@@bryanhamby4960 As someone who doesn’t have the Apollo rocket, I think the whole launch system is super cool, although I do understand why someone would want it to be the same scale
Hm, I thought it was gonna be bigger, but the size makes sense considering that it also features the whole launchpad . Still, Saturn V looks not only taller but much more detailed and pretty I think, and the build experience is probably better too (speaking about the rockets only of course). One detail that is an improvement on this rocket is the escape tower system apparently, nice!
i think the launch tower and all the umbilicals being movable make it a much more interesting build than if you were to get something that on the outside is largely another Saturn V. definitely not for me, but my brother already have the Saturn, so maybe i can tempt him to get it... ;)
@@CheeseyStudios we are pretty different people, but with a common love of Lego. and im pretty sure with unlimited budget he would be all over this set. so i think it is only fair that i make him aware of it at least lol. he dont follow new releases that closely.
@CheeseyStudios at first i was sad when i heard it wont scale with the Saturn 5 but the platform gives such an easier sense of scale. When you notice the doors and the elevator up top and the stairs, it really puts into perspective just how massive it is. Inna 2hay that the saturn 5 didn't quite achieve, unless you put the astronaut next to it
Seeing this set in leaked pictures before I was already shocked on how good it was. And seeing it now in ur review, I am even more impressed. Definitely would pick that set up to put along side my Saturn V!
@CheeseyStudios just looking at the dimensions, I thought it would look pretty silly, but I didn't realize that Saturn V would dwarf it THAT much. I've been considering getting all the tower pieces (with a bunch in red) and making a similar 160:1 or so scale MOC of Saturn V to display with the SLS set. I really am impressed by this LC-39 build. I'd just love to have one for an Apollo launch. And the more I think about it, I really like the idea of LC-39A and LC-39B displayed side by side but with a 5 decade time span between them!
I totally get why they scaled it down, but it unfortunately made some details really hard too look past imo, and the fact that almost all of those small details on SLS are stickers is such a bummer. relatively minor nitpicks tho, the rest of it looks great.
I wonder if 5 years or so down the line they'd give us just a standalone rocket honestly. If they continue to use it for the Artemis missions, I wouldn't be surprised!
@@CheeseyStudios Especially if the crewed lunar landings take place within or after that stretch of time. It would make a lot of sense to revisit SLS even after the first crewed landing of Artemis since starting with Artemis 4 (as currently planned), they'll retire the current second stage in exchange for another. All in all, SLS will be a little different by then both visually and internally.
I really like the very large sets where when someone sees it the say "wow cool lego!" then you can hit them with the "Yeah and it does *this*" and show some functionality to it, like the Concord's droop snoot.
First thing I thought while seeing them side to side: Why does the Saturn V not have a launch platform. That would make that set even more gigantic, but it would be sweet. Thanks for the video, short and sweet
@@CheeseyStudios I think that rocket is actually a lot closer to minifig scale. (true scale, not the smaller scale used in City) Still, sounds like a fun thing to see, I really have to go to some Lego convention some day.

This is one really fantastic looking rocket. Love the launch pad look. Definitely going to look nice alongside the other large space sets from the last couple of years.
This set having stickers is extremely embarrassing. Especially stickers like that, which will be horrible to properly apply. Absolutely a dealbreaker for me. I wont pay 260$ only to eventually end up with some cheap stickers that will look bad over time and seemingly partly dont even apply well.
The stickers on the conical piece is definitely not okay. Saw this earlier this year on the classic space GWP too. Not sure why LEGO is backtracking here
lets hope Lego will do some SpaceX rocket(s) like falcon 9 or falcon heavy, dragon capsule or even starship 🙃 or some ULA rockets like Atlas, Vulcan or the “delta” series..
When I saw the leaked pictures, I was convinced I was buying. But given the scale is soo different between the two, I don’t think ivwill. Will see if anyone has custom instructions for rocket at same scale, or custom myself.
Quite disappointing how puny it looks next to the Saturn V, especially given how much MORE it costs. I'd much rather have had the rocket be at the same scale as the Saturn, without the launch tower. It would be super awkward to display these next to each other, so I guess I'll be breaking my habit of buying every big NASA set that comes out, sadly.
IMHO the Saturn V is still one of the best LEGO sets of all time. Especially the diorama part and the possibility of simulating the transposition, extraction and docking maneuvers for the CSM and LEM add depth and educational value to an otherwise awesome and impressive set. A launch pad would have been great from the start and a no-brainer for LEGO to make profit off. The SLS/Artemis looks great, just a pity that so many of the decorations are achieved by stickers.
@@CheeseyStudios The original fan designer Felix Stiessen did a great job and the LEGO team made the right choices to not cut corners with stickers or lazy solutions.
The failure of LEGO to have released the launch tower for the Saturn V was a big fail on their part, as many of us bought MOC versions. Interesting in that they (LEGO) stated the Saturn V launch tower didn't meet their criteria for playability... and yet now they decided that a launch tower for this new set somehow makes sense. whisky tango foxtrot?
Even just in the past few years alone though, LEGO's own internal philosophies have changed dramatically. Play is no longer the top priority - profits are, and nothing makes profits better than adult-oriented display models :c
Crap, now I have to get this as well as get the sets to build the Saturn launch tower MOC. Or would LEGO just release this in 1:1 scale to Saturn V. Like SLS Ultra or sth. All rockets should be to scale, so they can be displayed side by side. Also, Flacon Heavy? Starship?
So many SpaceX projects keep making it to 10k supporters on Ideas, but they've always been denied. Doesn't look like LEGO will be pursuing those ones. Hopefully we get a bigger SLS or a smaller Saturn V at some point though!
Bit disappointing that there are no eastereggs or interesting interiors as with the other rocket that had all the launchers, satellites and tiny references and micro figures
There's a bit of that going on, but yeah, not nearly as much as the Saturn V. Even if they weren't accurate, a few nano fig astronauts would have been a fun inclusion!
@@CheeseyStudios To be fair, there was no crew on board, but there has to be some important people they could have made as exclusive figures to stand next to the set. I'm not that versed in NASA stuff, but if they did a Mars Rover rerelease of this sort, they should include "Mohawk Guy", one of the operators who turned into a massive meme and iconic media representative of this mission
A shame how many stickers there are...I actually quite like the size, even if it's not minifig scale. If anything, its more impressive with the part usage to get this accuracy with the smaller amount of pieces
I really wonder, why first reviewers are excited when there are so many downsides: the rocket's upper part has different shapes, stickers are just worth a sentence, ...
At this scale, I still think it makes for an incredible model. Definitely not perfect, but there's a lot to love. Been looking for something like this since the Saturn V!
@@CheeseyStudios yes, but the stickers on a display model, 18+, are just wrong and need to be critized more. They're simply a pain in the ass to apply, won't last long on a curved shape, and look horrible with different colors and especially the gap on "N_AS_A". Also if you're a fan of (the) space craft(s) you realize that the upper part could be built better to match the shape of the real model. The ideas sets did that.
I just don’t like how long the white part is at the top. I wonder if it could look more accurate if one of the segments were removed to make it shorter?
The entirety of the SLS set has 3601 pieces, and the Saturn V has 1969. The single SLS rocket has significantly fewer - it might even be less than a thousand.
omg a block-accurate Mine in the background though he didn't do the slanted and curved rails like I did on mine :) (I did make mine digitally though so he gets extra points for real pieces)
Great video I love this set, I've wanted this rocket in Lego like this for a while It would have been interesting if the set would have been just the rocket but the same scale as the Saturn V The launch pad is cool though Some stuff should be printed instead of stickers, but otherwise its great
