yes, a very similar colour scheme. I have that set (in storage) looking at pictures of it again, I think I prefer the more sleek shape on the newer one (and I never really liked the giant roof pieces on set 7938.
That is if passenger trains from Lego were better, like Lego just give us a steam locomotive in City, because of places like Train Mountain, railroad museums, are what I mean
As someone coming originally from Petersfield those Network Southeast liveries are great. And the London underground carriages are really good. The window stickers didn't bother me in green after the colour swap. If anything they stood out better.
I originally came from Guildford, and went to college every day on NSE trains (usually a Wessex Electric) I’d like to also try to build a NSE class 47, with a few standard MK2 coaches. When I have some time, I might try re-making those stickers in white vinyl, I just thought the green looked a bit out of place once all the bricks had been swapped !
I'm late to the party but this was really nice! I have the same set and I will have to take note of this, only minor change I would do is to also replace the LBG plates for the roof with black or red. This also reminds me that I need to build the 7745 that I had for a while.
Yes, it surprised me how much it looked like 7745 when I'd built it. It made me happy, coz I love that set, but I only have 7740 and 7760 pulling 7816!
Thanks, I'm glad you like the look of it. I only did the change because I REALLY don't like LEGO's lime green colour, but if you're a fan of it, then you must be pleased that there's finally a train in that colour! - Whatever the colour, it DEFINITELY needs another engine to go on the other end!
@@MinifigJez Yep, I'm REALLY glad there's finally a train in lime green. I bought two, and converted one engine into a non-motorized trailing cab with luggage compartment and crew break room, one car into a double-decker observation lounge, one car into an economy-class seating car, and left the other two mostly untouched for disability access and bicycle access. The accessible cars still have the large, low doors in the middle for easy access via a track-side ramp, but the rest of the train has been converted to smaller doors on either end that better match traditional station platforms.
@@kentslocum that sounds awesome. And yes… I like the train, but the new low doors are a bit of an issue with every station and station platform that I have ever bought from Lego!!!! (And that goes all the way back to set 7740 from 1980!!!!!
@@MinifigJez Definitely agree with the low doors being incompatible with regular station platforms. That's why I've decided to use them as "accessible" doors with a special ramp.
Love that colour! And now you've highlighted how much it looks like that older train I want to do that version myself! Gives me an excuse to buy another 2! Great video
Glad you Liked it. I don't go for very long trains, so I'm just going to settle for another cab to go on the other end rather than a whole 2nd set. (probably easiest to just buy the parts considering I don't want any of the green bits!!!!) If you do a red conversion, make sure you post a video and let me know! (a little channel mention would be gratefully received too! 😉)
That red colour looks also very good. Very nice how you showed the transformation and the ride after. Also you made more fantastic trains. Made me curious for more so I subbed
GREAT! - many thanks, I don't just build trains, but I do like them a lot, when the time allows, I'm planning on turning our spare bedroom into a full LEGO City... so stay subbed to find out how it all goes!
@@Zabadak I just looked at your channel - You've got some GREAT MOCs I especially like the Convertible Mini - I made the same mini into "The Italian Job" minis: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1D7E2j_j5EQ.html ALSO... I've subbed back to you!
@@MinifigJez Agreed! I`ve already started to collect the red specialized parts needed and a new more suitable windscreen (partnumber 30372). I know I have two upcoming and incoming sets, hehe...
That’s a cool windscreen piece to use. It’ll give it a very different look, using a more angular piece than the curvy one it originally had. GREAT IDEA!
Hi, Did you make a list of the pieces you had to buy? I am not a lego savvy as such. I have a few sets and do enjoy it. A list and rough cost of this hack would be gratefully received. I think this looks much nicer in red.
Hi there. I don't have a list myself, but if you follow the link below, you can go to a list of all the parts in the set. Just scroll down to the "lime" parts (there are about 17 of them) and these are the parts that you'll need to get in red. You can also buy the parts from the website that the link goes to. I hope that helps. www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=60337-1
Firstly, if you were thinking about motorising the new tram, did you see my latest video where I motorised it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wKo5OHoNajc.html Then secondly, regarding two red trains, as I motorised it using a power car similar in design to this one, I was going along the lines that a train company would have a similar colour scheme running through their different rolling stock. So it would stand to reason that two different trains could have similar colour schemes? Anyway, let me know what you decide to do. Thanks for commenting
Thanks. I definitely prefer it in this colour. - Unfortunately, Lego don't make the big slope beside the cab in Blue... currently, Red and White are the only 2 alternatives to Green.
