as a kid, i only had lego batman on the ds and assumed it was the only version of the game., played it for hours with my brother as a kid, and still think its the better version when it comes to artstyle. theres just something about the more cel shaded artstyle of the game that makes me love it (seriously, the cathedral levels just look so good in that version!
"I also suspect some of the people who went down this pipeline also realised they were a woman" OKAY wow wasn't expecting a direct and accurate shot to my head like that
This, and lego star wars (the wii version) were the only games I had for a while. And then when I found out that the console version of lego batman was different, I just assumed there was a more "ds" like port out there that I couldn't find, and a more "wii" like one on the ds, that I also couldn't find
9:08 I don't know why but I always liked how scarecrow dipped immediately but joker stayed there for a few seconds I don't know why I just really liked that
I think Lego Batman was one of the first games I remember playing. The first Lego game for sure. I didn't know enough English as a kid to understand what "Load game" meant, so every time I opened the game I had to start all over again. I lost count of how many times I beat up Clayface. (Also, i was afraid of Batman's red suit because I thought it was the devil)
This game, in any version, was so great for giving everyone very specific and nostalgic memories. And I can see it; the red batsuit would look very Devilish, even before accounting for the heat abilities.
i remember when they had scribblenauts cross over with the dc comics the first mission you are given being to subdue zsasz felt really bizarre since that is also another e10 kids game even if somebody like him is really weak compared to somebody with god like reality warping powers like maxwell, seeing the little self harm scars on a character in games like these just makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside tbh
@@pout6038 Yeah. Fuck JK Rowling, her magic sucks ass, and that's coming from a guy who thinks magic is badass. Well, not from TERF wizard books. That's why I love games that let you Spellcraft. Also because you can do stupid shit like "Jump into the heavens without a parachute"
To give you all an idea of what the DS Harry Potter games are like -Years 1 to 4: Isometric 3D with 3D models (like the GBA lego Star Wars games). The main gameplay occur on the touch-screen while the top screen is the map. You do the spells by brawing simbols and Wingardium Leviosa is part of those spells. Also, has minigames were you have to follow a spark through gears with the stylus, or the potion making minigame for exemple. - Years 5 to 7: More like the standard DS Lego Games affair (full 3D, uses top screen for the gameplay with the bottom screen for the character switching and the spell selection). I don't remember all of the details (been years since I played), so feel free to bring precisions/correction to my points. Good luck on Lego Batman 2 (if it ever happens)!
Spot on. Handheld HP 5-7 is essentially the structure of the earliest Lego titles; Hogwarts is just a hub akin to the Batcave or the Mos Eisley Cantina instead of being fully explorable like its big sister port, not even having individual doors for all levels, so it’s technically small even by standards like THIS handheld port. Levels are pretty decent, though, and the dueling club has some novelty for a while, but definitely gets redundant with the sheer number of characters to duel.
it’s subjective. that’s like me saying i enjoyed cat in the hat for GBA over the PS2 version when they’re different games with the same if not similar story
This game is most likely based on the Batman animated series but with inspiration from the original Batman movies in reversed order, but the characters' costumes were actually based on their comic counterparts while Harley Quinn, Two-Face, Mr. Freeze and Clayface look more reassemble from the animated show, except Killer Moth who never appear in the show
It's interesting to me that the characters who don't have a official lego minifigure look different from their console versions. There must of been a very limited sense of coordination between the two teams besides a general story outline
Do it! That one's fascinating, because the PSP version of Lego Star Wars 2 is actually VERY close to just being the console version anyway. The only differences were some textures and some bonus content from the first game, since The Complete Saga never made it onto the PSP.
