Saw his 1 hour time lapse vid and was hooked! Btw, love your vids, Jerra! I can’t thank you enough as you’re a huge inspiration and an amazing builder!😊
if there's one thing I want to see, it's to see you patch up those open sections of the walls lol. Not really lego related of course, but it always sticks out to me whenever you show the train's point of view.
@@SirCavas Well, everything improves over time. He began in 2018 after all and I would guess, as a hobby. Not everyone has an extremely good camera lying around
This train layout is goals! Beautifully done mate. Btw, why are your tenders facing the wrong way? Also for the emerald night you should tinker with the drive gears. Sometimes it is on too tight..
I've wanted the Emerald Night since I was literally eleven years old and finally got a copy this year for my birthday. Absolutely gorgeous set. This honestly makes me super happy. Some day I hope I get to have my own full train loop like this one!
I really love your city and how the train can go all around it. I'm just wondering... What do you do with dust and such stuff? ... pls share your secrets ;D
Love your layout and also the behind the scenes/under the mountain. What kind of camera do you use? Must be small i think since everything sits close to the track.
I am still hoping Lego is going to give us a proper steam train sometime. Unfortunately the new 2022 Hogwarts express is not that since it is too wide. Missed opportunity in my opinion.
Almost every other color of that window is cheap, just build coaches in a different color. Red, blue and yellow are all cheap and lots of real train cars are painted these colors.
The issue with the Emerald Night is the drivers, I think. If you look at Disney Train you can see that they do a different approach with the drivers to avoid friction causing the wheels to lock up.
According to the instructions for the Emerald Night you need to put one of the three drive wheels at a different rotation. One of them needs to be in the 3 o'clock position while the others go in the 12 o'clock position. This might work, haven't tried it myself yet. (Mine was locking up as well)
This is one of the best lego projects ive seen in a long time, have been watching the entire series since i first discovered it some months ago. Gives off a lot of classic lego vibes to me, with how there are multiple different themes in it. Any updates on the moon/space area?
The moon base videos are always expansive, so he always waits some time to do them. Or has a sponsor. When this channel grows, he will get more money and therefore can also more easily do these videos
@@Hendricus56 actually he has a pretty large german channel witch helps him alot in affording these citys. If you want to see more, he has linked is german Channel with all the updates of the old city.
Perhaps an idea for the subway would be to connect it directly to the end of the current station? I've seen plenty of bigger city stations that have both an interior and exterior platform (mainly due to the amount of trains running through and inability to build on top of the city above) and its not unusual to see shops and vendors on the interior parts of the platform building but with a long stretch of it leading out into the daylight for trains that are over 4 carriages in length. It would also help you get around the idea of having 2 stations so close to each other in the build, you could even add a large station hub above with faux effects of it linking to the platform below.
You deserve more recognition. Also for the money laundering part of the harbor I think it would be cool to add signs like the construction signs or tape or something that would keep the public away and make sense to the story. Maybe make it part of the loading and unloading of the cargo of the harbor?
For a moment I thought you were going to make the room in between into a giant underground metro station, but I like the one you showed. Really awesome build, I only started following a few months ago and it just keeps looking better and better!
I love how you used duplo blocks in the old city as support beams haha. Another great update. Honestly the best looking Lego city out there. Super excited to see what you do with the harbor and your moon base
I really wish LEGO would give more love to their trains. I remember as a kid, they had a series of custom steamers called "My Own Train", and a whole bunch of settings and buildings to go with them. And of course, the Super Chief!
Augh! you're filming at 30FPS but this video was edited and released in 25FPS! ...leading to stuttering from the skipped frames. Film at 25FPS and things will look smoother! :)
Sorry this may have been asked before but can you motorize the trains directly with lipo battery packs with Radio Control recievers and speed controllers built in rather than rely on the track being electrified? You can run many trains on the same track without any issues. Also how are you able to pay for all this being so young?
I Has the same problem with the Emerald night on my Micket. You must just take off this Black long pipes and wheels cleen them up (they can by white becose the dirt and dogs hair) for eaven better speed you can take new pipes. Sry for calling those elements pipes but Eanglish wasn't my first langage. By bro :)
When it came to the problem with insane train car window prices, I ended up using a mixture of: Window 1 x 2 x 3 Flat Front (60593) and Window 1 x 2 x 2 Flat Front (60592) but horizontally on their side. It works well for achieving certain styles of train cars.
