Funny to think that this is the SAME price as the school. But the differences are just so stark. And it does show that the school could, and should, have been done so much better on the same budget.
A 70 dollars LEGO CITY Police Station?! With almost 700 Pieces and with genuinely good builds and minifigs?! This is great! Could've it been better? Yes! But for LEGO CITY Standards... This is great!
The old style of lego city is still by far the most interesting and popular. I still remember how interesting every effort and minute details made for every before this year.
I'm not really into police themed ANYTHING, but this IS a well designed set-- there's a LOT going on with it WITHOUT the car, and it all kind of backs up around the very well placed parking area with some action in the side areas as well, there's just a good amount to this and it's all well placed.
You know why this set is good? Because it incorporates the plates in good way and actually have everything you want for Police set. I will not get it but will build myself that beautiful garabage truck for sure!
Man, this takes me right back to the 2008 police station (one of my first "large" sets). I don't think it's quite so good, but all the right elements are there. I can remember adding my own helipad to that set since it didn't have one.
I actually love the new road plate system, because I don't like the older out-of-system baseplates that weren't exactly the height of one plate. A little extra cost is worth the peace of mind and simplicity in getting my LEGO city standardized.
This set looks very nice and clean and kind of realistic from the outside, the inside is a bit lacking but I like there are no big play features that you can very clearly see are playfeatures. I also like that kids can imagine the parking lot as big or small as they want, also that there are no restrictions for the size/amount of police vehicles or impounded crook vehicles.
Gotta say I am not a fan of this whole downsizing but LEGO seems to emphasise cars much more than buildings - the police car looks great, the garbage truck is a super smart way to breakout but the police station itself is barely half of mine from 2020 I believe. I'm just a fan of garages, so I am really missing it here. Not a big fan of the new helicopter design either but I guess that's up for taste.
The white poles the dog runs through are known as a slalom. I find it absolutely riotous that to break off the prison wall you basically rip out the entire plumbing, probably the most unique toilet humor I've seen from LEGO in a while. And what a great little garbage truck, even if its functionality is just a little bit lacking. The box is also hilariously oblong, and more so for how square the actual footprint is.
The green criminal character is a named character in the show, and goes with the ice cream truck chase set. His name is truck, making the trio of criminals “ice, cream, and truck”
The construction is reminding me of those late 90s sets, full of huge wall pieces. While I have no personal interest in City sets in general, I do think this prison set turned out far more interesting overall than some of the previous ones. Great review as always!

You're right about the Crook being named in the show. They probably didn't name him in the set because they'd have to justify why his name is Truck though.
I feel this is much better than I originally thought it would be. It looks different, has some fun details, and while it is smaller and quite a bit cheaper than earlier police stations, I actually don't think you lose any play value compared to those. And for typical play sets, that's a good thing, bigger isn't always better for those.
Your thumbnails looks nostalgic, like the one you made from 2013 and up and it looks awesome, though i wish and i hope your jazz background music goes back 😁😁
This is an amazing set for the price :) sadly the building part is small, but the extra street plates make up for it. I'd most likely try to expand the building with some spare bricks I've lying around. Seems fun to have!
I wish they made station sets this cheap when I was growing up lol. Personally don't really like the look of it, but I think it's a good set for kids to play with
I don't think this set is bad, but I think it gets better if you look at it as a sort of courtyard with the barrier leading to the outside world. If the road plate is an outside driveway, the prison feels more like a zoo and the dog training area has no security. If the dog decides to run, that's it.
I miss some of the earlier City police sets from 10-15 years ago. However this is a much better set that the last station which cost $30 more. I think children will be very happy with the set. I just wish the garbage truck was a #20-30 set and separate because I really like it. I don't ever count for inflation because pieces were better made 30 years ago. When LEGO gets back that quality then we can talk.
Probably the least secure prison area ever. A tree right next to the wall so that the prisoners can easily climb out, and an open back to the cell. I wish it had a removable wall at least, something to make it seem more enclosed.
I had the police station from 2010 I think. It seems much more substantial than this. It seems like Lego City has been really cut back over the years in terms of scale and complexity. Despite this, the series seems to be focusing now on really weird and niche areas of what could be defined as "city". And the sets seem to have gotten less grounded in reality.
With the new road plates (especially as implemented as a driveway in this set) along with an increase in greenery across the range, LEGO CITY has recaptured the charm of classic 80s Town sets for me. I'm convinced today's kids will appreciate having a more complete scene as much as I did with the old baseplate sets. It feels as if CITY is moving in the right direction!
It looks like a good set. I just wish they had fewer of the big wall pieces (the tall 1x2 and worse the hollowed out 1x4 wall). They aren't as good for custom builds, so they limit creativity. It is a major reason why I prefer the creator series when I buy for kids.
$70 is a great price for this set. I feel that so many of the big sets, just aren't worth it, or $30 too much. This feels right on the money. Big building, and a few great vehicles.
road plates are a good addition but how big they are needs to be reconsidered. because the barrier is only one lane wide so should the road plate. road plates are good when they are used correctly
Not sure if anyone else commented on this yet (not in the top dozen or so comments), but those things on the dog-training agility course are "weave poles." Keep up the good work, Jank.
In my experience with movies and video games, those spotlights near prisons are for scanning around to see if there are any escapees at night, but I'm not sure if that's accurate for real prison/police HQ to have those.
I really love the garbage truck! In regards to the actual station, there's just so much open space. I know there's going to be less stuff than in the past I'd just like to see a little less open space, maybe just make the buildings 2-4 studs deeper, to fill up that courtyard area a little
Just bought this bc the pieces looked like they would suit my MOCs, definitely feeling a little post-purchase guilt but I'm glad to know people feel it's worth the price :) I bought it with a gift card too so I only spent $20
I think it would be even better if instead of a single 16x16 roadplate it would've been two 16x8 roadplates, and an extra 16x8 plate to fill up the empty space. That way the road wouldn't take up that much from the front and would continue beyond the gate. But this looks like good value and a nice set.

