Going into this I assumed it was going to be some kind of self made Lego train specifically designed to defy gravity, but it appears to be the same Lego City train I actually own. I think that shows something about the kind of engineering that went into designing the loop, very impressive.

Thanks m8! really appreciate it! The project almost failed because I couldn't get it the way I wanted. That's why it took 6 months on and off to get it this way; no supports from the side and a sleek design working with just basic tools and limited budget. I'm so happy that it works because I was wondering, during the whole building process. No one wants to work for 6 months on a project to find out it just doesn't work :D

The first modern roller-coaster to do a vertical loop is the Revolucion (originally called The Great American Revolution as it opened in 1976) at Magic Mountain in Southern California. It uses a circular loop instead of the more modern sinusoidal loop design and because of that, has to put extra speed into the train to make it all the way around. When you encounter the first part of the loop, you're really pressed into your seat -- it's not comfortable and puts a lot of stress on the train; that's why the sinusoidal loop is better as it is a more gradual change to a tighter radius at the top instead of a perfect circle.

She was the one with the initial idea of letting it run down the stairs. I added the looping idea to it. She thought it was the ultimate addition and supported me till the end while building. Now she regrets... ;) No just kiddin.. She loves it!

Really cool, but the best part by far was the second or so of hang time in the final clip, as all audio seemed to be put on pause before the train smashed back down to earth! Great contrast from the relative success of the other clips! ;) Nice +1

How you calculated the minimum radius size of the loop and speed to figure out how to make the train go around? Sorry, haha, should've been more clear before! ;D

Umm, Who? Ha! no problem m8! I'm not very good with math but after long searching trough the abracadabra I found a somewhat simpler formula: Height of the ramp must be greater than 2.7 x the diameter of the looping. So for this 1.8 meter diameter I needed a height of 4.86 meter + some extra for friction and win resistance. But that was just the math... I eventually found out if it worked after it was fully completed. During the whole build I kept wondering... :)

At first, I thought this was a terrible way to treat a model train. But then I realized that individual LEGO bricks are practically indestructible. If one or two LEGOs break, no big loss. Just re-build it and you're good as new again :-)
