The fact is, Jang is a legend. Modern Lego RU-vid is full of cringe and LAN. Jang is one of the few people left who are willing to point out the bad and give their honest thoughts while also not just hating on the entire company.

I'm a huge Dune fan and when I saw this I was awestruck. I haven't bought a large lego set in a while and I seriously debated getting this, but other things got in the way. But now watching your review I'm wondering if I should try and stretch the budget... Great review

really need to find the funds for this. "adult" sets usually aren't about the functions, but this one really needed them to properly represent the vehicle.
@AHYL88
@AHYL88 7 месяцев назад
This is expensive for sure, so value is kinda iffy, but this calls to me though. It's very interesting and striking looking, has fantastic complex functions and even though I don't care for them, a big near complete selection of figures. Hearing it's another crazy Mike Psiaki creation, I knew we were in for a treat and this did not disappoint. Regarding the small 2-long red axles and red ball-ended pins, they don't normally bother me but it does greatly bother me here, chiefly due to the fact that black versions of the same 2-long axles are also used in this set as well. In fact, there's more of the 2-long axles in black than in red, 48 black vs 31 red, so I don't see why it didn't go the whole way and use just the black 2-long axles throughout the model. I do agree that in red, it helps to find the right pieces much quicker and easier, but it's very bizarre that so much effort went into making the wing parts of this as consistently coloured as possible, but then gets small bits of contrasting colours right near it that spoils that effort. I'm also aware that black versions of the ball-ended pins are still going, which this would need 20 of to swap in. And that orange part you pointed out already exists in light grey, so that's another part to swap, 4 of. I'm gonna go for this despite having not read or seen the Dune related media, obviously waiting for a discount as this is sold virtually everywhere; really, the only thing I don't like is questionable choices of colours that's used for some of the pieces.

I honestly never expected Lego to make a set from Dune so this is incredible. It's my favorite book of all time and I enjoyed the movie a lot but its full of very adult themes and a lot of violence, religious concepts, etc. I hope they continue to do the one-of adult sets for non-standard properties that wouldn't normally get a whole theme. Especially things outside their normal "rules". Love that they included most of the main cast in one set. The engineering on the wings alone is very impressive. I would have been happy with a completely static model but this is crazy how complex it is while working pretty flawlessly.

I've always wondered this with these kind of videos, when we say it's $165 in the US, do you then have to also pay Sales tax on top of that? Or is it included? I always wonder how it's done because the UK price is inclusive of VAT (like all of our prices because we're not insane). Would make a fairly big difference to the price comparison if that's the case.

Great review as always. A tip for the blades sagging over time, swap out the left ones over to the right side and visa versa. Gravity will do its thing and down the road, reverse them again each time you dust it off.

I really cannot understand the hypocrisy of other Lego reviewers saying there is too much Lego technic in this set. If the designers had gone the other route and added no technic at all everyone would have complained that it only had one position. If you're reading this as a Lego reviewer, please think of a better solution you would enjoy before criticizing the hard work of a designer.

Thanks for demostrating bending the blades. I was thinking how to approach straightening mine and started considering squeezing them between two heavy books, but seeing them bent so much just by hand, I'l probably try doing this first (I tried already, but didn't bent them nearly as much as you did, but since it is safe...).

My dad just showed me this today. He pre ordered it back in November and was extremely exited to get this. I am not familiar with Dune but this thing looks amazing! It feels amazing! I wish i could have seen the build experience because it looks really technic heavy. The only downside is that the wings themself are a bit bent to one side which results in some asymmetry. Overall this is an amazing set and getting it cheaper before it's release was an excellent grab from my dad.

Showed up for the review because this set looks amazing, and was delighted to see that Gundam at the end! I did a custom paint job on that exact model but went with a very dark red with black, and a few gold accents. Few pops of baby blue as a major contrast. It's such a great model. Looks sick in that tan color.

Great review! While I'm not much of a Dune fan (only played the PC-game in the early 90s...), I do really like what they did here! And while the mechanisms might make it look a bid rough, considering how well those function, I think that was a good trade-off in the end. But yeah, that color puke.....that's just so unfortunate and unnecessary. I think in this case it kinda ruins what could have been a pretty much perfect set. Considering I have already seen it at a good discount (€125) I'll probably will buy it regardless, but I'll sure get some replacement pieces in black and grey.

I watched Part 1 4 times within a month of it coming out (admittedly twice at home), and being a Star Wars fan painfully rejecting the costs of many of those sets over my life, this £150 was a no-brainer buy for me. Lovely minifigs and scale, the many functions, I like having enough stillsuits that you could swap between characters even (give Duke Leto armour also if you want, etc.). Helps that it looks much better than the Justifier excluding the coloured pins.

@CatRaph 7 месяцев назад
I loved the ornithopter. This, sadly, was a miss for me. Built it today and must voice my disappointment. I was excited for the wings flapping, but they move too slow and too little. For a set this expensive, I feel it made too many compromises on looks and detail in exchange for a mechanism that underachieves. Also the really awful new trans-black, such a bad color. It´s dark blue and way too opaque.

The Timothee Chalamet minifig looks more like Kyle McLachlan’s version of Paul haha. I’d be curious to see what other ideas they have for Dune sets, there’s not really a lot that translates well to Lego in my opinion. The thing I want most is a buildable version of a sandworm. If they ever make it to God Emperor of Dune then a Emperor Leto set would be amazing.

It's so weird to see the Lego group do something so GOOFY. Baron Harkonnen's inclusion is a joke, a pretty funny one admittedly, but it is just a goofy joke. I imagine there was a point where they weren't planning on including so many figures with this set, but once someone mocked up the Baron design, they couldn't *not* include it

I really don't like how the sides are covered. Studs, no studs, suddenly no cover at all, multiple different pieces that don't flow together... If I ever get this set for its amazing functions, I'll immediately have to go to BrickLink for parts to properly smooth out the exterior.

My one knock against this set is the red axles, and blue pins everywhere on the exterior of the set. If I squint, the yellow bars don't bother me because I can always just imagine them as gold hydraulic or pneumatic parts in the arms. The other parts wouldn't bother me at all if it was just on the interior away from where you can see them. I'm absolutely begging LEGO to use black pins/ and axle pieces for sets they call Icons because that lends to the idea of looking more serious.

I've been on the fence about this set, but seeing it here I'm finding it very appealing. I may pick it up after all. I just think that Lego should have included an extra set of color neutral parts so that builders had the option to build a more color accurate version. Given the price tag, the impact to Lego's bottom line would be insignificant.

I wonder if you could integrate a motor to control the flapping fins, but make it so you aren't sacrificing the ability to fold the fins back. The deployable landing gear totally give dropship vibes. Considering this point, it is unfortunate you don't have more transport space, but in the end you have to choose either functionality or interior space.
