Honestly your commentary on how lego designers have different rules than MOC builders is part of the reason I love your reviews. You get that these are products to be sold, and that you are not generally the target audience. There's some honesty there and self awareness that I often find lacking when I find other reviewers' videos

I think you got the nail on the head about the designers. Anyone that says designers or developers are lazy have no idea what they’re talking about. As for the set, I think I like the idea more than the execution. The price is nicer than expected, but the little things add up and make it hard to love. I might get it eventually, see what I can do with it.

Exactly, this set looks like a concept that still needs some greebling and size added to it.... it looks like something you might come up with if you only had a box of loose lego to choose pieces from... including the tires used on the tiniest 4 wide vehicles and now they are on a tractor trailer??

Exactly, the designers aren't the ones at fault, they can do incredible stuff-if you let them. The constraints (mostly budgetary, but also stability requirements that prevent knees in mechs for example) are what's to blame for underwhelming models.

Set designers also have to work under budget limitations and conforming to Lego’s own standards. It’s not an easy job at all.

Really like this personally. The amount of stuff fit into the trailer is great imo and the main play feature of the movable game characters is wonderful. Those nonsensically tiny rear wheels are about the only negative thing about an otherwise great set IMO, but I'm glad you did a review because I was looking forward to this one. Plus the X-wing canopy in trans-green is an awesome piece.

I definitely commend LEGO for trying to do something different and more contemporary. Though, based on the final product, it makes me wonder if the "truck" format was the best call for this kind of theme.

Cool looking set, I like the truck's shapes. I'd def buy this to add to an arcade moc if I had a city. I would call out how weird it is to have a 2 player game happening in a truck like this, but I actually walked past one at an event in LA last October... so I guess it's a thing!

The only thing that bugged me about this set is that the truck seems to be too small to pull such a bulky trailer - nothing that a small modification can't fix. But overall this set is awesome, and the gameplay feature is very well done.

I bought this set and I love it. Small suggestion: use a narrow, yellow technic stopper on the 5th wheel to balance the trailer a bit better

Interesting they went with the axle hole instead of a regular pin hole for the health bar sliders. Pretty cool play feature. I was pleasantly surprised. Great review as always!

It has alot of neat of ideas with it and I give them huge props for trying with what they had for budgets and restrictions! I think they did good with the main concept but as you said there's alot of bads that hinder the goods especially for where it's clear cuts were obvious like the wheels and truck

The wheel size chosen for the trailer is bonkers! I've used those for the front wheels of an old school six wide Model A Ford Hot rod. These would probably explode as soon as you drop the jack!!

Unfortunately "Shrinkflation" is affecting Lego now as well. I've been noticing more and more compromises being made in sets like this such as the super small semi and less or smaller interiors on sets that have them. I applaud them trying to keep the prices down but the quality suffers which is not a good thing for these kinds of sets.

I think it's a really cool idea, though a bit of a miss when it comes to some aspects of design like you were pointing out. I just wish the trailer were more interesting when closed up to be honest. Great review though, keep up the good work!

I'm finding this set somehow inspirational to me: As Im getting older I enjoy space for some improvements. Perfect sets starting to be kinda boring, because I just build them and place in shelf, but these type of sets pushing me to experimenting and trying to make some changes, and this is eay how I enjoy brickbuilding!

I loved the idea, but I modified the truck and trailer right away. More realistic truck now, with mirrors and grill, and much needed bigger wheels on the trailer. It looks pretty cool now.

This is a cute idea for a set. I like how you can move the characters and health bar indicators around. With no grill, I guess that is meant to be an electric truck. I guess it would fit, given it is for a gaming competition. If I bought it I would probably change the wheels on the back.

Saw this at Costco for 29.99 and immediately put it in my cart. Ended up putting it back to stop an impulse buy. Looking at the set in detail here, I don't think I missed out. It's not as interesting as it looks at first sight.

I ended up picking this one up at the store yesterday. I really liked it overall. I can see my city hosting a geek con one day. I'm passing on the autobody shop. It's cute, but not for me. We all just have different tastes.

I feel like this set has a lot of really and compelling ideas, but I agree that the execution is a little bit underwhelming. I also feel like the large character banners/screens could use more stylization, because the poses look quite stiff as is. I think Lego needs to come up with a part that has soft friction or something. It's clear that designers are trying to come up with ways to add bars or metres that can move but aren't loose, and they're not able to accomplish it at such a small scale. We saw this problem with the Table Football set as well.

I like the individual ideas of the set, it's the mixing them up together who's lacking. Something more like a mobile stage who can be transported into the semi would have worked better I think though that would probably also costed more. Or go smaller, if you want everything integrated, like a van or small truck. That said, for a kid who's into that kind of thing (do they exist at that age range?) that could work. Also, they could have gone gold or silver for the controller on the trophy, plain black that's really cheap.

One of the ways City consistently loses against Friends or Creator is the dire need for everything to involve some sort of conflict or vehicles. All we needed was an arcade or a cybercafe. Just imagine how much more detail and features we could have had if so many bricks didn't have to be used on it being a vehicle.

I think the trophy would have looked cooler if the controller was pearl gold like the rest of it. I have no clue if they have the controller in pearl gold, but it would be nice. Ovarall I think this is a really cool set. It would be perfect in my eyes if it had proper sized rear wheels. The fact that there's clearance for them makes me wonder if the designer ran out of budget.

In all honesty I'm just glad LEGO gave fans of City a large semi truck priced at $40 despite the recent inflation and price increases. It reminds me of the City Police Command Truck from back in the day, just with less features a d playability which I understand had to be compromised. This set could've easily been priced at $80 with the proper amount of detail and play features as some of the larger City or Friends sets, but I'm glad they stepped back a bit for this set.

