A good thing about no blue print is that the binoculars can be mixed and matched with other clones. Would be nice to have a black line at least though.
@@omarbaba9892 because if you follow the battlefront II model it doesn't have a black stripe. But yeah it sucks. They as always show they don't really know what they're doing.
I can say my favorite thing about this is the fact we got a new mould for the macro binoculars, hopefully we can receive a Commander Bly minifigure this year!
We have to! Considering it's mostly only specialist characters from BF2 that has them, Bly is the most obvious choice if they're trying to reuse molds; and we know how much Lego likes reusing molds. I'm hoping for Bly next year, but maybe he'll be in a 20th ROTS anniversary set! Here's hoping
@@kimjongun2536 I don't know if they have it in the clone wars or not, I don't see why they wouldn't, but this is apparently based off EA's Battlefront 2. The 501st do have blue on their upper back in both Battlefront the Revenge of the Sith, black series, etc. Lego goofed up
The hole helmet seems to work incredibly well for troopers with visors or macros. The hole is in the proper location for both those accessories. Rangefinders are the main issue where it should attach at the ear port. I agree that a piece with a single hole for the rangefinder would be the best choice. It would have a good range of reuse potential: -Rex -Fives (S4/5) -Wolffe -All of the BF2 P2 Officers The main issue for a new visor is that there would technically need to be two new pieces. Cody, Fox, Thorn, Doom, and the Kamino Commander all have extra accessories on their visor (antenna and headlight (minus Thorn)) The heavy troopers in BF2 lack these accessories. This would leave one or the other inaccurate if only one piece was made.
Something that I think is easy to overlook is not just the quality of the build, which in my opinion is high, but also the quality of the parts selection. I am starting to find that especially in troop builder packs, a good parts selection is invaluable. Sure, Bricoleur Bricks is going to make something awesome out of it no matter how boring the parts selection is, but I love to see that this pack has the modified 1x2s with bars on the side, ratchet pieces, curved elements, wedge plates, technic elements, and studs on the side brackets. Additionally, including two brackets for the heavy troopers is great for folks who want to build up more sizeable backpacks, and while the lack of waistcapes and pauldrons is unfortunate, that is easy and cheap to fix. Do I see a ton of alternate builds from this set? Due to the lack of large plates and standard bricks, no, but I do see these elements being a great addition to parts collection of many lego builders, making the extra parts more of a treat than a bullet to bite when purchasing multiples of this set.
@@crazydog1750 he’s one of them, yeah! He’s the guy who made some of the best looking ones. He made a gunship, a republic fighter tank, and an atte, each using a number of the 501st battle pack, and they all looked fantastic, especially for alternate builds! I will say though, I built the gunship and while it looks amazing, it’s definitely not for play based on durability. One of the things I loved about the 501st battle pack was that with it being our first great clone set in years and with me being of age to be able to afford more than one or two, I found myself making lots of different things with it and I had a revelation: Bricoleur Bricks’ gunship moc requires only the parts from four 501st clone trooper sets. At retail, that’s $120, which is around what the last gunship cost, but for awhile I’ve been able to find the set consistently for $24, making the actual price less than $100(just over with tax). Why is that significant, well, four of those packs means not only the parts, but SIXTEEN clone troopers and eight battle droids, and the moc offers many of the same playable features as the last version of the set. Yes, the durability is less, but that can be fixed with a few parts that most fans already have, and if you just want it for display anyway, it already fills that role. $30 felt like way too much at release, especially because I (1) hated the inclusion of both vehicles when we would’ve been fine with just one and (2) because I thought they made both builds bigger than they needed to be just to raise the price point of the set unnecessarily. However, the reality of alternate builds means if they make small sets with good parts, we can get far better value than we ever would out of the larger sets.
Excellent review Ryan! I concur with your thoughts on the officer and the new macrobinocular piece. However, while I really appreciate the printed tile for the heavy troopers’ packs, I feel the packs are a bit small. One or two more pieces really would have been great to give a more substantial feel to them.
It'd be even cooler if this became a theme-212th battle pack followed by a 212th specialist, a shock trooper followed by a shock trooper specialist... that'd be nice.
It’s nice not having a “filler” build of landscape to increase the piece count to justify the price… although, it was kinda nice having extra pieces to have for whatever else you wanted. As a side not though, the biggest bummer in my opinion is not having a cloth kama for the commander.
I can forgive LEGO when the figure is supposed to sit down in a set, but we have plenty of clones other than the officer to pilot the cannon. And he isn't even depicted as sitting down on the box art-LEGO really cheaped out.
