Great comment! I also agree. My 90s castles and Forestmen sets may not be the greatest ever designed, but because they remind me of when I was a kid, recreating the movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves with my sister, they will remain a favorite forever.
My mom kept most of my vintage legos in bins so it's been fun finding pieces to all these sets and slowing compiling them back and building these older sets back up. Found the bade plate and bridge yesterday!
I wish I was into lego as a kid/ teenager and young adult.. these sets are so good looking but expensive now. I had to get into lego so late in life, thanks mom and dad lol. Great video and review. Thank you
I do hope you can get a few Adventurers set. I've got a lot of bits and pieces from bulk lots. There were just so many kits produced that there are a lot still floating around out there. It's these bigger kits which are unfortunately still quite rare and expensive.
Adventurers is my all time favorite theme, ive been searching the after market for these for the last year or so and haven't found any deal I could justify paying the high price for. Still the best original LEGO theme.
As you mentioned, the colors are beautiful and really do represent the colorful nature of most native Latin American culture. 😀 this is one of my dream sets.
It's a good one - I would highly recommend! If you're looking for a cheaper alternative though, I think you'll get a lot of joy out of "Spider's Secret" from the same wave of sets
Unless I am mistaken, Lego doesn't make anymore of those awesome raised base plates. Everything now is BURP's, MURP's and LURP's. That's too bad, because raised base plates are just incredible structures to build on. Very nice Caleb.
I wanna say Pharaoh's Quest in 2011 was the last time we saw a raised baseplate, used quite effectively there. Now as a MOC builder, I prefer building up my own terrain with bricks, but as a kid, my brother and I loved having the raised baseplates. I remember we even built our first Christmas village on top of the raised baseplate from Ogel's Mountain Fortress!
The K-Mart in my city went out of business in 1999 or 2000, and my family bought a bunch of Lego sets at a steep discount. Amazon Ancient Ruins was one we got for me, and Pharaoh's Forbidden Ruins for one of my younger brothers. I swapped my Johnny's hands with Achu's gloves, partly so we could tell whose was whose more easily and because I thought it brought Achu closer to looking naked and therefore funny. (I swapped Achu's pelvis with the yellow pelvis off some Space figure or another for the same reason). I still have that gray cooking pot and brown boat! They're both on my dining room table right now. I was also very into Castle and its subthemes, and noticed from catalog photos that King Leo's Castle used the same mold as the Amazon Ancient Ruins, so I built my best approximation of that castle with my existing parts from eyeballing it in the magazines. I still have the baseplate, and kinda want to rebuild the Amazon Ancient Ruins roughly as intended using my current collection.
Awesome set. I got all the small/cheaper adventurer sets when I was younger and I've been slowly getting the larger ones now that I'm older and can choose to be irresponsible with my money
Thank you! I've certainly fallen in love with the theme too. I was talking to a friend about maybe borrowing the balloon for a quick review too. Hopefully it works out!
Such a beautiful set! I love old sets that actually included baseplates, they just feel 10x more complete than todays playsets. I don't own any Jungle Adventurers, but my 5988 definitely my favourite vintage set :D Keep up the great videos!
I remember being given this set in used condition back when I was a kid. I was too little to build the temple according to the instructions, but this set was a goldmine of awesome pieces to use for my own builds. Sometimes I still find a few exclusive pieces to this set while digging for parts in my bins, and was surprised to see parts that I usually just rummage passed go for so much. Knowing that, I still don’t think I’d ever sell them, though. The minifigures and treasures in this set were so cool to me. I think my favorite piece of all was the jumbo backpack of all things that you could put stuff inside... either that, or the movie camera. - Noah
Those old backpacks were great. I had one in blue from a Spider-Man set as a kid. It belonged to a criminal, and you could steal and hide gems in it 😂 Great times
@@CheeseyStudios you bet, and I remember having the box too over the years, many of it was lost or damaged so I bought another without a box and am making much more effort to keep it in good condition now
I only grew up with newer LEGO sets from 2003 onwards, but also with Lego Racers 1 and 2. It's so nice and somehow wild to see that the stuff in the games was real :D
I want this set so badly. I was still a bit too young for serious Lego building and collecting back when Adventurers was out, but I remember wanting these sets for sure.
I kinda missed out on these too and so sad that I did! I only ever remember seeing a few leftover Orient Expeditions kits on shelves in 2004, but had no idea what it was so very very young me never begged my parents for it, ha. These kits do tend to turn up in a lot of bulk lots though!
@@CheeseyStudios Yup, Orient Expedition was right on the cusp of when I started asking for and getting Lego as gifts. This Amazon Temple you got is an awesome find and in great condition too so I'll have to keep my eyes open for something similar! I'm still hoping that Lego will design a new theme like Adventurers. I mean, Pharaoh's Quest was close, but that didn't last very long.
This was always a great looking kit, when I wasa kid I always wished we could afford to buy it. I loved the Advebtures theme and can remember playing the Johnny Thunder games on the Lego games website. Me and my sister made some good memories trying to beat the temple and mountain climbing levels.
