Very well done, Ashwin! You covered the entire range of issues that would interest most Leica photographers. Looking forward to more. I know you have experience with older Leica lenses; they would also be an interesting topic. Suggest the 50 Summicron rigid, the 50 Summicron v 4 or 5, and/or 35mm Summicron v IV.
Great review with a good amount of information. I watch a lot of photography content and reviews, and I can tell you're clearly extremely knowledgeable. It gives me confidence and I think it adds credibility to the review. I was actually researching this lens for E-mount, I'm not quite in the market for a Leica yet. Good luck with the channel, you've earned my sub.
Thank you for such kind words. I have been thinking about and writing about Leica, as well as shooting, for nearly 2 decades now, so I hope to bring some of that knowledge to this channel.
Hey man, just wanted to say how much I love your review of this lens. This is my all time favorite lens. You really do a much better job than most reviewers on youtube. Congrats. Looking forward to other lenses and gear you’re into.
Good job Ashwin. I’m a big fan of the Voigtlander lenses. Leica lenses have now gotten to be too expensive for this guy. 😀 Love the image quality and look I get from mine. Keep the reviews coming.
I have two Voigtlander Sony e-mount lenses, so I was a fan before I bought a Leica. I love my Voigtlanders, so when I got a used M10, the Voigtlander 50 1.2 Nokton was an easy choice for me.
Ashwin, well done. Was this filmed at 50-60fps? I like the look and feel of this style you’re going with. It works. I think it’s cool to review other lenses that aren’t Leica brand but provide the results many of us want (and sometimes NEED). Of course you have another subscriber. Lastly, the length was just enough and you didn’t appear rushed.
It was filmed at 60 FPS, and thank you!I think Voigtlander now does finally provide the results that M users with discerning tastes & exacting standards would want. And thank you for subscribing!!!
Hello guy, I think you’ll find the right words for these incredible lens. this lens is in my portfolio, very important for my picture with the new Nikon Z system.
Funny. APO should improve color but this looks like any other voigtländer lens color wise. They have a unique look to them and this one has it, too. Sharpness might be among the best but I would get the Leica lens instead. Alsomfunny that reviewers always praise the build quality but they have new lenses in hand. A reasonable review would be after 10 years or so. Then you can really judge if build is good or not so good. 10 years is nothing for a Leica lens but I have seen lots of voigtländer lenses that became loose after 5 or 6 years of usage.
Correct. That is a benefit in favor of the Summicron. This lens focuses down to 0.5 M (20 inches). The EVF or rear screen must be used for both lenses to focus until 0.7m focus distance is achieved, at which point RF coupling clicks in.
I agree it’s better. How so do you feel? The APO is much bigger , doesn’t focus as close, and vignettes more . Beyond that, the differences are minimal from what I can tell, but if those differences are critical for you, then of course yes
As someone who's shot Leica for 20 years, I would disagree. For me, it's the experience of the rangefinder that makes the M system. it used to be that Leica lkenses offered unique imaging properties, but I would challenge the assumption via blind imaging test, say between this and the Noctilux or the APO lanthar 50 and the 50 APO Summicron. You'd be very hard pressed to tell a difference, in my opinion. And this is said as someone who felt just like you about 5-10 years ago.
