Szenes from Leipzig after the U.S. forces entered Leipzig and before they gave it over to the Red Army. The U.S. 2nd Infantry Division and U.S. 69th Infantry Division fought into the city on 18 April and completed its capture after an urban combat (often house-to-house) on 19 April 1945.

Beeindruckende Bilder. Im 2.Teil sind m.E. Bilder aus anderen Städten zu sehen , die Häuser bzw Ruinensi d für Leipzig nicht typisch und einen Kaiser Friedrich Platz gab es dort nicht .

This is where my Great-Grandfather was wounded and taken out of the war. Shot by a sniper while leading his men through the city. I've always wondered what happened to the Courtesy of the 69th Infantry Division signs went, I would love to get my hands on one.

My grandfather Jimmy Kelly was a staff Sargent in the 69th infantry. Iam on here trying to find out all I could. Much respect

Very interesting, but this is not only Leipzig as already mentioned, at 01:55 we see Wiesbaden, the monument for Kaiser Friedrich at the Kaiser Friedrich Platz, the towers of the Marktkirche, around 4:00 this is Hamburg (Große Bergstraße) and at 05:00, it is again Leipzig (Völkerschlachtdenkmal as mentioned below).

Das sind nicht alles Aufnahmen aus Leipzig, ab 1,44 das ist Wiesbaden, da sind wohl Aufnahmen im Archiv falsch beschriftet.. Die Kaiser Friedrich Straße und das Denkmal gibt es noch heute in Wiesbaden.

1:10 "Das neue Rathaus" (new city council): Here the Nazi officials of Leipzig decided to barricade themselves and later took their own lives along with their families, the last german soldiers however barricaded themselves inside the "Völkerschlachtsdenkmal" (Monument to the big Napoleonic battle at 1813) seen at 5:00

I didn't realise the degree of destruction in Leipzig. Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin I knew had practically been razed to the ground, but I kind of thought Leipzig got off lightly, being much further east. Edit: Having read some of the other comments it seems this video is in parts showing other cities, so it's a bit underhand to depict this as Leipzig.

My dad served with the 661st Tank Destroyer Bn which was attached to the 69th Infantry Division.

Größtenteils wird hier aber Wiesbaden nach 1945 dargestellt (ab min 1:52). Gezeigt werden Teile des zerstörten Kurviertels und im Hintergrund ist die Marktkirche klar erkenntlich. Die Kaiser Friedrich Statue steht noch heute.

My father was in the 69th, I have many photographs of Leipzig, some of the most brutal fighting. He earned the CIB, Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal as well as others. He had nothing good to say about the Russians, rapists and murderers he said. The irony is a own a BMW made in Leipzig.

Imperial Forces actually made a pretty impressive last stand inside the Völkerschlachtdenkmal and could have caused the enemy severe casualties.
