Lego Sets Retiring in 2024 - Comparing our Top 5 sets

Myself and my good friend Duncan discus Lego sets that are due to retire at the end of 2024 - We both compiled a top 5 list of sets that we think are the best Lego sets to buy before they retire, either for investment or for personal use.
We also discuss our 'Dark Horse' sets - those sets that potentially could do quite well once retired, but that not many other Lego investors are talking about, as well as the sets that we have most of and the sets we think should be avoided.
Please note that these our only our personal opinions on the Lego sets to get before they retire - we are not financial advisors and suggest that anyone thinking of buying Lego sets for investment to do their own research first.

I still can't believe the A-frame cabin is already retiring. It's on shelves for less than two years. This set got me into Lego.

Mos Eisley is one of my favourite builds. I took it apart nearly a year ago for decorating purposes so I have a it to build again. Might get on to it after my current project gringotts bank.

You two deserve a BAFTA award! That was probably one of my favourite videos you have done Ian, brilliant. You two work very well, great sense of humour. Looking forward to 2025 reflection on investments ?? I’ve bought 9 of the Mos sets and I have to agree with your friend as I also think the Yavin 4 set will do well. Surprised not to see Liea helmet not in the top 5 or LOTR Brickheadz ( I think they’re still retiring this year hopefully?) Thanks Matt. Not sure about a BAFTA just yet, maybe a Razzie! Lol! The Leia helmet and LOTH sets were just outside my top 5. I will probably do a top 20 or 30 in a couple of weeks just to go thrthe sets we missed talking about. You have a lot more Mos Eisley sets than I do.

Can't believe NINJAGO City Gardens didn't get any love! The first 2 in the series have done really well, and I think this one is the best out of the 4 in the series. My really dark horse is 75341 Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder. Almost all UCS have done really well in retirement, and I don't see Lego making another one of these any time soon. If I can pick it up at 30-40% off, I'll be grabbing a bunch. Looking forward to watching you 2 discuss how you did in a years time! Great video!

Thanks. Yes, there were a few sets we didn't talk about, include Ninjago City Gardens. I did buy one of the Luke Landspeeders myself as I think also it could potentially well once retired.

Good call on the F1 Mercedes-AMG speed champions pack. Lego are definitely releasing more F1 speed champion cars, and there is a rumour of an F1 theme coming to lego in its own right. These retired F1 cars will be sort after to collectors. Also, don't overlook the Lord of the Rings brick headz. LOTR is getting some new sets, plus a huge fanbase, the retired brickheadz should do well. Loving the channel. 😃

I was wondering about buying the €850 at-at for an investment, but the box is just so massive that I wasn't sure where I would even sell it. I thought that brick fairs would be good for this, because you wouldn't have to worry about shipping and people stealing the figs and returning it. But you're saying that it's not really good to sell there as well?

I tend to avoid the really big sets as they take up a lot of space, tie up a large amount money and can be difficult to sell on, even as shows. There is always a market for these bigger sets though and it will still probably increase in value once retired.

Hi, some good choices in there, I like the F1 double pack and walle brick headz. My dark horse would be the spider tank as ive mentioned before the Bo-Katan Kryze figure is selling well on its own and there are a few rumors around that we could be getting the Bo-Katan Kryze helmet next year. They have done another version of this figure but it did not come with the arm printing. Its recently been stocked at B&M so im waiting to see if there will finally be a discount on this set. Im unsure about A frame cabin, its a nice set but it is high priced and would i buy it over rrp? Maybe upto £200 but i dont see myself spending over that, so I would prefer to put my money elsewhere.

Thanks for your comments. Much appreciated. Yes, I do have a few Spider Tanks sets myself, so although not in my top 5, I still think they are worth getting. I see what you say about the A frame cabin. It's still a great looking set though, and I guess time will tell if it's going to be an investment hit or not.

Bonjour Iain & Duncan ! great for this Shock Duo Your interactions were relevant and having a different opinion was very interesting. You should start this duo again from time to time on your opinions of Lego sets and purchases. For my part I also think that sets with numerous figurines are to be preferred. For the SpeedChampions I am a little more reserved about your analysis.. especially for the Mercedes duo because In France they were very often with big promotions in a large supermarket chain... From one country to another the offers are a few different times on the sets and even the favorites for purchases... These LEGO investments are not easy... A BIG congratulations again for your video which was very pleasant to watch.

I actually got box 36 at Costco online you can join as a customer via online I have a trade card look into it esp you with lego hauls and I've never had 1 set damaged

Another great video. Its made me realise my mistake. I’ve only ever bought one set of anything. Except the Lamborghini! I have 2 in box and one built. I guess I need to start trying to pick up multiples.

Thanks David. I guess it depends on what your long term investment plans are I guess. As long as you have the space and can get hold of additional sets without getting yourself into debt, then I say go for it!

Multiples are good, but as always if you get it wrong then you are either stuck with multiple sets that are not selling at the right price to you or the shelve life is extended and you have to hold for even longer. I do buy multiple sets only when they are on a very big discount so even if i have to sell under rrp to get my money back im still making some money. Depends on the platform you are selling. If your selling on amazon you could buy 50+ of a small set (£5-15) but if your selling on Ebay that will be alot of work to sell. Good luck.

@@mrwillb3227 thank you so much for your reply. Very helpful. I’ve only started collecting in the last 2 years. I buy sets I want to build but then put them away lol. I never really started buying to invest but it has certainly crossed my mind recently. I haven’t ever actually sold anything I have. However it’s far too early as most of my sets are still current. Only a few have retired. I have been keeping my eye out for reduced sets that interest me but not yet found anything I’ve wanted to buy a few of at a good price.

It will be interesting to see if Wall-e and Eve retires this year. Brick Fanatics have it as December 24 however Bricktap is saying December 2025. Totally agree on Tales, A-Frame Cabin, The Office, Pink Parrot, Mercedes Speed Champion. I do agree on the Cantina but it's too £££ for me to invest in right now. Not sure I agree on Yavin 4. Minifigs is a fair point but the rest of the set is a bit meh. Could result it being under-hoarded though I guess so might just pay off. I think the storm trooper mech could do OK. Be good form army building.

Very nice video Iain and Duncan, you guys are a good team 😉 I agree with you about the ‘dont buy’ set, the bts set is not populair at all so i will not pick any of those up. However i dont see the Globe set as a big winner for a few reasons: The high price, no minifigures and the video’s i saw from people who build it all say that it is not that fun to build because it is very repetitive. But for sure several of the sets that both of you mentioned could potentially do quite well. (And yes, the star wars brickheadz double pack has been removed from retirement list of brickfanatics)

Thanks Peter. The reason why I put the globe as a dark horse rather than in my top 5 was because it's a set that potentially could do well, but may not. The World Map set took me by surprise last year and that set had a high price and no figures either. I guess time will tell.
