I've used Leica's CCD M cameras for several years, including two M8s and one M9. Here are my recommendations for getting the most out of them in their settings and menus, as well as some minor tips.
I got me one last week, refurbished and modified by Leica from M8 to M8.2. I don’t know what it is, but this camera is already a “always in the bag”. So much joy to use. I bought her as a b/w camera in addition to my M240 and Z7, as I like to use different cameras when using 35mm film … kind of weird maybe but it’s just me … always good light!👍🏼
there’s something about the older leicas that keeps me coming back. I have another m9 now and my partner has switched to this m8. i’ve had newer cameras but they’ve never felt right.
I have one in silver coupled with a voigtlander 28mm, it is not my main camera but its a joy to use, remind me of the old days (im 59), thanks for the video.
If anyone is interested - I acquired the M8 complete with F90mm f2 Asph that used to belong to Audrey Tautou that she used in the film Chanel 5 directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet
i didn’t touch on it since I usually shoot this camera in black and white, but if you’re shooting color sensitive work you’ll want a UV/IR cut filter. otherwise, green foliage tends to shift yellow (i kinda like that look) but if you’re shooting portraits or fashion or people at all, any synthetic black fabrics will show up as purple without one. I’ve had two m8s and never had a filter, i just convert to black and white if it’s too hard to correct. it’s definitely a drawback but not one that bothers my particular use case but could be a dealbreaker for some.
My comment is NOT judgmental, but is REAL or too obvious. Do not be hypocrat. Noone is blind not to see it, ... but if I am looking at he painting, I should judge the painting, not the frame. but if the frame is more visible than painting, I feel disturbed. Think about that.
