Bricks And Animals was my little niece’s introduction to LEGO. She still loves building. I just gifted her my mini gingerbread house for Christmas 2023 …not strictly Tiago (but close!). Thanks for giving her a start 😊
The ship in a bottle is easily one of the coolest sets lego has ever put out. I'd love to shake your hand and say thank you for designing something so awesome.. watching this video with my daughter has her mind made up about being a lego creator
Thats humbling to hear, thank you!! I put my all into every set I designed so, I'm happy to hear you say that! Tell your daughter to build, build, build some more and have fun! Then she'll be ready! :)
@@georginacmpalmer she absolutely inherited my love for legos. At least a couple nights a week she sits up creating architecture and little furnished apartments with her legos. Sorted by color and block and really very talented. And of course I'd say that because I'm her dad but she is actually talented. I really hope it's what she grows up for do. Rather than a boring career that she'll hate.
Even when I was "retired" from Lego for almost a decade, Ship in a Bottle was just so unique and visually appealing, even more so than many other great sets, that I still might consider buying it sometime now that I'm back into it!
@@TiagoCatarino Of course! I would like to ask, when you were working at Lego, depending on the kind of set, about how far in advance would a set be discussed / conceptualized before the public would know about it?
@@jedisquidward the usual timeline would be one year of development before products went out to the shelves. Sometimes less, sometimes more. But on average one year. Discussions may start even earlier.
WHOA you designed the Ship In A Bottle?! This is one of my all-time favourite sets. I built it while in the hospital after an accident. Thank you SO much for designing something that helped me through an incredibly rough time.
I would think the 3 in 1 sets would be alot more difficult than a set with a single configuration, takes alot of creativity to come up with 3 different build using the same small pool of pieces and have them be distinct and fun builds, that's alot things to take into consideration designing those.
I remember his comment in other video (Search "Lego Instruction Be Like") "When designing the Ship in a Bottle set, I decided on a round number of stud plates, 300. I was adviced by the packing team to adjust the quantity to 284 because of the counting machine who place the pieces in the bags. The extra 16 pieces were not that relevant, and if it made packaging easier, I just went with it."
I just watched that video, never read the comment section. Funny how to algorithm brought me to this video, that I looked at the comments were a question on an old video received an informative answer only a few hours earlier 😁

I don’t know if this counts but he said in a different video he only gave a few pointers on the organ so technically he helped on the haunted house which is number 10273 he also pitched the idea of the lego Titanic which is set 10294
@@dr.pepper3658 "pitched the idea" lol. There's been talks about a Lego Titanic for as long as I can remember. Not to mention the countless amount of MOC's built of it. Yeah if I were him I wouldn't mention that either smh. Really groundbreaking concept with that one. Sounds like something he came up with on the way to work unprepared for a meeting.🤣 But the Ship In The Bottle is a next level set.👍 Love that we have a former Lego employee sharing company secrets with us online.🤘
I like the small Christmas train a lot. Bought several of them to make one long one with different carriages and locomotives. It even had tanks to hold hot chocolate and a rack to hold different plows for in front of the locomotive. I put them all in an Adventskalender. The only thing it missed though were two extra connector pieces.
Thanks for sharing that. It's fun to learn about all the little Easter eggs and reasons behind colour choices for element that you don't even see in the finished build! I'm looking forward to your last three sets. Please let us know which ones are yours as soon as they are officially announced/available. Were you able to completely finish them up while you were still at TLG, or was there one you had to hand over to another designer for the finishing touches because you ran out of time?

Hello Tiago!! 🙂 Thank you for adding scooters (I LOVE Vespa). Also, the printed pieces with the GT race car, the TC graffiti and the TC seal on Ship In A Bottle are REALLY nice (yes "the company" Ha! Lol).
nice list! i am still a bit puzzled on how your initials ended up on the Ship in a Bottle rather than the initials of the fan designer. I believe this is custom to do.
I love the gingerbread house. I've build this set together with my wife and kids (then 3 and 5) and it was a lot of fun. It was actually the first set I've build in many many years and It was so much fun discovering all the creative ways of building I was not familiar with. Last time I played with lego must have been early 90's, so a lot has changed since then.
I LOVE the Gingerbread House, and I build it every year at Christmas. THANK YOU for such an amazing set. I especially love how candy designs were worked into every bit of the set!
I absolutely love the Ship in a bottle. I got a long while ago and still remains as one of my favorite sets. I have it as a display piece in my home office!
Holy shit... I received the set showed on 14:26 in 2020 as a gift. Recently I watched some LEGO-related vids on RU-vid, found your channel, clicked on this vid and holy shit what a coincedence! I am a consumer of one of your sets and somehow I found out the chennel of its creator...
How much time do you have to build it. And lets say a collaboration like marvel for example, do you guys start working on it before the movie is released? And how does that work? Obrigado!
Damn you designed the Christmas Train! I remember seeing it when I walked through the Lego section (which I sometimes do when I'm on my own in a store that has a Lego section, yes) and I thought it was so beautiful I bought 3 of the bags! :)
I started my career with LEGO Brand Retail in 2016, so I remember seeing many of your 3-in-1's during my early days with the company. Ship in a Bottle was so popular at my store, same with the Gingerbread House. You made many guests happy with your work.
Para mim desses todos o Ship in the bottle deveria ser um set obrigatório para qualquer colecionador 😎 a ginger house esta magnífica, mas ando a tentar “fugir” a esse tema 😂😜
About to rebuild the Gingerbread house for the second time. Picked it up last year after restarting with Lego (winter sets) and it’s just fanatics. At times I want to take a bite out of it. The icing doubling up as snow is just brilliant.
