It reminds me of the old overly detailed Megabloks minifigures. It completely defeats the purpose, like the whole point of minifigures is that they’re simple and highly stylized.
@@bookbookbook1 i would, for me costum lego like this which is just too over detailed ruins the look of the lego esthetics of the whole collection, imo i would rather buy an action figure if im going for accuracy
I feel like knockoffs should be called customs because they are the smartest they made a mostly better Lego figure and sell them for a reasonable price. No customs should over 100 dollars. You are basically paying for one mini figure for the price of a great Lego set. And you people who encourage the whole idea that LEGO mini figures should be more expensive is what is making Lego sets more expensive. Like The LOTR sets.
@@SymbioteMaster4 no because these customs are actually made of original lego pieces, thats why they are customs, knock ofs are just off brand mini figs. but i agree in everything else, they are way overpriced
@@SymbioteMaster4 idk 🫢I just told you my pov, he's not anything more than we are so our opinions are just as valuable, therefore don't take it too serious word for word
I agree you are paying more money than the set of the Lego one. Also, I think the only reason Tommy can afford these is because he makes a lot of money from RU-vid. I think anyone who just makes a regular salary would find this a ridiculous purchase. That would also explain how he was able to spend 1 grand on his Spider-Man no way home character showcase.
Because you pay for the persons “time and experience” I’ll admit the customs are pricey, and I’d never spend that much on a minifig, but I can see why people would, some look phenomenal, others look worse than the KO figs
@@razztasticwell, the person is in control of the price since they make it so its never gonna reach the point of your sole enjoyment. I'd say $30 min would be a good price for something like
While yea the custom LEGO fig is definitely a lot better. U can’t ignore the fact tht a lot of people don’t have the money to spend $100 on one minifig. The fact tht your able to get tht much detail on a fig tht costs the same as legos is insaine. Knock off figs are 100x better than how they used to be and in a lot of situations, WAY better then LEGO in generals designs. Just make sure u have a lead detector near. They like to cheap out with the paint a lot.
@@margiebazanmab why would I be heated over somebody else's poor financial decision? If you call somebody out for being an idiot it doesn't mean you're mad at them lol
I feel like only using one character for this video makes it feel like a limited sample size. I've bought multiple customs and knockoffs, and a lot of the time it really is a case-by-case basis on which is better. Not to mention certain characters that lego themselves just havent done
I actually like the original more. The other one's look too detailed, and I love how dirty and scratched it is plus they really look like it's put together in a cave with a box of scraps Also the Lizard custom looks more like someone wearing a Lizard costume than someone who actually turned into a human Lizard
The evolution of knock offs is genuinely nuts. I'm somebody who has bought them since I was young, especially Marvel ones, and the evolution of them is insane. It's funny that the knockoff companies have came up with the movable short legs first before LEGO did. A very nice video too, the comparison is interesting to watch and the editing was top notch
i recently bought a thing of like 9 or so clones off amazon and they’re pretty good. yeah the plastic does feel cheap but the printing makes up for it. the figures have printing in the front, back, and sides of the torso and legs.
@@nic831 They are pretty much in the same category, being made of "official" parts doesn't account for much when you modify them as heavily as these guys have.
Knockoffs seem to be really inconsistent with quality. Sometimes they’re decent, sometimes they’re disgustingly bad. Usually if something is printed on Lego parts, the person or company who made it cares much more about quality than the average Chinese knockoff company who doesn’t print on Lego parts
It's 'inconsistent' because there are tons of different companies with different designs, if you know the best companies to look out for them you're fine.
chances are it will be cheaper to but knockoffs till you get a decent one will cheaper than buying a custom,. unless you are rich or have nothing you would rather use your money on, then buy a knock off or don't buy either
I have only one question : where do the Doc Ock (at the beginning) comes from ? The silver tentacles are a little too brights but he looks really nice !
my problem with customs is that it is too detailed when put in to a lego environment and makes it stick out too much but they really do have more features that improves from the original
just bought the entire bad batch customs for 28, and even tho they aren’t official lego the customs are SO GOOD and some of my fav figs i own. Besides the legs not being as straight you basically can’t tell they aren’t official lego
Gotta correct 1 thing. Lego is a collectors store. It stopped being just a "kids toy" back in 2010. Yes lines like barbie, ninjago etc those are Children directed sets.. marvel, dc. Starwars, etc are collector directed sets. And are targeted Specitically at ADULT collectots.
I think I got the knockoff at dragon con years ago. I don’t know where it is so I have to find it but I definitely remember that face print that the knockoff has
Its hard to believe that the expensive one is from the same person who did the lizard but also £150 is a lot for a minfigure, the closet comparison is micromee based in the UK who sells this at £70 for that it includes the offical minifig and each of 8 pieces that are made from durable resin and paints the parts. A comparison between the ones I mentioned would be nice to see as I personally can't see where the extra £80 difference comes from, I understand that it is almost certainly PAD printed so that would add on between £20-£45 based on CAC prices (camo gregor has comparible level of detail and is £35)
I'll hazard a guess that the custom figure maker didn't pay anything to Marvel / Disney for their IP? If that's the case, then it could be argued that the $150 custom is as much a 'knock off' as the $5 figure.
I'd advise caution with regards to the knock-off minifigures. I bought a few from Etsy and had a near-allergic reaction to the plastic. Like, scratchy throat, feeling like it might close up reaction. If you have any sort of reactions or allergies, better err on the side of caution. I mean, sure, I have odd reactions to things like the paper/ink they use on some UK comics (the Panini Marvel paperbacks, etc.), and Halfords has always made my hands swell up and itch (I said odd). Still, I'd say be careful. Plus, of course, you may not want to get the fake pieces mixed up with your genuine Lego if you like cycling sets and figures in and out of your collection. I'm happy enjoying my purist customs, though I really like the look of those custom Spidey heads over at Firestar Toys.
I do NOT recommend buying knockoffs there are advantages but my point here was to say spend money on people putting in the effort and giving you a quality product Firestar is great!
Yep or sometimes better, just for exemple Sauron by Lego and Sauron KnockOff (and the KO are just waaaaay better) Same for Scarlet Spider by lego and the ko with so good details and shades
In the video it showed knockoff fnaf figures, if you want good looking and apparently good feeling figures I'd try buying from a guy called input brick as he's made very lego looking fnaf figure head molds and I'd love to see a review on them
if the knockoff figure costs 5 and is basically a slightly downgraded version of the 150 minifig then there is literally no reason to buy the 150 fig, sure its worse quality but at the end of the day its like 5% of the price of the actual custom
I think both the Custom and KO are actually worse than the official one. The KO just looks bad. & the Custom looks un-Lego-like & just _too_ clunky. & the faceprint is _uh-gly_ . The official one's helmet actually looks good & isn't bad. If you really want the suit to be more clunky & accurate to the movie, then use the Praetorian Guard armor in silver or maybe the bigger Chima armor (the bulkier one, not the one with the swoopy shoulders), or maybe the big heavy armor (the same one the Hydro suit has in sand green) in silver, with a 1:1 round tile, aka smooth stud on the front. Choose the best armor out of these options & find some arms to snatch (maybe Din Djarin's) & you've got the best version of the Ironman MK-1 suit in minifig form.
Let’s just say, you can get lucky and get one of the really cool figures that are actually better looking than Lego and even of decent quality. But there are very often figures that aren’t even worth that little money they cost. I have a box full of crap and a few that are awesome.