Bro always hits us with the trivia on the sets and the pieces in the set. That’s I think why these videos hit different. Well that along with the filmmaking
Really great reviews ! Glad i discovered your channel , your reviews are very well done ,detailed and your personal touch and opinion is often similar to mine regarding the discussed topic. Also the production quality and the beautiful set really set this channel apart from others
This was my biggest set i had in my childhood, played a lot with it. I lost the tyres of the car and some other elements, but i still have the baseplate, the boat and most of it
I had this set as a kid. Having previously built the Flying Ninja Fortress (at least as far as I can remember), I was a little relatively underwhelmed by the build, but loved the play features. This one's definitely more of a playset than anything, but knowing LEGO's target demographic that isn't a bad thing.
I only learned about the set a few years ago - the jungle and dino Adventurers subtheme certainly flew a bit under the radar compared to Egypt and Orient Expedition!
I love that the older sets have those big wide green bricks they look so cool but to be honest I probably wouldn’t use them lol I would use some little bricks and plates as a little mound in the ground.
As cool as those big plate are, something custom will definitely always look better. I do wonder if we'll ever get raised baseplates again - it's been quite a few years now!
I always felt like the jungle subtheme has some great detailed builds and also some juniorized builds. It’s a wierd blend between Desert and Dino Island
I really enjoy this subtheme's aesthic too. The 90's photoshop is certainly not great, but the art all around the box is still incredibly charming and playful. The character design for this time was truly awesome - everyone is so distinct!
Great video, thanks! Would love to see more adventurers from you-but also, I think it’d be cool for you to do a big MOC re-imagining of the jungle subtheme!
I'd love to take this style and blend it with modern bricks! A lot of themes have been inspiring me to do that - but this one more than any other really seems to fit my style. It might just happen! Thanks for the suggestion!
i have this set!!! i got it for my 10th birthday when it released and i still have it to this day. the platform got snapped in half but i used blue tape to keep it together.
I can't believe I was gifted this set.... I absolutly enjoyed it... Alpha Team was another I really collected, and they were amazing. Oh and the characters of this set were some of the opponents in the Lego Racer video game...
I have around 80% of this set from a garage sale, including the baseplate. Now I just need to figure out something interesting to build on this base, since this temple feels quite lackluster.
I’ve had Gabaros’ torso alongside some of my other torso pieces for a while, glad to know where it came from! Must’ve came in some bulk a while ago. Great review!
Everybody says Anubis Temple is the best Adventurers flagship lego but actually its THIS. I am proud owner of this baby since 1999. Just compare Anubis Temple and Ancient Ruins. In BL Amazon Ruins is 600usd and there is no NEW SEALED.The raised baseplate is extremely rare and important lego vintage piece
@@CheeseyStudios Yup and its very clever design. Raising footprint and mass by single large mold. My Ancient Ruins is next to Rivendell and with 400 piece count its still look huge 😅
If LEGO re-released Adventurers with updated designs, I'd lose so much money. These sets are beautiful but they have untapped potential. With the mechanical/aesthetic genius that designers have now, it'd be great to see this theme with a fresh coat of paint
so, this set is basically the Temple of doom bridge scene, which Lego SHOULD have done for Lego Indiana Jones, but, we technically have it with this. and I wanna get this now. classic set
@@CheeseyStudios Sadly no. All of my older lego sets from when I was younger were sold off on garage sales we had by my parents. :( I wish I still had a lot of my older sets.
@@CheeseyStudios Yea, As kid I really enjoyed them. As adult I wish that they were still apart of Lego. It really feels like the whole thing is complete.
You guys are so creative well presented for such a small channel! I look forward to more of your videos! Keep up the good work! (PS: You ever get the chance to review any more Adventurers or Orient Expedition sets, I will be watch in a heartbeat!)
Thank you so much! Glad you ran across the channel. It's a lot of work for sure, but great fun to put these together. I've got two Orient Expedition reviews in the works. One will be dropping in a few weeks I imagine, the other hopefully April May!
I can't tell what civilization this is supposed to be but I know for a fact that real Mayan Temples were initially very colorful. It's just due to them being abandoned for centuries that caused them to be grey. I remember hearing that some of them used to be a vibrant red.
As I am watching this video, a realization slowly dawns on me as he goes over exclusive expensive pieces, that I got many of these (baseplate, boat, pot…) in a bulk lot a couple years ago and me, being a bionicle guy, completely dismissed them when sorting and gave them away to my younger cousin… maybe I should check these things…
I definitely think those would sell so well and a huge missed opportunity by Lego. The want is there. The space and castle sets are great!! And I even thought for smaller sets to be redone with the older set included. Like a companion set! I just hope we get more BlackTron, m Tron, space police and ice planet!!!
@@CheeseyStudios They're out in the storage shed. I just saw a few sets from Forest, Dark CAstles, ...i never realized i had so many lego sets. check my Storage Shed videos. Those flying egyptians were my favorite
