LEGO Studios Scary Laboratory REVIEW! 2002 set 1382! 

This set is very influencial for the Brickfilming Community. To promote it, LEGO hired the talented animation studio "Spite Your Face Productions" to make a brickfilm with the aspiration of being something that you could recreate at home. The film ended up being "Scary Thriller" one of the first Brickfilms to be seen by many people, and is still influencial today alongside many Brickfilms of the duo like "Doc Ock's Peril" and "The Han Solo Afair" Tony Mines, one of the two animators sadly passed away last year, but his legacy will live on in Brickfilming history.

I'm kinda surprised Lego never tried to do somethink like this again, a theme based on movie sets from Golden Age Hollywood films with an emphasis on making your own fan films. Especially with how much they've tried to push apps that play along with the sets, it seems like an obvious choice. I know for The Lego Movie 2 and maybe also Ninjago there were one-off "make your own movie" type sets but this is so much more charming and obviously complete feeling

I always wanted this as a kid, but never got it. That Frankenstein's monster minifig was dope. 🔥🔥

Never had any of the Studio sets, but this is an amazing precursor to Monster Fighters. Though more substantial, and significantly more minifigs I liked how the Monster Fighters set really improved on this conceptionally with how the table was geared, and the light brick was used to simulate the laser function. Would have been nice to see it larger as the car was a big part of the build, but at least it played into the jail escape feature. As dated as Monster Fighters is the theme still feels hugely imaginative, and brilliant for the time. That one minifigure in the set though is a dead ringer for Roger Moor's 007.

I really liked the original wave of LEGO Studios sets. They were original, they invited creativity and they actually pushed you into discovering filmmaking. I think I just got a couple of small ones, however, because they were nearly impossible to get here back then (20 years ago online shopping wasn't really a thing still, children). I remember pestering my late father so much for the set that also had the camera, that he just went ahead and bought me an actual Sony hand-held camera and a bunch of accessories for me to connect it to my Windows 98 computer. Yeah it was the "rich kid" solution but getting LEGO sets from other countries was THAT hard. Still, I had a ton of fun with it. Good times.

One of my favourite LEGO sets ever for minifigures. Some very unique and cool minifigures in here, especially for the time.

Such a great classic set, I would love to own it some day.

god im so lucky that ive had this one as a kid. the frankensteins monster figure and the brain brick always stuck with me as one of the coolest bricks

I had the Werewolf Attack set from this theme. I got it mostly for the werewolf minifigure! Also, they gave my evil tree two of the same eyes and I didn't have a way to contact Lego and ask for a replacement back then.

Why they havent used 2x8 plate up there?! Cool looking but not a good set. Design is all over the place. I do however would consider it a great partpack. It was also time where they started to separate builds from main build instead using baseplates. Not a fan.

So glad I had them all, I didn't liked the filming idea but I loved the monsters, if I was younger I would have collected the new Monster Hunters

Wait, the aerial on the left, it looks as though it's glowing. Was this done in post? or is it just the light shining through it just right? Either way, it really adds to the atmosphere.

Parts of this set remind me of the Time Twisters. Maybe someone could use it as inspiration to MOC a home base for them as a counterpart to the Time Cruisers' lab.

minor nitpick, but i think you swapped the skulls, the friendlier one is supposed to be on the skeleton, whereas the sinister one is supposed to be in the jar edit: never mind, you brought it up in the video

I'm not sure about the likeness comments you make regarding Lego minifigure heads. Even today, we sometimes see licensed heads being used for non-licensed minifigures, or the same head being used for multiple actors. The Table Football set includes a couple face prints that have been used to represent real people in the past.
