How are all the rides in the fairground going to be powered? And how are the PF battery boxes going to be hidden whilst still being accessible for recharging and turning on and off? The answer, my friends, is inside Camper Vans and Caravans. Yes, my travelling carny folk need mobile homes so these converted builds will fit right into the fairground scene but will also do a vital job in plain sight!

Well, I would've hid the batteries by placing them on their sides at the edge of the table, but under the ground. That way I could easily recharge them and turn them off, but still have them hidden.

The little town I grew up in in Connecticut USA had a traveling carnival every spring, called the "Spring Fling." When I was young enough it felt like a real Circus, but as I got a little older, I started to realize that it was 10% food, 40% kiddie rides and the remaining 50% was just a rip off.. and then when there was a new generation of kids in my family, my nieces and nephews, the 'rip off' faded back and I once again saw the hints of a real live circus again through the kids' excitement! It has been a couple decades, but I still have fond memories. I don't remember seeing any campers or caravans but in a nearby parking lot were the 'big trucks' and a few trailers (most of the rides WERE their own trailers) that hauled the show from place to place. You could easily repurpose some "Octan" trucks to make the fleet for your carnival!
@RobinHoodBricks
@RobinHoodBricks 3 года назад
Yeah, it may not be realistic but I like it. Spring Fling is a catchy name. Ours is called the Goose Fair for very traditional reasons. Kids make any fair more fun!

what a fantastic idea! just a small tip... a caravan has retractable stands, makes it stand straight... and it's not weird if a wire would show, you can connect a camper or caravan to a poweroutlet on a campground. so if a piece of wire can't be hidden you could put it through a "powersupplybox". keep up the fun stuff! love watching your ideas.

What a fantastic way to hide your battery boxes. It makes so much sense to have them in camper vans. I have the camper van from 2014 it was one of my first lego sets and I remember my Gran got me it at a local toy shop I still have it built on my display shelfs 😆😆😆😆. In the larger camper van set you could have a dog sitting in one of the seats barking at a cat outside and making a mess to give it a nice funny scene. Good stuff 😃😃😃

Hi Robin Great idea to stow the batteries in the caravans, really smart! Usually the fairground owner’s caravans would have some stickers of their businesses- maybe you could apply some if you happen to have some leftovers from your numerous sticker sheets. However the boat or surfboard on these caravans due to their professional usage. Maybe packing stuff from the rides? 🤔

I think this is a ingenious idea of incorporating the battery boxes into a camper for the fair ground. Definitely love the LDD build process to show how you put it inside and how you figured out the on/off switch. I really wish LEGO wouldn't of retired power functions. The newer powered up looks like you can only plug 2 options in at a time. Great video my friend, keep up the awesome work!
@RobinHoodBricks
@RobinHoodBricks 3 года назад
Not only that but the limited two options have to be controlled separately and ONLY with an app. How is that flexible? And they aren't rechargeable!

Excellent idea and execution. Looking at the little caravan, you could incorporate a battery into a coffee caravan in the same franchise as the ones in town. That seems a realistic thing to have at a carnival and would link the two parts of your city well.

Like the idea very much. I'm not keen on the protruding wheels. I would try replacing the inverted slopes with a 2 wide ditos and put a tile over the protruding studs. Alternatively put cheese slopes over them to blend the "mudguards" into the caravan body. Probably would screw up the opening feature though. I wish lego would make less cartoonish tires to go on these rims. Slicks more or less. But that's another story....
@RobinHoodBricks

Yeah, I got rid of all the chunky tyres from all my cars but I guess I forgot to do the caravans too. I tend to leave them on trucks as they don't look quite as wrong there. I have some tyres left somewhere!

If you had at least one small brick gap or a clear piece you could have the light shine thru the window or maybe a translucent feature on the roof- its a free light source. Maybe it would give the illusion of a tv being on in the inside? I like how the button works thru the boat being pressed down. The boat might be an opportunity for some kind of scene as well.

Just some thoughts: 1. Can you keep the fenders on the caravan when you make it 1 plate higher? 2. Vans and caravans of fair people are on a separate field in the Netherlands. Not besides their attraction. So actually you do need a truck with generator. Bright yellow with a dirty backside due to the diesel exhaust. 3. Fair people never have a Kayak on top on top of the van. There is no time for that. - Best regards, Marco

I wouldn’t mind seeing a little bit of the cable. In real life a RV would have a electrical cable running from a electrical box or outlet to the RV when setup . The bigger one works well going out underneath but the smaller one might look more natural going to a electrical distribution box beside the trailer that than takes the electrical cord underneath the table rather than having the cord run outside and under the trailer.

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I'd actually think this set up would make a bit more sense if you made a dedicated camp ground, and had the cable coming out of the camper be its "shore power" hook up. Alot of campers have the ability to be plugged into a high voltage box when in a camp ground, and this would allow the cable to even be visible and still make sense as a part of the build.

Love it - fantastic idea! I have a particular fondness for caravans etc. so I would keep the canoe, but that's me :)

Started watching one of your earlier videos the other day Robin. Clearly more nervous in those days. Must commend you on your delivery now and interaction. Much more fluid now. Great work.

So genius.. maybe change one of the vans to a different color like Pink haha maybe they own the flamingo club. I really have started to think of these people as "real" LOL thanks again for a great Friday video!

Last week watching the carousel video for some reason it reminded me of toy story 4 and now with the motorhomes it's reminding even more. The next part of the comment has spoilers for toy story 4. In toy story 4 the ending scene has a motorhome with an awning out next to a carousel where the toys say goodbye to bo and woody.

Indeed, this is a brilliant idea! Curious how often you will need to recharge those battery boxes if you are using them for many rides in parallel.
@RobinHoodBricks
@RobinHoodBricks 3 года назад
Well, the Cargo Train I have more experience of. That works really hard and will go for several sessions without needing a recharge. I tend to charge them before filming a train video so it doesn't conk out mid take. So I usually charge them before they run out. Rides are far less heavy so these should last even longer!