I'm probably going to take the kama from the airborne trooper in Grievous' starfighter (which is a great set regardless of Obi-Wan's barely noticable inaccurate torso) and put it on the commander from this set. Extra points because it'll let him be able to easily fit in the AT-TE
@@Mothbean Oh yeah. I bought Grievous's fighter a little bit before it retired because I thought that the ship was just such a cool design. So tiled off, it looked amazing. Anyways, really glad I did since that clone is now worth $80 on its own 🤣.
I dont know why the stopped adding the kamas when they have so many figures with the printing there instead but were able to do it 10 years ago, I have mine from when I was a kid and they are still perfectly fine to put on the current troopers
Personally, I think the advantage to the macrobinoculars being unmarked is that I can give spare ones to, say, my 212th troopers from the AT-TE. Since they aren't marked by legion, they can fit with any type of Clone of any legion or Phase.
Man this set is so close to being perfect imo, but the lacking waist cape, helmet holes, lacking satchels and lacking visors/prints just feel lazy. Like if they put 5% more effort in, this would be a perfect sequel.
I think that because lego aren’t doing skirts for clones anymore and printing them they should give them atleast the duel molded legs, which gives it a 360 colour for the legs instead of the skirt only being on the front. I’ve had this idea for a while and I want to spread the word
I like how you did this review. You stayed more unbiased and were true to the set. You pointed out the issues and moved on. It didn’t feel like a negative video. Good job man!
I miss the fabric kama skirts. They felt more "premium" in hindsight. A new clone helmet with only one hole is an intriguing idea, but seems like a bad thing to have a mold of such limited use in their inventory, but they also have a lot of unique character heads/headpieces for other themes so I guess my point is moot.
@@Schlesticle Accidently replied to this guys comment that was meant to be an original comment but.... to reply to you: You know for a fact they PURPOSELY made it bigger because they fans would pay more for it? You've heard LEGO come out and say officially along the lines of: We made this build bigger than it needed to be so fans will pay more for it." Thats a stretch my man. Its solid builds, and solid figs, good price.
This set has some flaws, but I'm actually going to give a hard disagree on your criticism about the macrobinoculars. They should be unprinted. The lack of print on attachment pieces is nothing new for Lego, and for good reason. Aside from a basic color, the Clone trooper attachment pieces (Rangefinders, visors, floodlights) have always been unprinted. That way, those pieces and the extras they come with can fittingly be placed onto any other trooper without any unfixable inaccuracy. If you want a version with the accurate printing for a specific type of trooper, you can decal/paint them yourself. They consistently give you a blank slate so it can be fittingly applied to potentially any other trooper figure.
To create a Clone Company (144 troopers) you'd need 20 of normal battle packs and 16 of the new specialist battle packs. Clone Officer could represent a clone Sergeant, which leads a squad of 9 troopers, ergo, you need 16 Sergeants (144/9), which means you need 16 specialist battle packs, which totals to 64 troopers, leaving 80 troopers from normal battle packs, which you need 20 of
@@mathewcurtis8484I mean it’s not a mistake. They did it intentionally. Tho I don’t care as much as the kamas. If they just skip on quality they should probably just make the set like 15 dollars which is what it should be instead of 20 or include kamas
Best thing about this set are the 4 inverted cut out roof tiles that were exclusive to the DB5. A piece that is so perfect for MOCs. And 4 nice silver metallic teeth
if you look at the squad composition of real world armies and how they are typically constructed then i think you will want almost as many of these as the original 501st pack. usually you would see a squad of 9 broken down into 2 fire teams lead by the squad leader. now you can develop your squad to be 1 squad leader, 2 heavys, 4 regular troopers, and almost 2 sniper/specialists (mix in the jet trooper here.) gonna need 4 of these for every platoon plus 6 of the originals
One thing I do appreciate about this set is that 3/4 of the figures use both the helmet holes and look fairly appealing to the eye, plus the prints don’t seem to be bad with the blue stripes being more accurate (also I’ll likely just switch the rangefinder for an extra visor piece). Overall I like the set, I think for 20 bucks it’s a good build and a decently worthy successor to the first with pretty unique clones
Lego needs reviews and positive feedback on their sets before they come out, so they send them to ppl like Ryan to give them, and the public, a general overview of the product
Bruh I find people like you annoying because you act like RU-vidrs buying dozens (online by the way which does matter) somehow effect other people being able to get them. Especially since kids would only be buying one
@@omarbaba9892 it does kind of affect it tho when the first 501st battle pack my friends in america (one in florida, new york and california) all couldnt find a single one until december and even then they said they could only find 1 or 2 on the shelf. 3 if your lucky.