I full white version would look good, but I already have sets: #60051: High-speed Passenger Train and #7897: Passenger Train which are both completely white, so I didn't;t want a third plain white train, and thought teh red and black provided a better comtrast. Since making the video, the set #71460: Mr. Oz's Spacebus has been released with the large slope piece at the front now in...BLACK! So it would now also be possible to make n all black version! I'm glad you like dates video, thanks for commenting.
Next time can you make this train to a real high speed bullet train because I don’t know why Lego make a bullet train to passengers oh and normally the bullet train have two head so can you add another one at the back to
Thanks for commenting… I am definitely going to add a cab at the other end to finish the train. I’m going to leave this as just a passenger train as I already have two of the Horizon Express sets, which I use as my bullet train: brickset.com/sets/10233-1/Horizon-Express
Cool, I never knew that. I live in a UK city and where I am, Blues, Purples and Mauves are the main colour on the trains I see. I wanted to make this in Blue, but as I mentioned in the video, Lego don't make the large slope piece in Blue 😔
That's the great thing about Lego, even if you don't like something about a set,.. you can change it! But if you like it, you can build it as instructions tell you too.
Well, if you buy this set, you could make a green and red striped version of the train! Unfortunately I REALLY dislike green, so I'm very happy with my new red version! Thanks for commenting.
Or orange and white like the original TGV Sud-Est. Perhaps somebody will do all of the possible colours for comparison but that slope will be the problem.
I’d LOVE to swap the grEen for blue, I have even put that large slope piece on one of my Bricklink wanted lists, so if they ever make it in blue, I’ll get an email and I’ll immediately buy some !
My son really wants this train set for Christmas but like you doesn't like the green (he loves LNER Azumas). I've been on brick links website that you mentioned in the video and not having a lot of experience in Lego myself got a bit overwhelmed with the catalogue and where to find the bits that would be needed. I don't suppose you could put a copy of what bits I'd need to order to change his train to red too could you please?
Hi there, Yes, no problem. Below is a link to the inventory of the set on BrickLink. If you scroll down the page, it's all the parts in "Lime" that you need to change. You just need to click on an item, for example the first Lime part in the list is: "Lime brick, 1x2" the list says that it's part number 3004 on Bricklink and you need 8 of them. You can click on the "3004" and go to that part's page. I hope that helps. If you need to know anything else, let me know and I'll try to help. I hope you manage to get it sorted for Christmas! Here's the link: www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=60337-1
Unfortunately, this years Grocery Store (set 60347) and Farmers Market Van (set 60345) both use that lime green colour, so I feel some more re-colours coming!!!
Yep! much better indeed :)! this said, I find lego kind of restrictive with its costumers… because not all pieces exist in every manufactured colour. They make weird decisions, I remember wanting a specific roof piece (reversed roof corner) in dark azure… but it just doesn't exist :/ while standard azure roof pieces do… Which means you can't use certain pieces as you would like to... I in fact found you pretty lucky. The best way to be sure to have a maximum different kind of pieces is by sticking to "classic" colours…
Yes, there are LOTS of pieces that don't come in many colours. I had teh same problem when I made my Italian Job mini's... the roof piece was made in white and red but NOT blue, so I couldn't;t finish my Blue one! You can see it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1D7E2j_j5EQ.html
If you have the Green train set, the red pieces on Bricklink only cost me about £9 (UK pounds) probably less if you bought used parts - so compared to the cost of the original train, not that much to modify. - I'm glad you liked the look of it.
Hello, brand new subscriber here! I like the neon green but wow! This red looks awesome on it! I get a bit of a cyberpunk vibe from it now with it being red and maybe instead of white on the bottom it had azur blue to make it pop it would totally have a cyberpunk vibe to it. But that's just what I would do. Great video bro!
That colour scheme would look good! I’m a bit of an 80’s Lego fan so the red/black/white throw back to the 7745 set pleases me greatly, so I’m probably keeping it in this colour scheme for now.
@@MinifigJez I can get that, that's understandable. I'm just saying that's what I would do if I could afford this set and had the bricks to make it red with azur blue to go with it. It does look great as you did it and I totally get the nostalgia feeling.
@@Mr.AtheTriggerGalleon6310 I think we’re 100% agreed then! Great that we both have colour scheme ideas that we love, but can also appreciate the other’s colour scheme. If you ever manage to do your colour scheme, please let me know, I’d love to se it.
i hope that Lego will make different colors for the slope pieces on the side of the locomotive because the only upgrade i did to mine when i bought it back in February was to not include the electric arm into the build but instead put 4 of the 1x4 solar panels on the roof of the train
Yes I REALLY hope they make more colours, as I'd like to remake this set in BLUE. That's a cool idea turning it into a SOLAR POWERED train! - I love this 1x4 solar tiles, I made a whole Solar Farm out of them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FFGE-lfKDFU.html That's the link to the video if you're interested.

