Loving this wave. Can’t wait to see the McLaren F1. That’s the one I really want out of all of them. Don’t think it’s a surprise they’ve put it in the double pack this year lol. Will be getting all of them upon release with my VIP points. Would love them to do some more F1 cars next year (like last year’s Mercedes). As they already have an Aston Martin licence, perhaps we could get an F1 car?

And TBF of all the cars that justify having a billion decals... an LMPh is right up there. The Porsche 919 Hybrid (this car's older brother) was the same, heaps of stickers. In fact Lego has massively reduced the number of decals compared to the real cars! 😂😂

Ferrari is definitely my favorite out of the three though I think you also sold me on the Pagani with its realistic shaping, and innovative building solutions. On the fence still with this one as it feels the most straightforward/sticker heavy and uninteresting out of the three. Still for what it is does a good job again of representing the real car. Thanks for the update on the McLaren set as that one I'm the most excited to see out of this wave.

the problem isn't that it has so many stickers. It's the fact that sticker colours still don't match the brick colour. Considering Lego keeps jacking up the prices, you would think they put some effort at better colour matching.

I agree. Imo, the issue is with the name itself limiting the line, making it too focused on race cars. Altho that is understandable as it appeals to more people since they can easily recognize a ferrari & lambo yet overlook other iconic cars with ‘boxier shapes’.

The striped red pieces *should* have been printed. Black and red patterns appear in so many official sets, and are great for mocs. Not to mention that all of those pieces are very common now, so it's not like people that want those colours would be missing out. The white is a different story, but I would have prefered prints for most of the red stickers, and transparent stickers for the white pieces.

For me, this is easy: Pagani is a must-buy, and I might get the Porsche. But I’m not really a car person, so what I care about is the build experience and the parts. Porsche has some great new parts. Pagani has an interesting build, great new parts, some useful not-so-new parts, and is entirely not-red. The Ferrari looks like a good build, and has some nice parts, but I just don’t tend to build in red, so red parts don’t really help me much and tend to languish in my collection

I do find the custom chassis builds from the speed champions line far more interesting utilising the pieces you can use in your collection rather than a premoulded piece allows for far more custom building and just shows how far the pieces can go and what unique ways they can be used, the theme in a nutshell. This wave is far more complicated and display orientated rather than play and i'm here for it but understand that a good balance is needed. The Pagani is my favourite out of the 3 solo cars but the Porsche would come 2nd and the Ferrari 3rd just seems to similar in build to the F8 Tributo maybe in grey i would have liked it more and the Pagani in a Cream/Tan colour.

@rarewhiteape
@rarewhiteape Год назад
Tweezers were mentioned in the review, but that can still be tricky. A technique I learned from a friend who worked as a sign writer for years, is to soak the pieces in a bowl of water with a drop of dishwashing detergent and apply the sticker to the wet surface. The detergent will allow the sticker to slide about when you line it up. You can also dip the sticker in the water for even more lubrication. Once you’re happy with the alignment, carefully press down to squeeze the water out, then wipe away with some paper towel and leave to dry for a few minutes. When wiping you can wipe from the middle out, or from one edge to the other, and that way you won’t trap any water underneath. My sign writer buddy used this technique to place large stickers on real cars, and I’ve been doing the same for ages on both large Technic panels and smaller pieces. For example I applied the reflective panels on the inside of the recent space shuttle cargo doors this way and they’re all lined up perfectly. Hopefully it will be helpful to you if you give it a go.
@Saftkeur
@Saftkeur Год назад
I think of this batch, the Utopia is my favorite! It might not be my absolute favorite car, but the LEGO version does such an impressive job with the shaping of it (despite it IMO being one of the most challenging to do) and I also personally like to build a lot in bluish dark gray and black, the fact that the printed windscreen is actually pretty color-accurate is an unexpected plus. I'd love it simply as a parts pack, but also the full build is beautiful. That said, the jump to $25 is a bit painful, considering these cars were often below $20 just a year or so ago (admittedly some of those were still 6-wide). I get the price increases are a thing but this is feeling like a price increase on top of the price increase they already did, so I'd probably hold off on the Utopia until it's on sale at some point, or possibly even just try to get the windscreen off Bricklink or something.

Definitely seems like Porsche signed off on this set, but Penske didn't. Instead of "Porsche Penske Motorsport" it's simply referred to as "Porsche Motorsport". And no sponsor decals anywhere, such as Ansys, BOSS, Mobil 1, and Tag Heuer. I suppose that's not a huge deal, given they did the show car version with the white striping at the front and black striping at the rear. However, I will definitely be buying a couple of these to have whenever the community can create a sticker sheet for the #6 and #7 liveries respectively. I think the #7 will be easier to pull off given the shark fin was molded in black and the one on the #6 was white, but I'm sure a workaround for that wouldn't be too difficult.

The Porche is not as exciting to me, either by the actual car's design or the set build, as the lovely Ferrari or the awesome Pagani, which is the set I'm most looking forward to. I just love its design, and the set hews very closely to its inspiration. I'm also looking forward to these sets as parts packs, especially the new SNOT brick 3386, a part that has been high on my wishlist for over a decade. The new 1x3 plate with rounded ends and open studs is most welcome, too. I'm also glad to see the modified wheel well part which removes a plate's worth of depth allowing for lower profile builds mirroring the dimensions of the real cars; the effect is notable and welcome. With Speed Champions' foray into licensed properties like Fast & Furious and James Bond, I'd love to see them tackle the old Speed Racer anime designs in this line, as it's a good fit, and the designs from the official Speed Racer film sets just kinda missed the mark for me. They were fun, but I'd love to have a Mark V executed with the same eye towards accuracy, even if only as a standalone set. Kudos to Chris Stamp and the Speed Champions Garage for continuing to crank out these amazing intricate sets, and for continually innovating and pushing what can be done with the brick at this scale. I'm not even a car guy or a racing fan, but Speed Champions continues to be one of my favorite lines to collect every year for the great models, the building experience, and the parts they offer. Just a fantastic line all the way around.

I really like detailing of the LEGO Speed Champions Porsche 963. But I just want to say that as you can see the real car has tires with the Michelin printing, which is completely missing from the LEGO version. Anyway, great review and I'm really waiting for your review about the new LEGO Speed Champions McLaren double pack!
@RacingBrick
@RacingBrick Год назад
I don't think printing on such small surfaces is something that can be pulled off easily. There's are special wheel covers used in a few Speed Champions sets like the 75891 Camaro, but even those simulate fat tires with enough space for the print.
