These battles are always super cool as they're almost never depicted by most MOC makers. The Soviet Union's battle with Finland is def one of the more forgotten parts of WW2
Yeah, it’s kinda sad. The Finnish holding out for a long time basically made Hitler think that the USSR was weak, which also contributed to Hitler rerouting the 6th army and losing Stalingrad
That is amazing that the builder has met Simo Häyhä. For anyone unfamiliar, Simo Häyhä was a Finnish sniper during the Winter War who is credited with more kills than any other sniper in history. He killed over 500 Russians using nothing but an iron sight. Later in the war, he was shot in the face with an exploding bullet, blowing his jaw off, but ultimately survived and had his face reconstructed.
As a Finnish military history enthusiast, I appreciate that there are lot of accurate details. - Finns have hopelessly mixed clothing and armament. - Trenches, bunkers, tank barriers and barbed wire barriers are cool. Bunker have even the air went! - No ski troops in Summa. - Soviet tanks are grouping like they did in the late Winter War. If I were to criticize something, the artillery would have pulverized the trees and the snow should be blackened. But those are quite minor details, I have seen big budget TV documentaries with more historical errors.
Kiitos! I have watched every one of your videos. We love them. I have the Russian map created for this December 17th attack on sk5 and sk6. The chief of staff of the 138th rifle corps reported to 50th Rifle corp that the Finn’s were retreating and they cancelled the preparatory artillery barrage. The following days assaults saw heavy artillery barrages.
@@brickgunner8056 It seems that a Lego builder has a better grasp of the historical details than a military-youtuber! :😀 I was genuinely surprised when I saw what you have build. If you need any of my videos source materials please let me know.
I could reach out we were watching your suurisaari video thinking about that or Tornio for the Lappland war? Make sure to check out our other MOC with the armored train from Parola 😁
@@brickgunner8056 I think either Suursaari battle (1942 or 1944) would be cool Lego-build! Please send me some email. You can find my address from my profile or website (RU-vid don't like links or emails in comments).
Fun fact: in the winter war there was a legendary sniper named Simo häyhä A.k.a. the white death He also had a sniper rifle without a scope because scopes give a Glint in the sunlight
The Battle of Summa was fought between the Soviet Union and Finland, in two phases, first in December 1939 and then in February 1940. It was part of the Winter War and was fought near the village of Summa along the main road leading from Leningrad to Viipuri.
Great MOC and a great piece of history, but as a russian speaker it was killing me how he said Budyonovka. Budyonov was a Soviet military leader who popularized those pointy hats.
@@brickgunner8056 I am guessing you didn't hear that from a russian speaker. It's ok, I don't know a lick of Finnish, so you are already ahead of me. 😀
As an American with Finnish ancestors, I have always thought this side of the war was actually cooler, and more interesting than the other parts of World War Two.
Does anyone know where you can get the leg pieces that are kind of crouched with one leg turned outward and the arms that are bent at right angles with an elbow kind of?
The winter War is a topic about which nothing much is being said. But to be honest, this war is more likely to be lost by the Soviet Union. After all, there are more dead on the side of the Soviet Union than in Finland.