@@dylanwhite3383 That's a cool idea, I think the cargo train is a more difficult train to change the colour of. It has some unusual pieces in it. - Good luck !
A Horizon Express recolour would be cool, and without that huge slope piece in this set to hinder you, the choice of colours would be HUGE! - Let me know if you ever do it.
Only an idea in Studio so far... but I think some one in one of my FB groups took it and ran with it. Some many trains to make, I'm not sure if the "Canadian Horizon" will ever find its way to my layout. Whether it, or an adaptation of yours, does I'll be sure to show it off!
@@SuperWAGs1 Thanks for emailing the image to me - it looks GREAT. - I watched your video on your channel, great to see a trains-eye view, but have you also thought about doing an overview video so we can see what the layout looks like from above?
@@MinifigJez Thanks. I hadn't really considered it. It all started from trying to imagine the Minifig's point of view! Then RU-vid became just an easier way to share with my friends and FB groups, which I often share photos on as well. The other reason being, it is pretty much a mess at the moment! Little time and big construction happening on my second tunnel. I hope to make more soon, and I'll take your suggestion and include some more views.
I really liked the old 7745 set. I had 7772 and always preferred the other one. Did u use some parts you already had or did u use all new? How much did they cost and where from? Cheers
Yes 7745 was a great set. I can’t find 7772 as a train set number, did you mean 7720? I’ve got 7740 and 7760 which are both still in fantastic condition. Some of the red parts were out of my parts collection, but most I bought from Bricklink.com - but I don’t think I spent more than about £5-£8 on all the parts - I hope that helps.
I bought all the pieces from Bricklink.com I just made a “wanted list” with all the pieces I needed, then got Bricklink to tell me which sellers had them. I couldn’t get them all from one seller, but it only took two different orders. I hope you manage to get them all easily!
Oh yes! - I;ve got that train and I'd forgotten that it had the white stripe at the bottom of it - it's less sloped at the front, but otherwise very similar when viewing a small image. Thanks for commenting
Oooh - I'm torn between Metroliner or 7740 as best train set!!!! (I have 7740, but I'm trying to get a good condition Metroliner set for my wife to give me for my birthday this year!)
@@MinifigJez I was lucky enough to get the metroliner years ago for Christmas, a year or two after releasing. Trying to get one nowadays...is even by Lego standards...pricey.
You were very fortunate to get one back then, it’s one of the most expensive sets on my wanted list - and most of the ones I find, have damaged stickers or missing bot no stickers at all. I’ve got an airport shuttle now, so the Metroliner is the next expensive one to get!!!!
Yeah, white is the only other colour you can make this train in, but I thought it would look too much like the other white Passenger Trains - I might give it a go though!
Oh... Its so nostalgic colours. When i was a child I dreamed about lego train 7938 but unfortuantly when i got enought of money this train was out of sales.
WOW! I hadn't noticed that it looked a bit like 7938 (and I actually HAVE that train too!) I was thinking that it looked like 7745, which was one of the trains that I dreamed about when I was a child!
This was my first Lego train when I was 7, my mom put it in a tote and it broke apart. I was never able to find all the pieces again, except for the front bumper pieces, I still have the flexi track.
@@PCrailfan3790 Which set was your first Lego train? The one in this video: 60337? Or the ones people are saying that it looks like now: 7938 or 7745 ?
@@PCrailfan3790 that makes sense… I did wonder why you were remembering back to age 7, for a set that’s only been around 2 years, meaning you’re currently age 9 !?!?!?!? But 7938 was a great set, and it’s sad you only have a part of it left.
If you want it that bad... you can just buyout from Lego.com: www.lego.com/en-gb/product/express-passenger-train-60337 And then buy a few red parts, like I did, and swap the green parts for red! Go for it!
The Red looks good. However I personally prefer the Green because the Green used is so close the the Green used by GO transit! My son associates it with the GO trains that run between Niagara Falls and Toronto.
It’s cool that it looks like a train in your local area. A lot of people DO like the green, it’s just not a colour that i like, so it was fun to swap it for red! Thanks for commenting.

Why did lego start using blue lights? Where in the world is that a thing? In my opinion lego trains have become even less realistic with the two last ones
That's a VERY good point, which I had completely missed! - Fortunately the actual lights are white, and there are just two light blue transparent bricks in front of them, so they are easily swapped to white. Hi Josh, sorry I don’t. I had about half the parts in my parts drawers, and the just ordered then rest off a random seller. It’s not too difficult to work out though. If you don’t have the set yet, you can download the instructions from LEGO and get the parts list from there.