Well my emerald train has the same issue, was quite disappointing when i disassembled one of my trains in order to motorize it and discover that it was made to push wuth hand but some extra weight migt hepl (when you applyed more force to it, it went smoother as i remember)
It's just a thought and I could well be wrong, but possibly if the walls in your in-between room are painted an off-white rather than true white, there might be a yellowish hue to the walls causing the light to reflect off them and turn yellow, especially if the lightbulbs are kind of dark and causing shadows to appear on the walls. You might be able to fix the yellow room look by getting brighter and/or bluer lightbulbs for the space.
I would always fantasize about having a city like this when I was little, this project is fantastic and the passion you show is incredible, can't wait to see what it looks like a year from now
Excellent! I don’t have the sound on at the moment because my girlfriend is watching tv in the same room, but I just have to give a small word of advice. If you haven’t clarified why yet, the coal and water cars for your steam engines are on backwards. The coal’s supposed to be closest to the engine’s controls so the fireman, or stoker, can shovel it into the firebox. The water’s simply piped into the boiler through the frames underneath. If it’s a stylistic choice, then you do you.
4:00 The issue with the Emerald Night's drivers is the drive rod from the cylinder is up too high and it's only held by one technic piece in the cylinder. Mine would frequently jam because of this. The cylinders should be perfectly in line with the center of the drive wheels, I never tried to modify that on mine and I'm not sure if it's really possible without messing up the rest of the engine. ...Also I hate to be that guy but your tender is on backwards... Very impressive layout btw!
It's an issue with the Emerald Night that the wheels lock up, but it's not all that difficult to modify it to solve that issue, there's some tutorials on RU-vid which i followed to modify mine and now the issue isn't there anymore
Hey looks really great! A couple of questions. Do you have power only connected at one point of the track or several? Secondly have you considered a remote control system for the trains? I think there’s a way to convert the trains to dcc, which would allow multiple trains at once and remote control over them all, which would give you the ability to walk around a bit more
I actually have a question for you. Why are both of your steam engines and tenders backwards? Because I'm an o scale guy and the tender the coal is always facing that it goes engine and then the tender is coal is the cold is facing the engine. That's how we've always done it. But if there's something different in Lego like is the magnet polarity different or wonder? I really wonder one wonders but also why wait? Is it like a can motor in those or is it like one of those open motors in those locomotives? Because I'm thinking about getting into the hobby and I don't know if there can motors because usually those are reliable or they open motors cuz I'm thinking about getting into that different hobby I'm playing. I'm being oh scale and Lego scale. What even is Lego scale doesn't make sense. It doesn't make sense later
I'm just curious, when it comes to passenger cars, why not use smaller windows? It seems to me that- to quote google images- LEGO Window 1x2x2 single hole top and bottom for glass; would work decently. Alternatively; at $16-$22 USD a window,(?) a 3d printer make not be a bad idea. If you got one, you could make as many as you want. (Not to mention you could control their quality.) And then, you could make any other harder to get piece you'd need. Or you know, you could just save the trouble and just stick to freight cars. lol.
C/E III on 9v motor? Meeh, looks bad for me. i prefer use for him rechargeble batts or cargo 9v wagon, other then modify model. Emerald night... I assemble it from scratch by old manual and dont have amy friction problem. Maybe your wheel positioning is wrong (unlikely, you make other train), or wheels pushed to main frame too hard and that zego gap from wheel to frame making wheels to block.
I had a few things you could do in your Lego city (maybe you already have them): a dentist, a paperpress, a (disco)club, a school, a kindergarten, a few stores, a gamehall, a fabric, and maybe some other things.
To answer the question. No, i have never seen that train before. I live in Denmark, and we don't see those trains. We mostly see the IC3 and IC4 trains. (Italien) But hey, keep up the good work
there are DCC options now for Lego Trains, using the 9v powered rail. Also, to solve the window issue, get a 3d printer. You can print bricks, parts and so on and yes it is legal to do so, Lego doesn't have a right to the brick itself just how its assembled (aka the set not the individual bricks).
