Kai gets the chance to "get hold" of the new Leica M9-P(bit.ly/LeicaM9p..., although it's not quite as straightforward as he thinks. He gives it a very special DigitalRev TV-style unboxing of this latest incarnation of the Leica M9 digital rangefinder.

@OhMyKromi This product, like previous Leica cameras, were designed to last for decades, it's something that you'll be able to hand down to your grand-kids one day as an heirloom. The leica m9 has a full frame digital sensor without any aa filters in front of it. If Canon or Nikon were to make an equivalent camera maintaining the same body size and sensor design, then it'd cost about just as much.

I was in a Leica store, one day after the M9-P was released, and I got to hold an M9-P with the Noctilux f0.95 mounted on it, if only I could afford one... At least I had a better experience than Kai did :)

Very sharp eye you got there! I agree Contrary to what I said in a related video, I think Leica could have made the camera a bit more special and "authentic" if they would have kept the rewind lever to recock the shutter. Too bad I guess.

But for the price of the M9-P you can buy something like a Canon 1D-X which is a lot better than the M9-P (I think) and you can probably buy a Nikon which is better. What is the point of buying this camera?

@aliasangelalias Take a look at the title. It says "unboxing", not review. This is not meant to be a review. Of course I hope DigitalRev will make a review of this camera soon, but there's no reason to bash them for not reviewing it in a video that is not supposed to be a review in the first place.

You can't compare a rangefinder to an SLR. They are just different things. It's like comparing an apple to an aardvark. I suppose the reason you'd want this camera is the same as why you would want any Leica: exceptional optics on a small platform that disappears in your hand. Oh and a used, brassed and maybe even a little bent camera is always better looking than a new shiny on in the box. Always.

@donaldwolff same here. set a d60 to manual mode and you're rolling. Or spend 10 times more for an m9 which has its logo removed even though the logo is what makes it expensive LOL

The Leica M9-P is like the Porsche 911 Carrera S Black Edition. Very much the same as the standard one, except you pay a lot more for more black paint. It's meaningless but you've got to admit, it's an object of desire.
