Gotta say, this is a great idea. Made me realize how useless the ccbs torso, specifically the bigger sizes used by heros and xl sized heros, but the small protector sized torso is actually kinda useful. If I had a system like this, I would probably be using more parts. The ccbs torso is one of, if not the most unused parts in my collection, and they come with just about every set, so I got a bunch. Thought about cutting them up to make them more useful, but I'm not sure if I wanna go that far yet
Clipping around the axle was kind of done with the slizer/toa mata actual big hand piece things that pohatu had 2 of, did wonder why they didn't elaborate on that. My thought years ago would be to have a round the sxle connection, something that connects around them using a rubber clip, originally i thought a hinge and then something to pin in place but you want something standard as possible, fewest parts as possible, fewest thin points that move as possible,so i figured a rubber hinge that way it can flex to close. Degrades over time, but not that much sooner than by when plastic tends towards fragile and dry.
Honestly, it's a great idea. One thing i'd suggest is disconnecting the ball joints from the sides of the shoulder/hip pieces, and instead just have the center of the piece have axle bars of various lengths (or hell, even have those just use technic axles). that way, you can add ball joints as necessary without the need for lots of new parts.
I really want to, the only problem with this.is that a ball joint by itself is very prone to falling off an axle during use. If there was a way to lock the joint in place, then I'd be all for it! (I guess it's my system though lol, I can make them locking)
@@skybirdmakesYou could probably use the grey axels with the flat top at the end (idk the actual piece name) to keep the ball connections from falling off. That way you can use normal ball connections throughout the shoulder area without needing to design a new mold.
I believe LEGO actually already experimented with clipping onto the side of an axel with the throw bots head. It’s a really interesting connection, I’m surprised we never saw more of it
I like the use of bars, it could help to integrate these pieces to other systems apart from ccbs, having more versatile pieces that bridge between systems can allow to more variety and creativity
For the magenta piece, instead of having it clip around, perhaps it could be two identical pieces that would each resemble a ball piece split in half and peg together with something resembling a lightsaber bar or One of those smaller accessory connections then further secured by placing an armor piece or the like over top it.
I'd want it, but I'm poor and have no access to a 3D printer either. I would need a place/site/store that sells these parts already made. One idea for the magenta part is make it with a harder rubber so it can bioth give and grip without breaking.
wondering about the hollow pink technic ball that clips on the axle piece as shown here, how would armor put on this piece not just like... fall to one side, as it seems to be a pin connection going over an axle, that would be a loose connection no?
It's slightly different from a pin connection, it makes three point contact with an Axle with a slight amount of tension, it's based on Lego minifig wrenches, which can connect to an axle at a 45° angle
If those were real Legos, I would buy as many as I could. I’m not a fan of the single piece torsos, I wish Lego had given us the option to build the torsos the way we want. That way, my Toa would look different than someone else’s.
Severally overengineered, this is noce for speculation "what would be best for adult nerds" but you completely forgot that it needs to factor in price, ease of construction and durability during play, it's for children first, for us second. Clip on ball joints are a bad idea and removing balljoint in the crotch with no alternate annoys me.