I had lego pirates on my ds and that was the only version I had of that game. I also had lego clone wars and lego ninjago battles when I was a kid. The memories from playing those games man
you talking about the lego to arkham to comics pipeline called me out way too hard (including the figuring out a youre a woman part lol) also the rowling callout was incredibly based
33:39 Actually, I believe the Scarface piece is the old "microfigure" mold that was used in many of the old Lego board games, but I could be mistaken The new microfigure mold is more akin to an actual mini figure, while the old one looks more like a 1x1 brick with minifigure attributes, like a head and molded leg separation Scarface himself actually has arms on his piece too in this game, making him look more akin to the new baby minifigure mold, although this game was made like, a decade and a half before the minifigure baby was made
@@BaneShake Oh really? My bad then, thanks for letting me know Edit: the game came out in 2008, and the first microfigure was released in July 2009, in set 3838 - "Lava Dragon" (a board game)
No worries! You’re definitely spot-on with the observational details. Shame we still haven’t gotten a real physical minifigure to know how Lego would do him for real. My custom physical version uses a Nexo Knights robot frame to have decent proportions/means of gun holding.
I was, and pretty much still am, a very casual fan of Batman (perhaps one day i might take this interest further). But I had lego batman 1 for the wii, and it was an absolute icon of my childhood. I remember being mind blown that the villians had a whole campaign. It always felt like a secret extra game, like I was getting a whole other experience that I wasn't expecting. And I adored its sequel too which, at 10 years old, served as one of the first open world games I ever played. I think that both games will forever have a special place in my heart that few other games will ever be able to rival.
Can recommend you do! I love hearing your experience. Every version of this game is special to me, and the sequel was groundbreaking for the entire franchise (and was amazing too!)
As a kid I only ever played my Brother's Version of it. Thing is, he ALSO had the PS3 version, but I willingly played the DS version for some reason and even finished it
I had reasons enough to watch the indy video and this one considering I grew up with them, didn’t grow up with the Harry Potter ds games tho, but considering the intro, I think I’d pass on that video either way lol
My first ever video game was Lego Indiana Jones for the DS. I played it until ot stopped working and then I got another copy and played it until my DS stopped working
I grew up with the this version and only played the demo on the home console/pc version of Lego Batman 1. I was a dumb child who couldn't get far in this game, and I had to get the game again several years ago to show up my younger self. I only played the hero story I think, but I still have that copy so one day I may do the villian side of the story.
Glad I nailed it for ya! It appeared rather intuitive the way you have it set, so when it first popped up, it clicked right away. Thanks again for your support!
Ah this version. I wound up playing this one far more than the console, mostly because I was able to bring it with me when we we were out of the house. A key memory of mine is unlocking Firefly and finding their design to be awesome, then a little disappointed they weren't on the console version. Made me probably one of the only peope to pog like nuts when Firefly ended up as a secondary character in DC3's plot.
LEGO Batman is one of my favourite Batman games on account of how well it blends different elements from different Batman interpretations. Also, the LEGO>Arkham>Comic pipeline is pretty accurate, it seems. Also also, LEGO Killer Moth *is* peak and I'm happy someone agrees.
it's been so long since i 100%d lego batman i completely forgot you don't actually fight bane as batman and robin in that because the level where you played as him throwing cops into space was one of the most fun ones in the game
Thanks! Tropical storm Helene has really thrown a lot of things off locally for me, and RU-vid gets really random about what it actually wants to share from my uploads.
Glad I had good timing! I was super amused to see bd1p also put up a Lego Batman video right around the timing of mine; apparently everyone had it on the brain!
Ive not heard of this version before, but it actually looks... really good for a DS game?? At least the environment art and still cutscenes in particular
Thanks! I wish I always had stuff ready this fast. This and Origins were both in the works for a while, and I’ve still been out of work following tropical storm Helene damage, so I just doubled down on making videos.
this game made me kinda dislike the ds for a bit because i had it and thought it was good until i got a psp with the same lego batman and it was just night and day and made me love the psp way more
The PSP port was so cool, since it was just the console game with very few compromises to make it work on the system. When I talked about Indy 2, that was actually a massive consideration of how the game would meet expectations, as the first PSP game was also the console version, but 2 was essentially the DS version.
4:50 just here to add my 'holy shit me too!' to the pile ty youtube algorithm, for somehow bringing us all here to collectively experience this callout
