When he refers to the gradient is he meaning the slope on the tangent line at that point? Is it just another word for slope?

Yes, gradient is another word for slope.

I'm not mathematic student. However, just because of your way of teaching, I have started watching your videos. And now, I love to learn math as well.😅

It's confusing that J is at point -1, 0, but the point is in a positive quadrant

How did he get dy/dx =2x-4x^3
@matemaatika-math
@matemaatika-math 2 года назад
The derivative of x^2 by x is 2x and the derivative of -x^4 by x is -4x^3.

2:30 you say you cant put dy/dx equal to something, it needs a function. But you make it equal to 2x here.

Kuznetsov Maths In the notation dy/dx, y is the function x^2 + x^4. The dy/dx explicitly references the function being differentiated. If he used the notation d/dx instead, he’d have to write it as d(x^2 + x^4)/dx. In both cases, the function y is on top, just in different forms. tl;dr only the d/dx notation requires a function in its numerator to work, not the dy/dx notation.