Honestly the idea of this set is a bit silly but I do appreciated a set that (if I am understanding correctly) is its own LEGO property, not a 3rd party identity that LEGO has gotten a contract to build a set series for, like star wars and minecraft. Creator and City are cool and all but I wanna see some stuff like Power Miners for example :/

I agree with your conclusive review of it. It’s definitely great for parts and stickers. I planned on buying it really for the mini figs alone, but seeing that gimmick makes me want to save the stickers for a future gamer lounge Modular moc. The type where they typically host tournaments, and likely sell comics and trading cards or board games (based on franchises) and D&D, along with snacks for added revenue. I definitely want to build the truck for the sake of the fun of building sets, but I definitely want to modify the rear wheel axle placements to fit larger wheels from my inventory, then maybe figure out a good modification to the truck itself to upscale it whilst keeping its signature design.

I keep coming back to the question(s): Why does it have to be mobile? Why does it have to be a truck? I know that the City theme has an emphasis on vehicles, but maybe this could have been part of a Gaming sub theme? Gaming Arena, Gamer House/Vignette, Game Shop etc.

I'm struggling with this a lot... as its in the city lineup its aimed at the younger crowd and thats OK... but long-term playability is a huge issue here, in almost the same way you mentioned with the alien fairground truck last year. I certainly don't see my kids playing with this for more than 5 minutes. If I put this next to the car transporter, they will chose that every time. Heck, even the penguin slushy van will get played with more than this. For me it's a missed opportunity to use this concept to further advance the missions stuff they did last year, or to merge the physical and digital experiences in some other way.

I think your thoughts are SUPER appropriate for this set, and I do feel like it's a bit too limited. I would have loved to see the blue and magenta carried to the outside, at least a LITTLE bit? Or some hints at Branding for the tourney? Or something? That said, I ADORE the general aesthetic and implied details? I would love MORE sets in this "genre" exploring the video gaming, the various branding, etc? I think it breaks up a lot of the monotony of the typical police and fire truck constance that we get in Cities? But they've been doing better with that lately. In general, I love the pieces used, I do love the graphics we get with this, and I definitely wanna expand on this set on my own, even if Lego doesn't

I find the concept of this being a mobile tournament stage a bit weird. In my opinion this would have worked better as a stationary stage. All the truck related pieces could have gone into additional details and accessories, maybe some benches for the audience, a commentator booth or a food stand.

I kinda wanted the in-game characters to be minifigs in the set, honestly. I know that's not the point of LEGO City, but gosh they show you these cool designs but then don't include them. The red character looks like something straight out of monkey kid, and the blue one looks like a super hero, but I couldn't find existing pieces in any theme to accurately re-create them. Again I know this is a City set and it focuses on the tournament and not the game itself, so it's *not* like I expect the figures to be included or else the set is "bad", I get that. But the characters caught my eye and then the included stuff seemed less interesting because of the direct comparison.

I actually really like the concept they're going for with this set. Not just another transporting vehicle but something connected with the computer/video game industry. And this seems to have a good playable feature with interesting colours and mini figures. It's good to see different ideas in the city line. The biggest problem here though is the UK (and Europesn) price. Way too high. You can still pick up the medical heli transporter here in the UK for £20-25. And you get two different playable vehicles with that. If Lego are going to almost double the price in the space of a year, there'd better be double the playability. I don't see that, I just see more stickers. Nah, not good enough for me.

For me the 10244 Fairground Mixer is still the best amongst these trailer truck type builds. The one that followed, the 60313 Space Ride Amusement Truck, is also miles ahead of this in terms of playability. The lack of play/ cool features on this one is what kills it. I cannot agree more about you saying there's nothing exciting about it.

I was in doubt to buy this set, but now I know I know I won't buy it. The truck and the trailer are not in proportion, the truck needs to be way bigger. At least at the same hight as the trailer. And those trailer wheels, what were they thinking? I think they just missed with this set, it might have been good, but it just isn't. All in all 45 euros is too just for this, maybe about 30/32 euros would be a fair price.

Looking at this, it's almost like it has the same problems as the Car Transporter set from a couple years ago, also a fellow City set. Agreed, both are priced ok and have plenty to the model itself, but they're both pretty bland looking; their white, black and green colour schemes also does cheapen it somewhat with how basic those colours are. The truck here is definitely too small; it's actually smaller and more basic looking than the truck from the Car Transporter set which was also less costly (but has smaller more basic pieces and less figures). This probably needed a slightly higher budget to improve in the compromised areas.

Because of that magenta hair, I can only think of that minifig as Lavagirl. I'm not super into this theme, it feels kinda "how do you do, fellow kids?". I guess it works if you think of it as part of a cringey 90's/00's reality show that's trying way too hard to be radical and make gaming look Xtreme.

i think the amount of stuff for the money is okay, but the play aspect is left a bit wanting. everything on it is a bit flat, and i think that takes away from it a bit.

When it comes to Lego City, one thing I'm sick of seeing is the same old thing, over and over. How many times must we see massive trucks pulling caravans, or being a transport for a helicopter, plane, stunt bikes, or be something fire brigade or police related? Anything that is unique to the world of Lego trucks - or even just the Lego City theme in general - gets a massive tick from me. Even though I think it's maybe a tad overpriced, I'm actually happy to pay that price when I'm paying for ORIGINALITY. But the best part about this set is the theme itself - gaming. Lego as a company seems to finally be acknowledging its 21st Century audience, and representing them in Lego form. More of this please, Lego.

The small trailer wheels actually make sense. Seen some similar trailers for similar special light duty purpose and those have really small wheels in real life too and yes they do kind of look silly just as those but I think they did do it right.
