What a marvel of engineering and manufacturing. The price is very high but I don't see how anyone will be able to match this lens in size and performance. The 0.3m close focus distance is just the cherry on top.
Peter Karbe, is simply the best! All his lens calculations are legendary and no one represents Leica in heart and soul like Peter does. Always very pleasant is the modesty for one of the living grandmasters of optics design and calculation!
Peter is a treasure; likely the greatest lens man ever. With his high standards and unmatched expertise, tell me, where does Peter buy the lenses for his own eyeglasses - that’s where I must go!!
I can't afford such a master piece unfortunately. Especially with no live view on my M262 I should buy an other M camera too ! But that is exactly the kind of lens that could make me change my 28 + 50mm combo for a single 35mm. I'm very impressed. Hats off to Peter's team.
Congrats to Leica for another wonderful lens. We can finally shoot closer without an adapter or macro lens! Hope this becomes the new standard for M lens.
Again a masterpiece from Leica, but it's not for mine type of photography. I've a Summilux 28 and 50 mm. They are perfect for my daily work. Congrax to the new baby in the family.
Technically nearly perfect and finally a modern M lens with close focus distance option useful with LiveView or EVF. But you have to pay the same as for a brand new M10-R...
Once again, just as with the introduction of the (300 Gram) 50mm APO-M Summicron, other manufactures (including the large SL version), required a much more complex and therefore BULKY optic (the 1,030 Gram Zeiss Otus) in order to ATTEMPT to match the performance of these close-to-unbelievable tiny jewel M lenses...
The edges of the lens hood is easily scratched by the metallic lens cap. Even the sample shown in this video is scratched 6:20. A replacement lens hood (the rectangular hood, not the cap which is already available) is still not available for purchase. Please allow customers to buy replacement hoods, and please also consider to manufacture a plastic hood cap. Thank you.
Not to disrespect all the knowledge and effort put into this lens, but the vignetting is tremendous wide open. I am not sure why then the recommendation to shoot it at its largest aperture. Yes, vignetting works sometimes, but this lens... :(
