I'm kinda torn on this set. On one hand, I absolutely admire that Lego's designers were able to turn this digital concept into a working real-life version. On the other hand, the limitations of the material means that it had to be down-scaled but still bulked up to remain sturdy, turning it from a playable toy into a piece of decoration that will stand around in a sophisticated person's room collecting dust and looking fancy. All in all, I think Lego has made a valiant effort, but some things just aren't meant to be attempted in Lego.
That is a great complete review 👍🏽 Anyway I think it was quite obvious that the original submission would have to be scaled down I’m sure the fan designer is super happy and proud of the final model in any case
It's quite funny seeing how the LEGO designers managed to cram as many bricks as possible into both builds to meet the predetermined unchangeable part count for this smaller than anticipated model. I'm glad they put the effort into Making this set able to be released even if it feels incredibly overpriced. I'm almost glad that this set ended up in the state that it is as it has significantly sped up the production of new minifigure heads in all the new colours which can now be used in any set. Without this set it would probably taken quite a while for them to be slowly dripfed across a range of sets.
I guess I made my comment too early before seeing that the range of Minifigures was a decision from the beginning. Knowing this just makes me like the set more as the positives I mentioned were intentional rather than only being a happy accident
Hi Balasz, as you know I'm a huge fan of yours but you once again managed to top yourself! Actually I'm a multiple tournament winner on a deutscher meister in Dutch coffeeshops and seeing you even have one at home made me almost fall of my couch! Sadly I had to sell my own table a couple of years ago due to space problems but I'm def buying this one (if only for old times sake!). Great video!
Thanks for this review and comparison, Bro 🙏🏼🤗... waiting for your take on the lighthouse as well 👍🏼...and I just wonder if Lego gets a hint and maybe gonna send you the hulkbuster to review as well 🤨😋😉😆
Great review! I would be happy if they replace all of those hair and head parts with yellow smiley faces, and then lower the price. Just like the original Table Football didn't have any figure variations.
As I mentioned this was part of the concept from the beginning of the development, this is a perfect set to introduce a high variety of head and hair pieces. I don't really think the set would be more appealing with simple minifigs for e.g. $20-30 less
@@RacingBrick I get that some people might want the Minifigures to represent their favorite football players, but it's something not everyone needs especially non-football fans but interested in this set like me. (and I am a big fan of designer Jamie Berard who uses only yellow smiley faces in his modular building sets) Some of the hair pieces like that dark pink twin ponytail feel unnecessary for me, since I never heard a football player has that hairstyle. If they want to introduce new parts they could just make a set similar to a battle pack/ accessory pack/ cmf to do so.
@@Polo88Kai there's no set that is perfect for everyone. You might not want to see all these heads and hair pieces in the set, others might like it. The accessory pack was not an option according to the designers, based on what they said I felt that *this* set was the opportunity to introduce them in this variety, otherwise it would be way more difficult to justify how many and what type of pieces you would put in a theoretical accessory pack.
@@RacingBrick I feel like they should just sell the bench and extra Minifigures separately, but I guess it's what it is. Again, great review, I like you didn't try to hard sell the product but explained it from a different angle, great work!
As always, lovely review! Your honesty is what draws me to your channel. The freehand camera is too shacky for me and makes me dizzy and do you use the "180° shutter angle rule" for your video (it seems not)?
Thanks! Not sure which "freehand camera" you are referring to, the action shots with the full size table were made with a GoPro attached to my head :) I wasn't at home as I mentioned in the video so I had to use whatever light was available, couldn't afford to tinker with shutter speed :)
You can buy a much more accurate model car for much less money than a creator expert or technic car, they are just different things. If you want to play table football, buy a football table, one made from plastic building blocks obviously won't be as good or as good of a value and it's not intended to be.
@@Inflator82 What's the point of all of LEGO? It's a building brick toy first and foremost, it has it's appeal and limitations. You can buy a very nice full size digital piano for less than what the non functional LEGO piano costs, you can buy a fully working typewriter for less than what the LEGO one costs. Like I mentioned previously you can buy a very nice car model for less than LEGO car. Hell you could buy a real one for price of some of the LEGO cars. But with all of these they are not the same things you buy for the same reasons, are they? If the building brick part is not what you are in for, it's just not for you, which is ok, but other people really like that specific part of the toys.
Your post here just means that you don’t understand the point of Lego, Lego are about the building experience and the satisfaction of putting thousands of pieces together to complete something that looks pretty amazing for what it does.
@@Streetysuperduper That's of course your point of view. Since I was a kid I built and rebuilt Lego to actually play with them. Not just let them sit and collect dust.
Kind of confirms my initial thought: Not bad, but very special interest. Even more special than UCS Star Wars, Marvel or big buildings. But who am I to decide, that a building is "better" than table football set.... My only job is to confirm, that a Hulk Buster riding on a AT-AT would be the ideal set.
I got the set on Friday, built it that evening, spent the weekend with the family while we recorded all the play scenes and did the designer interview, and had yesterday to edit the video :)
I think if it was halfway between the size of the concept and the size of the final product, then no one would have any complaints. The minifigs just feel very cramped and the height of the walls relative to the area of the pitch makes it too difficult to see. Some silted pentagon stickers for the ball (Or a cut out stencil to use a marker with) would have been nice too.
Oh wow, so the nr. of minifigures was fixed from the beginning, but the price was obviously not, they just "forgot" to downsize that too. :)) And did anyone expect a different opinion from the fan designer if he is directly earning 1% of every set sold? Of course he will praise it, but most people who can think for themselves will see that this is a bad LEGO Ideas product because it is neither functioning well enough as a playset, nor is it pretty as a display set. It's not even a good minifigure pack due to the torsos. It will probably sell better than the very niche football stadiums, but that's about it. Sorry, but this is how I feel about this product. It falls in the same category as the Adidas sneakers, botanical collection, life-size bust etc.
You have every right to have your opinion about the set, but judging the fan designer and saying that his opinion is biased because he gets some money is pretty sad.
Couldn't they have used nano-figs and a smaller ball? TBH the set as created is pretty lame - reminds me of those tiny snooker tables for young kids. Not worth £215!
@@petpaltea metal is problematic, TLG is actually trying to get rid of those pieces as they don't manufacture them. All surfaces where metal and plastic meets is a potential disaster, especially if those parts are moving. Metal always wins, just imagine how a pinhole would look like after a few fast rides with a metal axle... You would need bearings and again tons of special stuff that wouldn't really fit in the Technic system.
@@RacingBrick Thanks for this explanation. I get that. I way saying axels just for other possibilities, not just for this set. Actually I was thinking more in the line of specialize piece, specifically for this set, like those metal bars that big football tables have, with some plastic attachments where one would attach minifigures. But this set is already too expensive as it is. Anyway, keep up the good work!
Really adore the designers using the set to create a ton new face prints on a variety of colors. Hopefully they'll eventually spread outside of this set and into other themes.
