For Viva SmartWorx TS and CS units you can access the update menu through the User menu. Under User select Tools & Utilites. Under this menu select Load Firmware, Apps. From there it is a three step process. 1. Load the appropriate language file. 2. Load firmware. 3. Load applications. All files to be loaded should be in the System directory of a Compact Flash (CF) Card.

Hi, thanks for your info.I am planning to buy a Leica TS16 and a CS20 controller for my work on construction sites, mainly for staking out points , setting forms etc but I would like to have a fair idea of the annual costs of Leica Captivate subscription before I make my purchase. Presently, I have no idea what it will cost me and I don't know whether there is a one time purchase version

It may depend on where you are. But in North America Captivate is only available as a one-time purchase. You can purchase Customer Care Programs (CCP) that include different levels of hardware and software maintenance, and extended warranties.
