LEGO TECHNIC 42042 Crawler Crane - Speed Build for Collecrors - Technic Collection (12/13)

I had this as a kid. So much fun.

This totally amazing model, I had the orignal version of a crane like this but back then it was just a manual type with no motor systems! But it was a dream come true as I was a child of 9 and loved lego since my 1st set when I was 5 years old? I then spent about 35 years after the age of 5 slowly building up a very large collection of the old type of lego bricks and the old techic lego! I even about 10 years ago the right amount of lego to build a very big lego spaceship with lots of cool working techic parts inside and out and even working lego lights inside and of course some outside! It had 6 decks with bed rooms and a engine room with the old type flashing battery box with leds for the engine at the back of the ship and a lift and a bridge for the crew plus a set of big folding air powered nuematic landing legs ( they were damn hard to design and test and just did the job of hold up this very big lego spaceship ) It had a nice long bottom deck as a shuttle bay and a set of big folding doors! It took me about 4 weeks to build as 2 weeks of that were to design those landing legs so they folded up and down into the bays for them? Just shows you what you can do with allot of nice lego.

I built this when I was young like it was nothing now I'm building it again and it seems bigger of a deal and it is taking forever.

Your videos are a relaxing activity to me, it's almost like building myself the sets but I just let my brain do the work watching you. Keep doing them man they are awesome.

I love this set.

Just got this as a birthday present, and about half way through building it. You make it look a lot easier than it is :), took me the better part of a day to get so far and I'm probably looking for a few more hours. Probably didn't help that I mixed the parts from the different bags; won't do that with my next one :). I notice that the forward-back movement (the one done by the tracks), is quite jittery. Is this maybe because of the universal joint that's involved in transfering power from the motor to the tracks? If I had another universal joint in the kit I'd try to make it a CV joint and see if the jitter is still there, but alas, I don't :(. Love the manual gearbox style mechanism used to transfer power from the motor to various parts of the machine; such a shame it end's up being covered up.

just finished mine, the "jerking" motion when going forward is most annoying, but it seems to be part 6036892 , its like a little clutch, which slips when the force is too great, thinking of replacing it

Looks great! I think the blues are a bit off in your video - could it be that your camera is set to color-compensate for natural lighting (3200K) and you film this indoors with hot / blue light (5000K+) ?

How it can works when red gears are connected?

Why does the claw have gears if it cannot move the teeth and have no power train connections? Did you miss something?

Pity none of these models are available to buy still, just second hand versions on eBay for 10 times there original RRP.