4:20 the lines on the original 501st battlepack are actually only lower on the early production run, later versions of the set have lines going to the top like the new 2023 helmets
@@MandRproductions hi! I'm not your mom but I got this lesson from my grandpa. I am always happy that I spent time with him. I hope you do the same with your parents, and have a happy Christmas!
Yeah it’s still crazy we all just let them get away with making the most demanded LEGO set ever cost 2x what people obviously had in mind. Capitalism at its worst.
@@MandRproductions yup but what can we do.. :/ Hopefully there's a sale in the future that brings em down a couple bucks but until then, I'll probably pick up a couple.
I can say I'm very disappointed with this set, so many missed opportunities along with the false advertising on the box, I will probably only purchase 1-2.
I've been only seeing target with the $30 price hike. And with Walmart having the set for $24 dollars at least for me. Which for 4 more dollars isn't bad at all! I still find it a crime that there's no kama or waist cape for the captain! It really took the magic and creativity you could do for your troopers
“Not taking advantage of Fan demand here” I don’t really think they did that on the first one, at all. It was exactly what everyone asked for at a good price. If anything they gave exactly what fans demanded.
I always enjoy watching your reviews, I see it as if you give the set a high score (7 or above) and I can personally look past the complaints you have, I’ll know I’ll likely enjoy the set. Really hoping we get a regular Stormtrooper battle pack soon, been wanting to army build those for years now.
I completely agree with all your opinions on this BP. Everything is close to being perfect it just doesn't take that one extra leap. Still a great pack I will definitely pick up a few.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand why people don't like the visor on the heavy trooper, it looks good in my opinion and I think its recieving hate for no reason, but this set is definitely one I am going to buy
No it’s already overpriced. If u look at inflation it’s already 5 dollars too much, and pauldrons and kamas cost like 5 cents a piece to create so they are just trying to be greedy
3:31 I’m not sure there’s an easy fix for this design wise, its an extremely small part in an extremely thin helmet part. The functional fix of course is to use more than one finger. Or put it in the position you’d want. All around not a bad set hopefully we can get some basic clones soon. Need those more than any special colored group
And because Lego waited ages to reveal the small Star Wars lineup, they're getting burnt. It's going to be another week before the LAN people can even post their reviews, lol.
I'm happy with the Heavy Clones, wish Lego previously released a white satchel to add to it but sadly there isn't. Worst case I dip one of the brown satchels in paint and there you go, more game accurate.
wew those are a lot of nitpicks , lite we all love the 8014 but those back then didnt even have leg printings and asking now for armprinting and printing on tiny detail pieces is a bit much
There’s a reason I like the blue stripe, it’s so people can customize there clone troopers more Bonus: and so people can do the battlefront 2 meme “the sector is clear”
They have to have 2 holes in the helmet so that if someone chokes on it they will have just enough space to breathe and before you say what if the holes are full, they won’t be because as you said in the video the rangefinder easily falls out, that is to make it so someone can breathe.
I'm very happy that Lego is starting to understand the audiences that buy this set it perfectly strikes the balance between something kids will like and collectors will be satisfied with it too
I’m just happy that we can now add stuff to the phase 2 helmets. For the longest time the helmets had to bare with the exception of the captain Rex minifig Edit. I was wrong about the Captain Rex minifig
Honestly, I can overlook the problems for the clones because of the fact that we’re actually getting specialized clones. I understand why you are upset about the problems, because they are annoying, but since I won’t get a ton of these, it doesn’t matter to me. I really wish we got the waist capes tho, that sucks
Everyone was losing their minds over the new 212th helmet because they don't end in a point, but nobody's talking about the absence of blue on the upper backs on the 501st
@mandrproductions Do you think Lego will release a bad batch commander Cody also what is your opinion on mw2 like the multiplayer and the campaign not warzone 2.0
I'm definitely gonna pick this up when it drops, but I do wish that Lego would fix their helmet problems. The misprinted heavy helmets, the 212th helmets, and the false advertising is just really disappointing. It would be great to just have accurate prints and designs. but I guess they "didn't even consider it" lol
I tend not to complain about LEGO sets, but I would’ve like a pauldron for the heavy troopers at least. I love the figs in general but they missed the mark by such a large margin
The heavy troopers have the same type of "pauldron" as Commander Neyo, who Lego also didn't give a pauldron, and it is much smaller than regular clone or stormtrooper pauldrons so an actual piece for it would look ridiculously oversized.
I just got this set and i have to say that the build is awkward but the minifigures. Oh my god the minifigures are the reason why im getting more after the n1 microfighter, slave 1 microfighter and 332nd bp
