Leh Palace is one of the prime attractions of Leh City. It is located on a hilltop and gives a panoramic view of the entire Leh town.
The palace was built in the year 1600 and used to be the residence of the royal family of Ladakh until the mid-19th century. After the Dogra forces of Jammu took over Leh City the royal family shifted from Leh Palace to Stok Palace.
The palace remained abandoned for a long time after that and it was almost in ruins. The work to restore the palace is underway and has been completed to a large extent. The Royal family does not live there anymore but it serves as one of the prime tourist attractions of the Leh City