A cool thing that would look very good would be a mix of red and blue, the last car should also be an AMERICAN cab car with red and blue stripes somewhat like caution stripes. I think that would look very good and if I do get the set, I may do that. Overall pretty cool redesign! The green doesn't look that good in the shade it is in.
Yes, I agree that the green did not look good and I;m really pleased with the red r-colour. For a USA-based Lego City, I think your red and blue design would look GREAT. Because I'm from the UK our train designs and set-ups are quite different to yours, in that you nearly always have a driving cab at each end for modern trains, so the USA-style caboose, is never seen over here. (It sometimes makes me chuckle when I see people put a caboose on the end of a Lego Hogwarts Express train!) I hope you manage to get the set one day and make your modifications. Buon giorno e buona domenica. Ottimo. Rivisto e ben fatto.
That IS funny! - But the world would be very boring if we all liked the same colours! Yes, I can't wait to get the new Cargo train too and see what I can do with that one.
There’s plenty of time for you yet… now I’m an adult I CAN buy them all, and then every few years, I save up and buy an old train, that I wanted when I was a kid, that I couldn’t afford back then!
Orange is a good colour scheme with the black and white, but I'll probably leave it in Red as I already have two of the Horizon Express train sets, which are orange, black and white.
Yes, they don't make that big slope in blue (I wanted to make it in blue originally) but I don't spray my lego, I like to keep teh parts original, and maybe just add some stickers.
So much better , every color were better than the lime ... I dont like the green as well.. But also reason why i not spend 175.- for that ... and that twice .... the recoloring would causes even more costs as well.. I think with all costs comes 350.- 2x trainsets and for all 6 colorchanges sure 50 again.. so 400 at least total.. Thats too much for a lego train wich is in my eyes quite minimalistic and only to make it likeable .. Lego should offer different color Versions , or that you can choose in check out process wich color you want to have. That were more cool...
The red parts only cost name about £9 (UK pounds) so not much, but the train sets are getting a lot more expensive than they used to be, especially now they use Powered Up instead of Power Functions. A long time ago Lego DID let you choose the colour of the train, with the "My Own Train" sets - I think it was a great idea, you got a blue train, and then a pack of green, brown, black or grey bricks to change its colour: brickset.com/sets/tag-My-Own-Train
Yes I remember that time, I got a black and a blue steamer then for my children... Just saw today a shop here in switzerland have the train for 135.- ! ...thats 40 cheaper than the other one I told before... quite nice
Yes, I didn't think the green stickers looked good with the red train, so I swapped the windows for blank ones. I think I will eventually make white or red stickers for the windows, or use white ones from another set.
Why even bother with these made-for-children toy sets when you have a huge assortiment of extremely detailed model trains compatible with the LEGO system from BlueBrixx available?
Because I am an AFOL (Adult Fan Of Lego) not an AFOB! I've loved Lego since I was old enough to click two bricks together, I still love Lego, and especially LEGO City. I also Love trains. So I buy LEGO City trains, but I also buy the LEGO creator expert trains (some of which BlueBrixx happily copy, without giving royalties to Lego!) and I also design and build my own trains. (see my channel) There is a HUGE Lego community out there, and I believe that only a small percentage of the fans buy off brand products. BUT... If you get enjoyment from Blubrixx toys, then I wish you all the best. It's the beauty of construction toys, there are so many, and different people like different aspects of them. Personally, it's LEGO only for me!
I thought the red just made it look smarter, rather than more aggressive. I suppose the shape of the front depends on what sort of train you are used to seeing... this one looks a lot more like a Japanese bullet train, whereas the yellow and blue passenger train is a lot more European in style. Thanks for commenting
well, you'd have 2options... 1) buy the parts in orange but you'd have to do a different sloped front end, as the large slope piece does;t come in orange, only red, white and green 2) save up a lot of money and buy a Horizon Express: brickset.com/sets/10233-1/Horizon-Express (but even 2nd hand ones are over £200... I'm glad I bought two of them, when they came out in 2013)
I REALLY wanted to make it. in blue, but because of that huge slope piece I had to go for red instead. Maybe I’ll get the parts in white too and see what it looks like. I can’t do orange either, but I do have two Horizon Express sets, so I’ve got the TGV lookalike covered already !
You’re right, green is definitely a bit of a theme with the latest LEGO City wave of sets! I’m glad you like it, it’s a shame that I don’t like the colour!