Lego is for kids and I think the inclusion of the road pieces add A LOT of play value. The set will often get torn down eventually and the parts used for other projects, then all the road plates really come in handy. Also Lego comes with a lot of vehicle it makes sense if there's a lot of road to drive those vehicles on 😀
7498 is my favorite police station, from 2011 if I'm not wrong. 2022 police station is not bad for its price, I think it depends on what you have in the city, or what you expect to do with the station.
This is a much better set that the school you previously reviewed, the police station itself lacks some interior details, but it's not bad per say, the street plates seem to be taking a little too much space in those sets, too much concrete in a way. But it's not a bad set, and the price is reasonable for what you get, a few mods would make it better, if you're so incline to do so. And a garage for the police truck would be ideal, but it would boost the price for sure, cool review, Jang.
This is definitely a surprisingly good value compared to what one might expect from a City set of this size. It also explains why as a set when it comes to aesthetics (the simplicity of the built-up building for example) and maybe even some finer detail and play value it feels a little scant.
Finally, another good Police station that actually has both structure and easy interior access. And it follows the exact same smaller and more affordable scale of buildings sets as the current and previous Fire Station sets. Plus the fact that actually included another vehicle for the crooks that can still easily be used as a regular utility vehicle for anywhere in your city is amazing. And it's a garbage truck on the same scale as the pervious ones from discontinued Great Vehicles line ups makes it just that much more perfect. While also having an action/break out feature that'ssimple and easy to use but also doesn't have a glaring "big red button" to press and can easily be ignored is exactly what people have been looking for. They even included at least three different vehicles and along with the current new Fire Station's Helicopter, this helicopter also has a new and less bland design. Which means that Lego is definitely continuing to improve on what needs to be worked on while not sacrificing the good things they've gotten right recently. I can't believe I'm saying this but for the first time ever I'm going to be trying to get both of the newest Fire and Police Station sets. Because for the first time in memory the big HQ sets are within a much lower price range while still having good playability and detail.
Had a £20 gift voucher for s store in the UK so got this for £24 instead of £44. For me that was excellent value - a real bargain. The vehicles and minifigs alone are really good. What I like about the building is that you can see what's going in inside without needing to look at the back due to the very good use of windows. For me this is a great set for the price, even if you don't get anything off 🙂
The crook in the green outfit is actually the third member of the Ice Cream Bandits, from the TV show. The other two come in the Ice Cream Truck chase set. And the green guys Ice Cream Cone outfit comes in the Lifeguard Station. So three larger sets to get the complete set. 4 if you want their arch nemesis Duke Detain.
The minifigs in this new set are very nice, but the value for money factor looks low to me -- and I hate the colors. I recently bought a used 7744 set for about EUR 50, the color scheme is much better: old-fashioned black and white with touches of yellow and blue. There is a massive building structure with plenty of play features on 1 1/2 base-plate and includes two (OKish) police cars. If you can live with a used set I recommend buying that!
It’s simple, but charming nonetheless, but annoyingly simple, yet I’ll wholeheartedly love it as a kid, but it’s simplicity drag down the detail, who cares the cars are so goodddddd
This is such a playfully designed set, a workout yard for prisoners and a field for dog training, in a police station set? Even each floor of the building looks fun to play for kids. It's smaller, but definitely looks fun!
I guess it's good that this one isn't massively overpriced, though the design of the building and the heli seem like a step back to the years when they used large pieces to create buildings and cars. On the other hand, it's nice that it as a garbage truck included, which can easily be re-purposed to use in a Lego city
I like the garbage-truck, I think I'd like it even more as a stand-alone vehicle with a dumper-mechanic. And some chairs. Help, Lego Police! Who keeps stealing all the chairs?!
The volume of play space and builds seems decent, but that floorplan is just strange to me. I mean the canine training area is oddly on the outside next to the driveway, the roadplate is at the front not used as parking, the road gate leads into nowhere, the prison faces the front entrance, and the potty is open for exihibition from outside. I just feel like the whole main building should be facing the other way flipped front to back. And also the second floor strangely lacks a door to the balcony but the third floor has one. I do like the courtyard with exercise equipments though, nice touch.

i used to hate on the roadplates, but the i got the roadplate pack because it went on sale for 10 bucks, and now i cant help but to convert my city to the new road plates, i no longer hate the roadplates in a set like this ,but sometimes i think lego overused the roadplates
Nice review Jang. I watched your review over and over again just to decide whether I should get this set. In the end I got the set. But after building them, I felt like the set is very empty. The building experience was okay, the design of the set is very wide but boring. I really don't like how it look, so I took the checkpoint, helipad and prison cell out and add on a small garden instead. I feel like city sets lately are so empty, plain and boring.
I think this is a great price for what you get but I do miss the bigger sets. If this was more expensive, they could’ve included more stuff. I also feel the front was misused, it would’ve been better to have less front ground space and more interior, maybe even an actual garage by bringing the front wall forwards instead of having a not really usable yard. Or at least bring the right structure more to the left and take away some of the road
Were those ccbs pieces on the garbage truck new? The sides looked different, I hope this hints at Lego possibly bringing them back a new ccbs even though it is very unlikely.
When you really take a look at the older sets They really arnt that much better in comparison, back in the 80s 90s the city sets all had those dock pieces or plates. Like most new things Lego does I hate them at first then they grow on me. Personally I think alot of these sets probably look better in person.
