I think the main difference between Lelouch & Light is their views on power and control. Light wants control, he wants to be God, his endstate ends with him in complete control of society. Lelouch sees control and power as a means to an end. Light wants perpetual control while Lelouch temporarily needs control to eventually liberate. I think Light has more in common with an Empire than a Rebellion. Light never challenged governments except if they went against him. Lelouch wants to end oppressive governments.

Lelouch's behavior as soon as he got power is so interesting, but the thing about him is that he's had this exact mindset for a long time, he's just waited for something to give him the ability to enact his plans. His characterization in just two episodes is so well written.

I just completed this show a few days. Thank you to everyone here that strongly recommended this. I certainly missed out on a masterpiece. Damn this show is old. Came in 2006

Fun Fact: Originally, the hero of Code Geass was going to be a talented mecha pilot, not a commander with maddening charisma and a brilliant mind. This makes sense. For those who don't know, Code Geass is not Sunrise's first mecha anime, this studio practically specializes in creating this type of anime and all its protagonists, in general terms, are exceptional pilots.

I'm so happy Kenny and Montana are loving this incredible show. The way Kenny was excited when Lelouch was doing all the chess strategies during battle and how Montana Kept saying "This is so cool". You see why we were recommending this like crazy. We recommend the best shows for you to analyse and boy you are in one heck of a ride with this show

Time to witness the most fan-favorite anime character of all time. In my opinion, he's the greatest anime character and the best protagonist in all of anime

Code Geass premiered on adult swim in 2008 and changed my life, i’ve probably watched it at least once every year since, it is an amazing story with great dialogue and characters & fucking giant robots!!! It touches on so much, from racism, nationalism, classism, all the isms!!!!

The best thing about Code Geass is that it is _NOT_ a mecha anime. It's a scifi shakespearean tragedy where people _happen_ to pilot humanoid shaped tanks sometimes.

Something I found funny about this episode is that Lelouch names the members of Ohgi's resistance with the chess nomenclature. Basically, it is the initial of the piece in question together with the number of the row where it is at the beginning of the game. He made Ohgi and Tamaki pawns while Kallen was made his queen and, oddly enough, she is the only one to keep the code name. It's crazy that Lelouch got to see Kallen's incredible talent as a pilot and the great strategic value she can bring to his battles (I wonder if he codenamed her too because he appreciated her trusting him). It shows that Lelouch is a visionary and that he considers his soldiers as chess pieces that he can use and sacrifice, although in the case of Kallen I think he recognizes that it is a valuable asset and symbolically it is a good correlation: the Queen is the most powerful piece on the board and works for both offensive and defensive tactics, that is, the defense of the king (something that Kallen demonstrated in this episode perfectly and that's all I can say without spoilers xD). Has Kenny noticed the detail of the chess notations? He seems to have a good knowledge of chess, it will be interesting to hear a player's opinion on this series (which uses chess to express the protagonist's life philosophy). In a masterful and simple way, this episode established the dynamics of the battles of this season. Will we have a Suzaku Badass counter here? I've read everywhere that this episode has the best reaction from Kenny and Montana yet and I wouldn't be surprised: it's pretty exciting. I have high expectations! I'm exciting for this reaction! 😀 By the way, I just noticed that Montana's avatar is dressed as Kallen in the intro illustration (some might say it's a Milly Ashford cosplay, but it's not true: the key is in the socks, Milly's are blue and short, Kallen's are white and long, like the ones on Montana's avatar). So Kenny and Montana are dressed as Lelouch and Kallen, students by day, rebels by night, AWESOME! I LOVE IT!

Just wait until we get to the truly insane stuff in this show 🍕

What's really interesting about this show is that it goes deep into many ideologies and views that people discuss or think about. because there are people who go through this oppression even though many of us are privileged to not experience it. This show helps us open are eyes to the real world out there and what's going on in all parts of the world

Oh trust me, you two are in for an absolutely insane ride with this show. This is by FAR my favorite anime of all time.

I really enjoyed your analysis of Suzaku in the review One big difference between Light and Lelouch at this early point in the story is that Light is mainly a solo operator, while Lelouch makes plans that involve working with other people immediately (even though he is still keeping a lot of distance from them)

Lelouch is constantly represented by the Black King. Suzaku is the White Knight. You could probably represent some other characters with various Chess pieces. Chess is pretty important in the series in that way.

I know Lelouch is the most favourite anime character in the world but my personal favourite character is Suzaku. He needs more love. Can't wait for you to see more of him in this show. This episode really showed what he's capable of

Lelouch has a lot of diabolical laughs, but the one in this episode always felt the most ecstatic to me. Lelouch has felt powerless against Britannia for so long & has wanted to fight them. Now he’s managed gone up against them & beat most of their forces (until the Lancelot shows up). It’s like he wanted to do this & now he knows he can do it.

I've been watching this show since you guys watched the pilot and so far I am absolutely loving it. The political intrigue and social commentary are very interesting and exactly what you guys like in shows. I can't wait to be able to watch more.

Fun fact: the second word in the title was originally supposed to be "Geas", pronounced "gays" (one syllable), which is a Scottish/Irish/Gaelic word for a curse that forces you to obey a specific order or instruction. Unfortunately, written Japanese isn't the most flexible language in the world. The closest Katakana can come to "Geas" is 「ギアス」, which is actually pronounced as the two-syllable word "Geass".

What I love about this show is not only is it a great companion series to Death Note because of the similarities and differences of their respective protagonists, but it also basically takes the premise of Gundam and flips it around, making the masked rival the protagonist and the pilot of the white super robot the antagonist.

This is why i put Code Geass as #1 in my top 10 anime idc its well written the VA for that time period both Dub and Sub is just so good, the story telling is for the most part on point, and its really good at invoking certain feelings within you such as anger, sadness, hopelessness, happiness, hopefulness, and excitement. I do think its the superior of the two out of it and Death Note and you'll start to see why i say that later in Season 1 and definitely towards the ending of Season 2. I am excited to see how much you guys are gonna love this series and it may even climb you guys top 10 list if not become you guys #1 also. Cant wait. 😊

The Lancelot is the first Seventh Generation Knightmare. Let's take a moment to go over the generations for context. First: Originated with the ejection cockpits. Quickly added walking legs for mobility. However, not really a weapon. Second: Two originations began developing the technology. The military and the private Ashford Foundation. Technologies improved, but no frames are known of this generation. Third: They began using Sakuradite to power the Knightmare Frames. The Ashford Foundation also developed a frame of note, but that isn't one to discuss at this time. Fourth: The first mass produced Knightmare Frame was produced, the Glasgow. These were used to invade Japan. Fifth: Further improvements were made. Notably, the Sutherland was produced as a mass production model. It's vastly improved in every metric over the Glasgow. It's also notable as it was developed with the idea of fighting other Knightmares in mind, due to the sudden rush by other countries to develop their own after the Invasion of Japan. Sixth: The Missing Generation. There are no known advancements in the technology and no known Knightmares of this generation. Though there was a sixth generation frame with a centaur design in a DS game. Seventh: The Lancelot. It has greatly increased the amount of Sakuradite, which is used throughout the machine not just for a power source. Lloyd has produced a one of a kind machine. In this episode, we saw [Q-1] piloting a fourth generation Knightmare, The Glasgow. All of the others were Sutherlands. Really makes you think how skilled [Q-1] must be to pilot the objectively worst Knightmare on the field, with one arm and no armaments, and still do as well as she did. With all that in mind, did Suzaku win because of the Knightmare? Could anyone have done so well in the Lancelot? Or was it Suzaku? How do you think he would have done in a Sutherland or Glasgow?
