Let me take you on a tour of the Leighton House Museum in London.
While home of Victorian artist Frederic Leighton, the museum isn’t just for fans of the painter and most people visit just to see inside the house. When you go inside this unassuming house on a residential street in Kensington you enter an amazing space with an elaborate interior design heavily influenced by the painter’s travels in the Middle East.

Thank you so much for this beautiful video that brought back wonderful memories of my first visit to England in 1999. The house looks so much better now. The Borough of Kensington & Chelsea that is responsible for the maintenance has done a great job. BTW, the large painting that can be seen at 3.40 is "The Death of Filippo Brunelleschi" one of the very few historical paintings by Leighton. Brunelleschi (1377-1446) was the architect responsible for the huge dome of Florence´s great cathedral, Santa Maria dei Fiori. Regards.

I was invited to a recital in Leighton house in the early 70's, it was amazing.

@@EnglandRover Yes it was way before the renovation so it was a bit musty and not laid out like it is today. It was still a lovely evening with piano and poetry, very Bloomsbury ! My partner at the time was being painted by Isobel Strachey, an old eccentric and we lived in Glebe Place next door to Bernard Neville. Do you know anything about that amazing house in Glebe Place build with reclamed materials ? When I visited Glebe Place to see my old home I saw this house and for the life of couldn't remember it but then read that despite it's appearance it is relatively recent. Would love to know more about it.

Oh, I'll need to re-watch my video. What have I said about it? :) Regardless of how I've described it, I think most people would want to visit Leighton House after seeing a video or photos of its interior.

@@EnglandRover Oh I'm only joking don't worry! It's just when people describe a museum etc as "secret" or "hidden" I always wonder about the people whose job it is to make sure it isn't secret or hidden. But I am only kidding 😁

I called it a hidden secret because I used to walk past here every day when I lived in London and never knew what was inside.

where in Kensington is this?
@EnglandRover

It's about a three-minute walk from the Design Museum, on Holland Park Road, just one a block back from High Street Kensington.
