LEICA M10-P | Long Term Review | 4K 

Hi Timothy, You are a 100% right about digital cameras being overwhelming. Many photographers today would have trouble shooting with a manual film camera and these are the people that do not understand Leica cameras. The M10 is a beautiful camera and very simple design and does not shoot video ha ha ha ... No AF tracking or eye / face tracking , which personally drives me crazy on my Panasonic S1/S1R! So everything is switch to single point focus and focusing is back button focusing so I do not need to change my focus settings. The TL2 is a beautiful camera, but sadly the camera was not a Leica at the heart. Have you tried a Leica Q?

@@DarrylCarey I rented the Q1 for a week. Wasn't a big fan of the 28mm lens and wasn't impressed with the macro lens. Even the Q2 with the crop factor just doesn't cut it for me. At first I thought that I couldn't handle the manual focusing but then I saw all of the photos I shot for 15 years with a film camera. I certainly do understand how to photograph. My main subjects are street, portrait and macro. No offense to anyone, but auto-focus, eye detect, image stabilization, etc. can make one feel dumb. It's too easy. There's no challenge. Just shoot as much as you want. I went to B&H in NYC and played with the M10-P. I also played with the a used M Monochrome. Amazing. The 246 would be my second camera, but I need to afford my first. I'm currently looking for a used M10-P, and have found a couple of them from reputable sources. I looking at only 2 lenses - the 50 f/2 Summicron and the 100 mm f/2.8 APO Macro Elmarit-R with an Elpro 1:2-1:1 adapter. The 100 could be used for portraits as well. I've done so much research and watched so many videos - Thorsten Overgaard, Steve Huff photo, Jono Slack, Reid Reviews, Kai W, Three Blind Men & Elephant, Ken Rockwell, and you. I've also looked at other cameras - Fuji, Sony, Nikon etc. As soon as I see the menu of options, it's an immediate No. I know you stated that you would make a video as why you chose to shoot with Leica - was this video part of the answer? Thats a nice setup, something very special about the Leica Q2 with the 28mm Summilux.

Only a few months till we get the M10 Monochrom! Will be very happy with the M10 monochrom and my MP :)

Thanks Adam, a little shocked to hear the Q-P is worse than the M10-P !...The only thing that the Q2 have over the Q is the weather sealing, which would be nice as I'm working in Taiwan a lot and I think it rains there more than the UK!

Teng Vang I also have Film Leica cameras, the M10-P is a nice match, but yes I would in many years how much they will be worth

Thanks Dale, I'm looking around for a nice 2nd hand Q-P or a cheap new one :) I do miss my D850, the S1R is nice but the D850 is on another level and still is and I will always be the best DSLR ever made.

The only problem with the Q was the weather sealing, dust would get on the sensor by entering from the microphone and speaker grill. I guess that’s why they have made the weather sealing better on the Q2

The new M10 MonoChrom is 41mp and I know they have a 47mp M10 coming soon

47mp Monochrom!!!!... Yes Please :) Axel Keuchel had the problem I was worried about which is 47mp takes a lot more work and time than 24mp and to be honest shooting street photography is my way of relaxing ... ha ha ha ...Just been sent an Gnarbox 2.0 which may fix this problem. Will have to test this out with my S1R :)

Darryl Carey not only that but the more megapixels the harder it will be to nail critical focus as it will make any imperfections that much more apparent. 28-32 would be ideal for me!

The good old M9 !... Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the Q2 and 47mp, I have a Panasonic S1R and I get the same problems and that was why I was thinking about getting a Q or Q-P as my Personal camera, but its the weather sealing of the Q2 that is pushing me towards that camera :(

Yes, I understand. It‘s a pity that the Q or at least the Q-P have no weather protection. But for me the megapixel “overkill” of the Q2 would be much more the limiting factor. I am mostly shooting street and documentary photography (coming from professional journalism), and although I really like to have some weather protection in the camera I don’t shoot that often in pouring rain. I still have an Olympus OMD EM1 (the “old” model which is still an amazing camera), and although it has the “tiny” mft sensor I like to take it if the conditions are really rough. Have you thought about a Fuji? The X-E3 and the X-Pro2 have a rangefinder-esque EVF (the X-Pro even an optical one). They have a very good weather protection. But the downside could be that Fuji has no comparable lens (to the Q). Difficult question🤣😉👋.

Both the X-Pro and X100 cameras from Fuji will give you the same style of shooting as an M10, plus both the X-Pro line and X100 cameras have both optical and EVF viewfinders.

Hi Austin, the M10-P does should marks more than the M10, I think they both can get scratched, its just easy to polish out on the M10, the M10-P has a matt finish.

Hey Bailey, the X-Pro2 is a great camera and has something the M does not which is AF 😁. Leica M240 have come down in price over the last year, it a good Leica M digital to start with.

@@DarrylCarey The X-Pro2 is amazing and I love using it; there's just something about Leica cameras though, I think it's that they're actual proper rangefinders. I think I'll definitely get a Leica M for my birthday or Christmas. At least I can get cheap M mount lenses that aren't Leica made.

Not sure to laugh or cry :) 100% British, from a City called Portsmouth. Not sure if any of my subs would understand my strong Portsmouth accent... ha ha ha I guess the Aussie part is living in New Zealand for 14yrs :) I'm slowing moving towards the Q2, as I have the S1R and they both have the same sensor.

Thanks strange about the charger, never had a problem with mine, as I only really use it in the hotel to charge my batteries. What do you think of the Ryker?

@@DarrylCareyRyker maybe the best Leica carmera bag I've ever had but a little bit small. I asked Wotancraft to design 2 attachable leather bags for 0.95 & APO 90mm, Alex the owner did promise me but expect a L-size Ryker launching is another option.

@@DarrylCarey I just ordered it given the good reviews on the optics. Seems like it would hold its own against the Zeiss Distagon and the Leica Summilux. Did you get the same impression while using it though? I'm hoping I can live with the ergonomics!

Hi Daniel, I sold my M246 to get the M10. Was never happy with the feel if the 240 body, always felt uncomfortable in the hand as I would swap between the M246 and my M6. Just hoping Leica brings out a M10 Monochrom.

What do you think of the M10?

@@DarrylCarey For years, I have been using an M6 with 21mm f/1.4 Leitz, 35mm f/1.4 Zeiss, and 90mm f/2 Leitz. I really needed a Leica digital rangefinder that accepted my three lenses. In 2017, I purchased a black M10 from a Leica dealer but had to return it because it was defective. After that bad experience, I had decided against buying another. However, this year, I just happened to see an ad from a seller who was selling his chrome M10 to buy an M10R. I purchased his M10 for a decent price. Thus far, I have been very please with the M10. My biggest complaint is that the shutter speed dials of my Classic M6 and my M10 rotate in opposite directions.

Leica 28mm f/2 Summicron

Heading back in March, for Taiwan trip 53!

Hi Mark, been looking for an M10-D for a while now. Really hard to find in good condition. What lens do you shoot with?

@@DarrylCarey mostly I use the 28mm voigtlander 28mm f2 Ultron , or a 28mm f3.5 Pasoptik which is similar in size to the 28 summaron, although I've just picked up a vintage 35mm summaron f3.5 but not used it much yet

Leica Q is something very special ...

Impact comes from the photo, specifically the artists vision and how they turn that into a photograph.... Not the camera.