Its really cool to see which sets were designed by you. I actually have some of these so that makes it extra cool to see. I tried to buy the ship in the bottle but I never got to. It was sold out by the time I saved up and it’s never available when I look for it. Still super cool to see who designed it.
@@sammy_sand_utubeyt6901 I actually just got one about a week ago on eBay. I even got a lighting kit for it. I geeked out so much when I finished it. 😂 I really appreciate the reply though!
I love the Ginger Bread House and the ship in the bottle set. They are some of my favorite sets that I have. The ginger bread house really helped make my winter village much better.
Very cool video! I have the ship in the bottle set. It's so cool to see the person who designed it. You did a AWESOME job! 👍🏽 But I was wondering why there isn't an alternative model for the ship that's in the bottle?
I love the ship in a bottle set it’s amazing work Tiago! However, I can’t help but feel sorry for Jake seeing someone else put their initials on a design that was originally his idea
I have more than half of those (discounting the polybags) and they include two of my all time favourites - the ship in a bottle that is always of display at home and the gingerbread house that I put in a window every Christmas (well two Christmases so far) and which I plan to make part of a larger winter scene next year.
i have the ship in a bottle, its up in my room and it looks amazing. great work on that set, its one of the best ive seen in my entire life building lego sets.
Hi! Lego 3 in 1 31091 is one of the first lego sets I ever have) It`s nice to know that is You who designed it! =) This set`s very cool, every design of the machine is so atmospheric) Mini models in general very coolly convey the design of real machines
I built the gingerbread house with my family over the holidays. Such a fun build with tones of cool details. So cool to see the guy who designed it! Very masterful! Cheerse.
I have the space shuttle set and it's really neat. Now I'm working on a personal project of turning the red truck into a Freightliner FL86 cab over semi truck, just like... wait for it... Optimus Prime in vehicle mode! 😁
The gingerbread house and ship in a bottle are some we have made and they are awesome. I prefer some of the builds made for adults now my kids are young adults themselves.
So you're the mind behind these sets! The internet is really a magic place :) Some of these sets really caught my eye from the first time I saw them. That Christmas tree is so unique and original, yet very simple and elegant.
I love the video, but one thing stood out while watching, while talking about a set, I wish you showed photos of it for more than just half a second. No offence, but looking at your face while you talk carries little information value.
I have so many Lego sets, but some of yours are actually my favorite!!They work together so well to complete my Lego city. Great job on the Lego sets👍 I have the train, skate house, and the 3 in one F1 car and built the forklift. Amazing job!
These are great sets, when I first saw the ship in a bottle I was amazed! Tiago I want you to know you have a very awesome talent for creating sets and I admire your passion for lego!
Thank you for sharing with us these amazing stories! :) I really liked the story behind the ship in a bottle set! I'm having few Ideas projects now posted on the platform, do you maybe have some tips on what should I pay attention to pass a review stage successfully? :)
Thank you! As for ideas theres no secret formula unfortunately. Otherwise I would be pumping out ideas models now that I am on the outside :p but be mindfull of the guidelines when uploading, dont go crazy big on the models, and maybe pick up some popular IPs that LEGO isnt working with themselves, or that are not owned by other toy brands. I have to think of some ideas myself! Good luck out there!
@@TiagoCatarino ha-ha right :) My project is at 9k now (Home Alone) and 3 things I worry the most about are size (3k pieces), stability (it's digital and I am not sure about the roof) and maybe season-related thing ) Once again thank you for your videos - they are super interesting )
Why did you quit your dream job at Lego? 3,5 years ain't a long time. Edit: just came home from christmas gathering and the family had your ginger bread house. Didn't know that you designed that one. They (and we) really like it! Good job.
By the way, if you want a Lego review of the Lego 40337, then go to the RU-vid channel technically bricking with 15 subs and 31 videos and I will have a review there
I wish that TLC put the designer's name on the back the lego sets. You can't imagine buying an music album from a producer whithout knonwing who's performing...
Hello from Romania! I’m a big fan of your content and at the beginning of the video i was thinking that i want a set design by you, and i own that dog polybag 😂 i will search for it and put it on display! Thanks for your work, i really like doing lego and watching your videos, thats what I’m doing now!
On the box why is there a burning fish on the roof of the modular poolside holiday? It sorta looks out of place with no obvious roof access? Where credit is due: Ship in the Bottle is really cool. I'm not a big Lego fan but I'm thinking about purchasing it.
I think the ship in bottle is a cool set in all, but the 284 pieces , to just simply drop in, are a little simple i think and fustrating. Maybe only for me, but i try to buy legos with good price/piece ratio. So basically its gonna cut off a lot of building, those pieces. But again, you designed it, not me so , gg for your work.
Now way dude!! I have the turbo track racer. It Is so cool to meet the guy that designed (at least helped) make it. You can't see it but I'm virtually giving you a hand shake
I have little santa with locomotive toy. I put it every time for Christmas on a Lego square for decoration. Hope that you wil create smth. awesome soon. All the best...
Hey, could you make a video about how is this process of making a lego project? Like, how do you choose the pieces, do you use a software? How are the things done there?
Can you give any insight to why lego ideas consistently denies really creative and cool concepts and passes a lot of meh? I know the official reasons they give, I just don’t think they make sense.
