Just wait…if this becomes a success, they will come naturally 😅 And then we will complain they shouldn’t bring out that many figs, because we can’t pay it anymore to keep our collection complete 🥴 Buuuuuuuut…I would definitely buy them 😄
I definitely would love to see this become it's own separate theme/mini theme. I would really like to see them tackle Space and especially Castle at this size.
This is one heck of a set it looks so cool sitting there it’s like a big giant beetle looking back at you just sitting there and you knowing there is millions of smaller ones yet this is a big one makes it unique and special
I think a cool thing for Lego to do is they should make some of the classic mini figures from those original lines like a space mini figure, they could do red beard, one of the knights maybe. Just figures like that but in this scale.
I find the gaps and colour varies much more than it used to. Some especially black parts can look used when they are brand new out of the box. Dull, cloudy and scratched.
Haha, that hat hiding a control cockpit is hilarious. It makes me think of Mazinger Z, with the hat as a separate little spaceship that docks with the head to form the completed mech!
I got some extra money for my birthday and instantly bought this! It came in the mail today, but I haven't been able to build it yet due to exams :( Veeeeery excited to do so, though. (Awesome review as always, Jang! I Love how you give critique where necessary, even on the small details (which most of us probably wouldn't even notice.))
I ignored this kit thinking it was just a gimmick, and maybe it is, but it is really cool. I think I know what I am picking up for myself this Christmas!
I love that quality rant! Lego is very highly priced compared to it's system compatible competitors. I got the Indiana Jone plane chase and it was missing bag 2 and the sticker sheet and when I got a replacement set the cockpit was scratched
Honestly the fact that you have to have it wear the cap is a big miss. If it had a vacant stud option it would double as the more iconic plain “Bob” minifig, plus doubling as nostalgia for Lego Universe nostalgia.
Of course adding more to the set would make it better. It's very easy to say lack of additional things is a "big miss". If it a vacant stud, people would have said, "this is great, but the fact it doesn't have an accessories is a big miss" and so on.
About 4 years ago I tried to build essentialy exactly this, but the shapes were too hard so I made an 8x size gonk droid instead, so of course this became a must have set for me immediately when I first saw it
I remember trying to make something like this for a contest they did in London for the 50th anniversary of the Lego brick. It ended up being too blocky and not round enough. I only really had normal bricks at the time. I didn't win but I got a Lego brick keychain with my name etched into it
This is SOOO neat! I would love to see even more variety of an Up-Scale minifigs as well! An astronaut (oh yes, make that one please!!!), Batman, Superman, IronMan.. well you get the point, lots of possibilities for sure!
lego made a few larger figs like ant-man, the wonder woman villain, ninjago, harry potter and they kept the same scale, making great figures for play. This "new" scale, is actually the third set/the fourth figure to use it ! Not only did they make the pirate (which has a great torso build) but also Harry and Hermione, both in the same set. The build is exactly the same for all 4 figures (at least for the base) so I'm pretty confident lego will keep doing more of those great builds ;) can't wait to get my hands on this one to complete the collection
It would be awesome if you used very similar if not pretty much the same build to make a big version of your sig fig and put it in your city as a monument or statue type thing. It’s silly but I think that would be really funny and cool
Wish the hat was optional. Among other things the hat on the buildable minifig is a classic minifig hat, whereas the one for the minifig is a modern hat. I’m really not liking the extra bit of bricks on the back of the hat. And I also think the hat should had been white for a little bit of variety from the classic common Lego colors.
I am mad about the lack of a "bald" option. I consider the stud on the head to be part of the iconic minifig look and IMO the cap just doesn't look great.
I love the fact that it has the min-fig driver in top of the hat. I put Space Benny as the driver in my Lego Optimus Prime by taking out the matrix in the chest. Had to take off Bennys legs tho to fit him in.
FIFTY EUROS FOR TWO MINIFIGS?! Kidding, this is great. I've already ordered mine, because I wanted this as soon as I saw it. I'm guessing the hat could be fixed (even if it's at the cost of some strength) with some elbow-grease, I'll be more than happy to give it my best try. And at the same time - I'm sure I can whip up a "headpiece" to go instead of the hat, that resembles a fully bald minifig-head. It's Lego! If it doesn't exist, we can build it!
i was drawn to this set because it reminded of me of some one-off sets that weren't tied to a specific theme or license in the late 2000's. The cap that hides a mech cockpit on a seemingly normal minifigure model? that's a concept that i haven't seen in a set since the 2010's, the designer didn't need to do that and i'm so happy that they did. it just screams LEGO. Outside of the faulty blue pigments and the slightly innacurate cap, i'd say this is surprisingly one of the best sets of the season. The price isn't even that egregious, either.
I think this is awesome. I'm not sure how I feel about the legs being shorter, but I guess they are probably easy to lengthen DIY style and the set can be cheaper that way. I was also not a fan of the back of the hat but the smoothness of the dome used offsets that well enough and it's in the back so probably the least offensive location for the hinge overall. It really is a shame they can't get their colors right though. They absolutely should be able to get different pieces that match in color.
Thanks for the review of this, JANG, it’s a fantastic set! I’m really not looking forward to poorly color matched pieces in my set, LEGO needs to fix that issue immediately
This set is awesome! I 1000% agree that the minifigure tribute set should have been widely available, it's not a Lego house experience, it's a part of LEGO's history. I hope Lego comes out with more mega figures like this in the same scale. It would be cool if the head was completely and you could switch up the hat or hair. I hope they do other famous minifigures and maybe Ninjago ninja minifigures My only criticism of this set is the back of the hat, I understand it was necessary, but it doesn't look good
A few more parts to come from bricklink and I'll be building a detachable studded bald head as an alternative to the hat - will require just a minor change to the head build which will not be visible and will also still allow the hat to be fitted without needing to convert it back 😊
I also hope they continue and make this a series. Spaceman is an easy add. And invent an upside down corner piece to round out the face more, and we're golden. More like these please!
They should make a giant man like this. That would be a great one for marvel fans. I was hoping they would have the holes at the back and the ability to split the parts but then the price would be a lot.
A year or two ago, Lego did a giant minific set too, for Harry and Hermione. I really liked it, though apparently a lot of people found it weird (probably why I got it at a pretty cheap price) Now, Lego made another set like that, only with a generic minific this time, and everybody praise it? I mean, I love it too and will buy it, but is this really that better than the HP one? In fact I even prefer the HP since Harry and Hermione are more detailed and interesting than a generic minific.
Not as niche. This is a cool novelty piece for Lego enthusiasts. The Harry Potter one was strange because it was a licensed novelty and it just feels way more random
Yes, it is better. Harry and Hermione had static legs that couldn't bend. Also, since this set is a mech it can officially be used alongside other LEGO sets. It's not just a display piece.
I also have this confusion when I saw everyone praising this set! The Harry Potter one has way more prints and even a custom cloak piece, and tons of light nougat pieces that should be more expensive to get, and yet that set got clearances often at 50% off at stores.
Just built this set yesterday. I modified the hat to be a little less brimmy in the back. Also I agree with feeling that they missed an opportunity to have just the head be bald with the stud on top. That being said would love to see more minifigure themes especially iconic ones from Lego in this style. Hopefully with time they will fix any discrepancies and issues they have with this set
Would have been neat, (though I admit probably more difficult to design than it should be), but being able to take the legs and head off the same way a regular minifigure does would have been a novel addition
