this. These are plus resolutions (HD vs HD Plus, FHD vs FHD+).
@Wobble2007
@Wobble2007 10 месяцев назад
@@zacthegamer6145 It's not an opinion thing, it's simple pixel count, both resolutions equal 1 megapixel, 1,024,000 and 1,049,088 pixels to be exact, that is a fair and balanced resolution comparison.
@zacthegamer6145
@zacthegamer6145 10 месяцев назад
@@Wobble2007720p is equivalent to 800p and 1080p is compared to 1200p when rendered at 16:10. Why is 1200p called FHD plus or 1600p QHD plus then? Keep your pixel count numbers to yourself as those can go either way if you multiply equivalent 720p and 1080p numbers. These are what these resolutions are called, with 720p and 1080p (16:9) resolutions equivalent to 16:10 resolutions at 800p and 1200p. This is not my opinion anymore but industry wide accepted fact!

I seen a video by the Phawx, where they had a graph showing the best settings for the apu and it showed that setting thermal to performance and the os power mode set to efficiency. According to their graph, at tdp above 20, instead of leveling out and flat lining, in efficiency os power mode the performance still gaining at good. I don't have one yet to test this though

Something about setting the os power mode to efficiency, gives less power to cpu and more to the gpu and actually showed the best performance at all tdp wattage to set it like that. I seen it on video called Lenovo Legion Go - The Definitive Quick Look by The Phawx at about 5:30 seconds into video

What is the TDP on “Performance mode” on the go? I thought that is the highest mode on that handheld. On the Ally performance mode is 15W I believe that 15w TDP is “balanced” mode on the go.
@AlyxAugust
@AlyxAugust 10 месяцев назад
Performance mode on the Go is 20w I believe, so yea there is a 5w difference. The issue with this was 20w would just be too unrealistic for the Ally at that rate it would melt the battery even in a simple benchmark. I guess I could’ve tried to bring the Go down to 15W but then at that point one is running its balanced mode and the other is running its performance mode. I tried to keep it relative since the Go does have a bigger battery it makes sense it’s performance mode would have a higher wattage. I do still think for a 5W difference for the Ally to have only 10fps less on the first two games is extremely impressive!

I appreciate your commentary. I’ve been contemplating returning the Legion Go for the ROG Ally, specifically because some games, much like tomb raider, open in a weird format. I’m not sure this could be fixed with software updates; just sad we were promised a landscape display and got a portrait display. Then I remember the SD card reader issue, the screen, etc, and I want to keep the Legion Go. This is tough…

Does the legion go ever have letterboxing/ black bars in games? That’s why I hated owning the steam deck because of his 16x10 screen
@Wobble2007
@Wobble2007 10 месяцев назад
You just need to set the aspect to 16:10 in the game options, or if it's one of the very few 16:9 only games, just use GPU scaling to make it full screen, you won't be able to tell the difference, all in all, a 16:10 display is massively better than a 16:9 display, thanks to the much larger vertical pixel size, also 4:3 games look much nicer thanks to 16:10 having an equal vertical ratio, and given how fantastic the Steam Deck is for emulation, most of which consists of 4:3 games, 16:10 is an important requirement, Emu Deck is awsome and another reason why the Steam Deck is such a great handheld, it emulates everything from the first ever console made to the Nintendo Switch, not that I personally emulate current gen systems, only systems that are considered classic, 15 year or more old.
