I found one of a set 71040 and I paid $459 for it tax, shipping and all, I would have paid $384.12 with taxes from lego so I paid $75.72 over retail. Idk if that’s bad or not but it’s best deal I could find as I’m doubtful lego will replenish stock by end of year.

Fair enough but let me ask one question and then we can let it rest. Lego sets are usually on store shelves for several years. This offers everyone a chance to buy the sets they want. They then have to retire sets as they have to make way for the new sets. At the end of the year when sets are about to retire retailers put sets on clearance because they have NOT sold. People buy them and hold on to them for several years so that a new group of Lego enthusiasts can buy them (albeit at a premium like any rare object.) how does that stop people from experiencing Lego?

@@TheBRICHouse I was just stating what lego does and why. I have heard the frustration from ppl trying to collect these for profit. When lego sees a particular set going for more than it should from re sellers they will re release it to keep ppl from capitalizing on it. I was honestly bummed out when I found this out because that's why I like to collect legos too. I would like to think they would be worth alot of money some day. Especially the mini figure mystery bags lol. I'm honestly not condemning this. Only pointing out what I have read and what other collectors have told me. This actually happened to keep w the stranger things set. I wanted to get it but we waited too long. Then it was selling for 500 plus on re sell sites. Waited another week and lego had a bunch more for regular price.

@@chrisjames5823 I agree there are some who take the Lego investing to an extreme and have no real passion for lego. Unfortunately that is the world we live in. There are some sets I hope to sell for a profit and some I plan to keep forever because they are awesome. But I also give away a lot of sets and plan to give away a lot more. Time will tell and I appreciate your thoughts.

All sets are much less valuable once they are opened. I just had a friend who found a complete Lego train set in his attic from 2004. All the pieces and instructions were there but the tape was open. So I could have sold it on eBay for $350-$400. A sealed version of the same set is selling for $800 on eBay. You should enjoy LEGO and build what you want but maybe buy two so you can maybe sell it in the future.

They jumped when the name slave one was changed but they have been at 290 for awhile. I think they will stay at 200 for several years so I may sell a few in the spring depending on how the economy is and keep one or two

Boxes? Not sure what you mean. I have the shipper boxes for many and I store them in those but I took lots of the sets out so I could do the video.

@@TheBRICHouse That's good. Not a good idea to store things exposed out in the open. I think some people make that mistake because they see them in stores that way, where they have to be. Take it easy.

I am not a big fan of the licensed tv sets. I think Central Perk was great and queer eye was a bust. The office was a very popular show and I think it will appreciate in value depending on how long it stays on shelves.

The James Bond speed champion is one I plan to put together so I only have one. But it will be a great collectors item in the future and when it gets ready to retire I will buy several. I think the James Bond mini fig will actually be quite valuable.

I have only sold Gingerbread houses but eBay and Lego fairs are my top choices.

That set is amazing and I want one. I just don't want to pay $600-$700 for one!

I have other sets that are really valuable not on those shelves and a lot of sets I am giving away for Christmas. I kept them out of the video in case my kids see!

no. I am not a huge fan of the licensed sets. I think Central Perk is great but I do not invest in those too much. But if I did it would be Central Perk and then the Office.

​@@TheLEGOGuru Not for as long as we did. Boys between 3 and 7 years old play with legos. Nowadays at 5 years old kids are playing on PS5's online with their friends. Plus LEGO sells tons of varieties of sets. Too many to invest

He said he gave one to his son. I did the same for years. From the age of two. All four of my children, who grew up on Lego. Now young adults and have doing so well. My 19 year old daughter just graduated Magna, and I surprised her with the Polaroid camera. She was elated and proudly displays it. LEGO is forever. And for Everyone.

Hi Ashton. The set did not really interest me and I don't think it is going to appreciate that much.

You are correct. That is why I have not sold any sets of real value and when I do I will sell them at Lego conventions (I have a sales certificate because I own an S-Corp) which will keep my taxes lower because I can write off the cost of good sold.

@@TheBRICHouse and model kit or toy conventions - btw should’ve clarified my comment as it was geared towards newbies thinking of entering the online business whether it’s Lego or some other toys, etc. Many ebay sellers may be in for a shock come April 2023 as thus new law wasn’t communicated very well until few weeks ago.

Totally agree. That is exactly what I said in my first room tour video, And currently there are too many in the game but this year the weak hands will shake out as the economy continues to worsen. I have a long term strategy and don't plan on selling much of anything for several years.

If you go to brick economy I'm the web it'll show you the increased value of the past retired. Some of only doubled in price but there are a lot that have more than doubled. You can make more than 50 to 100 on some just so you know.

If you buy in discount it’s already profit

The prices of a lot of sets have doubled or even tripled in value if you were to buy them on ebay or bricklink.

Lego is a better investment than putting the money in the bank!

I have two sets. I bought one in 2021 for 140 euros (9/10). I bought the second set two months ago for 300 euros (top condition 10/10). I've been following this set and haven't seen it in 2022 for 200 euros. This set has a lot of potential. The TV series is popular all over the world. 40549 is also worth 15 euro 🙂

Totally agree. That is why I usually buy at Walmart, kohls and Zavvi. I only buy at Lego for special promo sets and double VIP points when advantageous

Great question. O have fun building Lego and spending time with my kids so I don’t count that as work! If you mean just the investment part of it I would say it is definitely worth it. I have invested about $25k into the sets you see and they are probably worth almost double that. Now obviously I would have to sell them to realize those gains but I can assure you my 401k did not double in value this past year! In addition, the seed money I used to buy these sets game from another hobby I have ( bourbon collecting). That is why I have no plans to sell most of these sets for a few years.
